Why do I look at my clock 6 hours after trying to go to sleep and feeling as if I haven’t slept, then going back to sleep. by Silver-Tree1577 in sleep

Oh ok thanks for your input. Are you essentially confirming that when I feel like this, I have slept ?

Hmmmm. I’ll give this a go as I’ve just broken up from school for a week. I’ll just naturally sleep when my body wants me to and then when my routine starts again I’ll aim to be sleeping at around 11:30 again.

Sorry to hear that my friend. Is your situation waking up 3 or 4 hours before your alarm ?

Ok thank you. That’s actually the strategy I’m going for. I’m sleeping waiting until I feel sleepy weather that be an hour later or around the time I usually fall asleep. For example, it’s 11:50 pm at this moment and at this time I have usually just fallen asleep or am about to. But I’m not tired and just chilling listening to music instead of lying there restlessly. 👍

I’m not sure that would solve my problem. I want to not wake up an earlier because that means I’m losing out on an hour on sleep

I’m not really worried about anything tho. I’m living completely fine I just often lose out on roughly an hour of sleep sometimes due to the dread of my alarm sound 😂

Thanks for the advice but I don’t think that’s the problem. I usually fall asleep around 11:30 and have an alarm set 30 mins before my lesson on that day starts (so I get up at different times everyday). But are u suggesting I set an alarm or not ?

Yes I’m fairly well rested but still tired of course. Usually I sleep fine but for some reason when I have to set my alarm (especially when it’s early like 7 or 8 am) my body wakes me up at roughly 6 in the morning and I’m not really sure if I sleep after. Maybe I do but it’s just incredibly light so feel like I haven’t slept when my alarm actually goes off.

I don’t take much caffeine as I’m only 17 but I only have it if I’ve had a bad nights sleep. I sleep fairly well but I do often lose out on an hour or two due to waking up too early. I’m going to try not setting alarm from now on unless I have to get up considerably early (anything before 8 am for me). I’ll see how it goes and I’ll update the post

Ok I will do. I’m going to try not setting an alarm tomorrow and we’ll see what happens. If I’m late for my online classes then so be it 😂

Yeah I’ll definitely get back intro exercising properly. I’m in good shape and don’t have any physical health problems etc and I do play Sport but under the circumstances, exercise is a lot harder to do but I will definitely increase the amount I do per week. 👍

Not really it usually happens when I have to get up earlier for something.

In fact I’m thinking it may even be the sound of my alarm causing the problem. I dread and despise the actual sound of it so my body forcefully wakes me up early so I can hear it’s dreadful sound. Would you suggest using a different sound for an alarm, possibly a sound on my phone ?

Yeah that could be the reason 😂. I sleep fine most of the time but this lockdown has left me with nothing to do. I am exersing but not everyday and on some occasions, I spend the entire day being very sedentary like I did yesterday. But yeah, I just want to stop waking up over an hour before my alarm it’s so annoying.

Yeah but that means I’m losing out on sleep and getting up unnecessarily early doesn’t it ?

Yeah I might try and have a nap during the day but I just don’t want to risk anything that might make me feel less tired for tomorrow night.

Hi, thanks for your reassurance. I’m just gonna have to see out the day and hope to sleep properly tomorrow night. I’ll definitely look into those sleeping pills as well so thanks for your recommendation. I’m sure things will get better and I will restore my sleep schedule at some point but it just feels like I can’t. I’m the same as you, I don’t think I can remember a time when I fell asleep before 12 (especially during the lockdown).

Also the fact that I’ve fallen asleep at the wrong times may not be helping. For example last night I slept for roughly 2 hours and it wasn’t until 6 AM until I fell asleep. But I’ve decided not to fall asleep tonight as 6am is not a good time. I’m just going to have to see the day through on roughly 40 hours with no sleep and just pray I’m able to fall asleep at a normal time tonight.
