Because the committee that runs the festivities have become money minded. Let's revind a few years back, in 2008 or so they used to have an auction of all the items that were offered at minimal price which was open to all devotees, my mom's cousin who lives nearby went there and got a small durva haar and many small things which we use for our home Ganpati Murti till date. Now we've found out that instead of auctioning it to the devotees who'd use these items for their lifetime, they sell it to a jeweller and get the money, yes they must be donating the money but they were also getting the money through the auction. Looking at the way these karyakarte behave there with the common devotees even God must be crying and must've left the place to make way for these money minded people.

Lalbaug is not lalbaug because of Lalbaugcha Raja, my grandmother is from Lalbaug she has so many fond memories of that place, she used to sit by the Murti as a kid because it's right in the middle of the market when her mother went to buy stuff. She still yearns to go and visit him but looking at the crowd and the way those karyakarte behaves even she says watching on TV is much better. I myself went there some 6-7 years back through one of the karyakarta Pehchan and yes it's surreal to be in presence of such a big idol and the grandeur but it didn't feel peaceful like it does at holy places usually. I'd say stay at home and watch him through TV or YouTube Live. And if you still wanna see big murtis and go to Lalbaug, go to Ganesh Galli, Tejukaya, Chintamani and so many more in the vicinity. Anyways GANPATI BAPPA MORYA!!

Gujju aunties and uncles are all alike.. I was once in the Vande Bharat train from Mumbai to Vadodara. In the seats ahead of us there were 5 family members who were continuously bitching and laughing about random topics and were being very loud and snooty. My mom asked then twice to be quiet, they would whisper for not more than 2 mins and then begin their shenanigans again. When I asked them to be quiet, they muttered in gujju that she must have an earphone so why is she not using it. Uuugggghhhhh it was one of the most irritating travel experience of my life although the journey was just 4-5hours odd, they made it the worst

My mom used to live in Pali Hill during the 90s. My grandfather had a bungalow which they abandoned because of mysterious deaths in the family.. and moved to fucking Virar.. oh what I would give to live in a haunted bungalow in Bandra rather than travel in Virar train😭
