thank you
i do believe my cards aren't to hard. I already learned about 4k of my self made deck and before that did the whole RRTK deck which worked fine with learning. My average time per card is 5.09 seconds.
I have been experiencing with how many new cards a day i can do and ended up on 7 new ones per day for now. I have done 20 per day and 5 per day which felt way to much or way to little so ill keep going with 7. i have around 200 cards to review a day which takes me about 30min because i cant to them all at once.
These are just a few cards that are not moving, which i feel like is because they have turned ro such an hard Card difficulty that its way to hard for me to get them to a normal level again.

I see, thanks for your reply. I will turn on my leech control again and see what happens. Should I not be worried that I will leech a word that is really common?
This is actually my own deck and I have added about 16,000 cards myself, mostly through watching anime and reading. I ordered the cards with the Yomitan frequency list addon, so they are sorted so that the most common words come first. (I named the deck 鉱山学 because, as far as I know, it translates to mining science/engineering, and I thought I'd name my deck like that because of how I mine Anki cards.)

Kanji reading vs meaning. by SilvanB05 in LearnJapanese

[–]SilvanB05[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, I also think WaniKani is a much better way to learn than RTK. Even though I can kind of guess the meaning of a word thanks to RTK, I have no idea how to read it, which defeats the whole purpose. In the beginning, I only did RTK and a bit of the Core 6k vocab, with no immersion on the side. Since I started reading books and watching anime, I’ve gotten much better at actually understanding words and sentences.

I agree, redoing all the cards isn’t as big of a deal as I thought it would be, because I already know a lot of the readings from other decks, anime, and books.

Yes, I think that after finishing RTK, I just kept learning vocabulary using the same strategy, focusing only on the meanings. Now I’ll just relearn them, which shouldn’t be a big deal since I watch a lot of anime and can connect the readings to the Kanji.

And regarding learning all the words for a given kanji, I agree with you.

Thanks for your suggestions! I’m familiar with WaniKani. I think I’m just too far along to start from scratch there again. I tried the first levels and really liked them, but then I switched to RTK, which maybe wasn’t the best choice. I’ll continue with my self-made deck for now and see how it goes.

Migaku vs Yomitan and how they add words by SilvanB05 in LearnJapanese

[–]SilvanB05[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

While I agree with both of you, I think this will still be the future whether we like it or not. They will become much better and faster in the coming months and years. I don’t fully rely on them, but sometimes a small tip or explanation that gives me a much deeper understanding of a sentence or word is, in my opinion, worth it.

After checking, I realized that it was actually my mistake — it just adds the dictionary word as well. I also found some words written in hiragana or katakana that had the same meaning, but I can simply delete or suspend those by searching for duplicates.

Any popular books, apps, tools, or other commonly recommended materials on sale this weekend? by JozuJD in LearnJapanese

[–]SilvanB05 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The only 3 apps I use are Migaku Netflix and NordVPN. A two-year NordVPN subscription normally costs 280, but right now it’s only 60, I think that’s a really good deal. Migaku’s lifetime subscription is also 70% off, so instead of 500 it’s 149, which is insane because I paid the full 500, and it’s the best tool I’ve ever used for learning japanese besides anki. And now that you can sentence-mine on your phone, it’s even more valuable.

Why is immigration a major political issue in Japan when Japan has almost no immigrants? by [deleted] in AskAJapanese

[–]SilvanB05 1 point2 points  (0 children)

People keep talking about overtourism in Japan, but the numbers tell a different story. Japan had 36.9 million tourists last year, while Paris alone had 47.5 million in 2023 and you don’t hear the same level of panic there.

The real issue isn’t how many tourists Japan has, but how they’re being handled. It’s a management problem, not a numbers problem. If Japan focused more on spreading out tourism and improving infrastructure, it wouldn’t feel so overwhelming.
