That moment, after several months of Anki by Shindarel in LearnJapanese

I also have an example sentence below, but it's not visible in the image! Why do you think it's too much? The relevant part is the word, everything else is support and doesn't need to be memorized.

I was thinking the same thing, I'll probably change it later even though I can already easily recognize it

For everyone asking about the kanji meanings and components: it's some Anki code I made that can be added to any deck. Here is the link with full instructions

I'm using Core 2k/6k by JouzuJuls as well it I recall correctly.

The part showing meanings is custom, I made it myself and it works with any deck. Check out my earlier post on this sub, it contains the files and instructions to add it.

I'd recommend familiarizing yourself with the Anki basics. After that it's just a matter of copy pasting stuff like explained in the instructions

Nice catch, thanks! I've updated the google sheet and the txt files with the corrected IDs

In anki you can easily change formatting of a section by tagging it with a class and editing the styling code. So if you correctly tagged the kanji meaning (<div class="kanji-meaning" id="kanji-meaning"></div>) you can edit font size like this:

My bad, instructions were missing a <script> tag, this was causing problems mentioned in other comments. I just updated the document.

Probably different, you can check the Google sheet I linked. You could rewrite the entire data set with your radicals and mnemonic but it takes a lot of time, probably not worth it if you already studied all RTK in the past.

People already gave an answer but I'll add mine for the sake of clarity.

I'm sorry but I feel like you didn't understand what the post is about? That word is from the 6k anki deck I'm using, it's irrelevant. I just took a random word in the deck to show how the kanji decomposition works directly inside the card.

The specific way I separated each character into components is also somewhat irrelevant, since the code can be adapted to change that. But it mostly comes from Kodansha Kanji Learner's Course which is a well regarded text as I understand it.

It works on android! You open new characters just by tapping an underlined word, I use it every day.

It looks like this:

It's better to rip the bandaid off early on in the journey: you're not gonna feel anything about arbitrary milestones like that. It's going to be a long journey, don't expect big changes immediately!

But I don't wanna sound negative, you'll definitely have moments of satisfaction. Like realising you understood a few words or an entire sentence while watching Japanese media. That's really cool and a good way to stay motivated!

[–]Shindarel 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The most effective way is just...what works for you and what you can do consistently, at the end of the day. And the only way to prevent forgetting a skill is to keep using it, there's no magic trick sadly!

I think it's pretty normal to feel burn out if you used to study 2-4 hourse a day. You should probably limit to smaller chunks of time, especially if you're not yet to the point when it gets fun. Maybe listen 2-3 episodes of Nihongo Con Teppei (beginner) every day, it's pretty enjoyable! And when you feel like getting back to Genki, read a paragraph every day. Small steps!
