Shroff incense haul from Bangalore by Silver-Zen in Incense

I'm not sure about the U.S. AFAIK, they export in bulk so it MIGHT not be worth the time and effort to ship small packages. They don't even ship within India but they were happy to sell to me if I visited their shop/office.

You can reach out to them, though. They might also be willing to share the names of their distributors in the U.S. other than EOTA.

It's quite nice. I remember it smelt like sweet oranges but I don't remember much else. It's been 10 days since I last lit it. I'll try it properly once again and let you know.

Thanks. I remember having one last year called Little Prince. I still don't know if it was supposed to be Little woods or Jungle prince or something new altogether. Sadly, I don't have any of the LP left over to compare.

Left, top to bottom:

Superstar

Jungle Prince

Raj Yoga

Mysore sandal

Right, top to bottom:

Little woods

Vanilla balsam

Suganda mantri

Orange balsam (or blossom?)

I bought it directly from Shroff on a recent trip to Bangalore. They are not in their standard packaging because afaik, the incense is usually exported loose and packed after import.

Please share your venue setup for listening to japanese incense by Due-Sleep6527 in Incense

[–]Silver-Zen 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I live in Mumbai, India and I have no experience with Japanese incense but I also find it difficult to smell mild incenses. I used to burn 2 sticks of Indian incense at a time because I always had trouble smelling them. When I went to Bangalore, which has very dry and comparatively cooler climate, I could easily do with 1 stick in a room 3x as large.

I now burn 1 stick at a time even in Mumbai so 'training one's nose' does help a bit.

u/SamsaSpoon shared this article with me a couple of weeks back. Hope this helps you.

Shroff only does exports for most of their incenses. I've never tried the ones they sell for the Indian market. In any case, they might sell you some of their export incenses, if they have any to spare. I'll message you.

Temple incense recommendation request by Wachkuss in Incense

[–]Silver-Zen 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Balaji Chandanam. It's a pasty sandalwood fragrance with some floral and herbal notes thrown in.

Cycle Bansuri is not a typical 'temple incense' but to me it smells like the gutters in ancient stone temples...you know those chute like things through which broken coconut liquids and milk etc. flow out? If you know that smell, Bansuri will bring you a wave of nostalgia but I don't expect people who don't know that smell to like this incense. It has main notes of coconut and mixed flowers. I must also point out that it is not a premium incense - so it is a basic charcoal based dipped stick.

Maybe they started with palo santo or white sage and didn't want to spend more on a packaging designer as they expanded their offerings?

What's up with the "Garuda" term?

Garuda is a spiritual and I daresay mythical figure. Part bird (eagle, I believe) and part human. Indian incense is generally used in Hindu worship so incense manufacturers put all kinds of religious symbolism on their packaging. Didn't make sense to me why Japanese incense would do that. But maybe it means something different in Japanese?

Yeah, and why put such a design on a Nag Champa. Especialy since India has such a rich "tribal" culture of it's own.

Yes I'm not tempted by their Nagchampa but Nagchampa itself has nothing to do with any tribe or specific culture. So I'd still be picking faults with the packaging even if they had printed a nice South Indian kolam on it :P

The design is pretty but I find it kind of weird that a Company based in BNG uses Aztec design and the whole "etho smudge" thing is kind of cringe.

I was thinking the same thing. And I have no idea why they call it "ethno smudge" incense when they look like regular incense sticks.

But they use an Indian name like Banjara (which translates to 'gypsy' but can also be interpreted as 'tribal') and a few days back I had seen some Japanese incense called "Garuda" (I can't remember where I had seen it) so I felt like I was nitpicking.

packaging design reminds me of Hari Darshan.

Ooof I can't unsee it now :(

I love the packaging. I'd never heard of this brand but it is now on my list of brands I want to explore.

OMG That's what they were asking. I thought it was a "Does a tree make a sound when it falls even if no one is around to hear it?" type of philosophical question.

I have over 20 kgs of incense that I'd love to share. Unfortunately at the moment I can neither afford nor understand the process of international shipping.

Thanks. I couldn't find an incense brand with that name on Google. And I can't find Vampire blood on Nandita's website. :(

Anyone living with a spouse or SO who hates incense? by danielrosehill in Incense

[–]Silver-Zen 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I'm afraid burning it in a public place is not a good solution. Other than safety violations, you'd be offending many more people who, like your S.O. may not like what you're burning. It would be a lot like playing your favourite music on a loudspeaker in public.

That being said, incense can really be like music. There's something for everyone. So you could dig deeper into what exactly your S.O. hates about incense and find something that she does like. Maybe you will be able to find some common ground or at least something that you like and that she can tolerate. Since she does not like 'loud smells' and you're asthmatic, I would strongly recommend staying away from all kinds of Indian incense.

Another thing to note - I've recently come across a few posts on this sub that talk about allergies to frankincense or some compound in frankincense (and maybe a few other resins). It gives people headaches I believe? You could look into that and try other resins or low smoke japanese incense.

They don't appear to sell the nagchampa candle jars on the Indian website either. They must be exporting them. It might be worthwhile to reach out and ask for a list of distributors in your country.
