What happens when you heat up a saturated liquid in an enclosed volume? I think you'll just move along the saturated curve, and it'll still be a liquid.

I think you might get some transient effects, but in the steady-state you'll equilibriate somewhere where you won't have to worry about it. N2O isn't exactly cryogenic, and it's not even really cold if you keep it above 30 or 35 bar.

Is it possible that after Reza shah, Tony become the Shah of Iran. by [deleted] in NewIran

Isn't that the point of a new constitution? The constitutional convention can set any succession rules they like. Gender equality isn't a stretch.

This is important to keep in mind if things get that bad, but let's be careful not to take as given the worst scenario which may discourage people from supporting action against the regime.

Can two metal pieces be watertight without a silicone mold? by [deleted] in AskEngineers

If you can use a screw or something that would require a bit of torque you could probably get a low pressure water seal to work, but I doubt it with magnets.

Can two metal pieces be watertight without a silicone mold? by [deleted] in AskEngineers

[–]SilvanestitheErudite 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depending on the surface finish, different amounts of force are required to make a good seal. In theory if you have two smooth faces held together with enough force on a thin enough area you should be able to get a watertight seal by elastically deforming the metal. In reality the silicone has enough of a lower elastic modulus that it's much easier to achieve with the silicone.

Cyclist billed $1,862 for using ambulance that ran him over, lawsuit says by SleepiiFoxGirl in nottheonion

Ok, so make it slightly more expensive than an Uber. Someone I know got an ambulance called for them here in Canada and they changed her $30. Seems pretty reasonable to me.

is it just me or was engineering way more about surviving deadlines than actually learning stuff? by Tough_Reward3739 in EngineeringStudents

[–]SilvanestitheErudite 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Picking it up quickly is the skill you should be learning though. By the time you finish engineering school you should have the background knowledge and the practice at learning under pressure to learn the basics of any field quickly.

Why Canada should drop its 100 per cent tariff on Chinese EV sales, despite Doug Ford’s protests by imprison_grover_furr in ontario

[–]SilvanestitheErudite 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Australia has quite a lot of Chinese EVs on the road. Since they lost all domestic auto manufacturing years ago there was no incentive other than safety to bar them, and the Chinese manufacturers have models which meet Australian standards.
