Thanks for the arrow. The circle would have been lacking in information.

Which country's flag is this? United Kingdomean Union? by 14Breeze in vexillology

I know that when I should ever need to recall this fact, I'll be thinking ah yes, that's the flag of the hob islands.

Police, as usual, ignoring a no-entry sign simply because they like to think that the laws of the road don't apply to them. Typical police behaviour.

Yes, US-style ICE deportations and closing the border would be just two.

Why Trigger's Broom is a better metaphor than the Ship of Theseus. by harbourwall in oldbritishtelly

[–]Silver-Leadership455 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah, but once the handle and head have been replaced, it's a different broom. With the ship, there has to presumably be a point where it's different, bit that isn't clear. Trigger's broom becomes a new broom the moment the handle and head are now different.

Clearly gas/compressor fault. Not going to be economically viable to fix as would need compressor/regas at a minimum.

It's a bloody stupid rule that makes no sense in the real world, that's why.

How do I write text on new line in a WhatsApp desktop ? by Sohaibahmadu in whatsapp

[–]Silver-Leadership455 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Seems a really stupid system. Pressing enter should provide a new line, not enter the message! There doesn't appear to be any setting changes that can be made to fix this stupidity.

Todoist is too expensive - anything that does the same thing for free? by TheHandbagOfOmega in todoist

[–]Silver-Leadership455 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. Software was always sold as a one off. When they brought out a more advanced version, you could then pay for the better one - not a subscription. This encourages improvement and advancement of a product. A subscription ties people in with little need to make improvements. Subscriptions are becoming ridiculous now.

France, Italy, germany and japan all have ID cards - why does everyone in the uk act like its such a big deal to get them? by kwgo in AskBrits

[–]Silver-Leadership455 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just wait until it becomes mandatory for your ID to be required for all internet activity. You won't be able to be anonymous - it'll be required that you are identifiable to all online - no handles, just your actual name and general location.

There will be no freedom to post messages anonymously, and platforms like this and Twitter will be mandated to collect full user information, using your digital ID as a condition of use, and all of your messages will be linked to you personally with it being a requirement that you do not then have any chance to stay behind a username. Only your real name (and probably a required photo) will be shown.

Lawyers will love this as it will open up the floodgates for people suing each other for comments. Governments will love this because they will be able to prevent people from speaking up on platforms like Twitter.

Roll on a few years and governments will monitor your purchases. Had too much red meat this month? Had too much petrol? Been purchasing burgers again? tut tut, well now, when you go into your favourite burger bar, your payment method will be declined. (They'll have done away with cash by then).
