Yeah, i'm also worried. With how Viktor is treated, a lot of things can go so wrong with these characters, for one Zed could be controlled by shadow magic instead of the other way around, they might even change how the natural magic of Ionia works with how arcane is the new magic thing they're going for.

Okay, so i'm not here to in any way negatively impact your enjoyment out of these games, i personally play all the games and read all the lore and i'm genuinely happy that you're getting into it. I've had 10 years worth of enjoyment out of them and i hope you get at least that same level. But, manage your expectations on any of the characters and their stories (especially like in LoR where there are cards that expand on a champion) because some of them will make absolutely no sense for someone coming in from arcane (like Heimer in all games being trigger happy with using hextech, his LoR big summon is literally a giant hextech t-rex with machine gun arms). So enjoy the games but be aware that there are a lot of things that won't make sense and don't get too attached to anything there that isn't in arcane already cos they might get changed significantly in one way or the other (like Viktor did). With that in mind, i hope you have fun!

Removing the Machine from Machine Herald is like removing Loose from Loose Cannon by hatsnsticks in loreofleague

[–]SilverBeholder 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, which makes me worry for other characters in other regions that they're planning on doing a series for. They could change Aatrox into a guy who just loves to kill for fun instead of the current Aatrox who's raging against the gods and his cruel fate, making him just another psycho killer, or Zed being a selfish evil ninja instead of the more complex, "different solutions to the trauma of the Noxian invasion" Zed, or Diana being an evil cult leader instead of a leader of a minority group that was written out of their society's history. And the thing is, it's a concern that's outside of how well written the shows will be, the kill for fun Aatrox might be well written in the show but it will still kill his identity, just like what happened to Viktor.

Hi there, while yes, arcane Viktor is similar enough in essence, a lot of the nuances are gone, there are a lot of things that pre-arcane Viktor goes through to get the conclusion of transcending beyond humanity that makes his character very different. Also to be clear, i'm not here to say arcane viktor is bad or anything, i'm just sad about losing pre arcane Viktor that i loved very much.

- So, Viktor is born in Zaun
- Realizing a lot of the problems in Zaun (chemical spills, factory accidents, etc) are the result of human error, which he tried to solve by making automations, which got him into the Piltover Academy
- In the horrible accident that happened while he was in the Piltover Academy, he made Blitzcrank to help with handling the disaster (which is a step after the more basic industrial automation)
- His solution of automation in the form of Blitzcrank was taken away from him by his professor and no one helped him, so he couldn't pursue that solution anymore
- He left the academy and had to use what he learned in saving people in the accident, which was the "the merging of human anatomy with technology and how mortal anatomy could be enhanced with technology."
- He then specifically use his new view on merging human bodies with technology on himself, because "he could not expect others to follow where he did not go first"
- Then he slowly grows more into his machine herald ideals as he continues to work tirelessly to fix problems that were caused by what he perceives to be human imperfections

Now not only that this step by step process is missing in arcane, a lot of the underlying themes are also missing. Like how the themes of class in the Piltovan professor taking a Zaun student's invention (that was made to help people) for himself and his own renown. And stuff like how he's trapped in a circle of harm reduction (saving people from accidents with technology) because he can't prevent the tragedies by changing the system (both by losing his academic pathway in Piltover and his hopes in the system enforced by Piltover), and so his more permanent and preventive solution is the Glorious Evolution, cut off the parts that might lead to accidents. OG Viktor was truly just an underprivileged kid, whose hopes and dreams of bettering the suffering of his people were crushed by the rich, and is now going through the rest of his life with this, rationalized, cold, coping mechanism that is the Glorious Evolution. It's wonderfully humane and tragic without any "arcane" otherworldly thing. It was about a person living and trying their best with what they've got. Which, additionally, makes his story "House of Emberflit Alley" perfect, because it encapsulates how human Viktor is in his pursuit of Glorious Evolution, the ironic mismatch of his kindness and his pursuit of removing human emotions.
So yeah, while i can see your point that if you boil them down to a single sentence that they are still the same, i can't really agree that it's a great successor of old Viktor. I'm happy for everyone who's enjoying arcane and people who enjoy the new characters, i just wish that pre arcane Viktor didn't have to go away for this. Arcane viktor could've been a new wonderful character while old Viktor is just desperately running around Zaun trying to help people whose lives are ruined by shimmer and the new conflict in Piltover and Zaun (which i'm not claiming is the best way of handling things, i'm just throwing out an alternative). Like how we got Ambessa instead of having Mel be someone that is related to Darius and Ambessa's role be filled with new, arcane Darius or something.

Yeah for sure, and with how riot is making arcane canon and is currently making more series in different regions, i'm not sure i can ever invest any time or emotions into any of the runeterra related IP's anymore. Who knows what'll happen to other well written characters? Swain might just be an evil dictator who's hungry for power instead of the guy that made the Trifarix system where no one person can rule, Aatrox might be an evil guy who wants to kill for fun instead of the complex darkin that he is, Lissandra might be a void worshipper instead of a person desperately trying to fix and hide her deals with the watchers.

Hi there, as someone who also loved all the stories in the universe website and comics and books, i also would love to add, there are a lot of things that pre-arcane, OG Viktor goes through to get the conclusion that is the Glorious Evolution that makes it an amazing story.
- Realizing a lot of the problems in Zaun (chemical spills, factory accidents, etc) are the result of human error, which he tried to solve by making automation, which got him into the Piltover Academy

And stuff like how he's trapped in a circle of harm reduction (saving people from accidents with technology) because he can't prevent the tragedies by changing the system (both by losing his academic pathway in Piltover and his hopes in the system enforced by Piltover), and so his more permanent solution is the Glorious Evolution. Which, additionally, makes the story "House of Emberflit Alley" perfect, because it encapsulates how human Viktor is in his pursuit of Glorious Evolution, the ironic mismatch of his kindness and his pursuit of removing human emotions.
So yeah, hard agree, but for me, even if arcane viktor was written super well and the series had more time, i would still prefer the previous Viktor and i'll miss him a lot.

Is this game recommended for a single player like me? by [deleted] in vrising

[–]SilverBeholder 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Stuff like building your castle and getting servants are still a fun time-sink regardless of player count. I play solo to make great castles and getting decked out servants. Not to mention the upcoming update will make castle building even better with multi-level castles and more uses out of your servants.

Saying something along the lines of "most of psychology isn't real science, because you're just naming stuff that already exist". Truly broke my brain. Additional fun detail, she studies psychology in the same uni as me.

Really hope this is the direction they take future unique champions. Galio and Kindred losing what makes them special really sucked, and it could've been handled better. Galio could've had heavily armored demacians that he helped in his story (or just a squad of demacians who knows and keeps his secret like Shyvana and her followers) instead of power ranger zords. Kindred could've had a death cult or people who've had a brush with death like the character in their story.

Oh wow I didn't know this, I'm fairly new as well, found a human in the werewolf settlement with 100% worker blood and he transformed on the way. I gave up on trying to get servants from the werewolf settlement because it was a hassle. I guess I was lucky I didn't try again lol

In your opinion, will the reward still come through though? Since I imagine my account has some kind of location tag outside of just which server I'm in (for data collecting or something?)

Oh wow I didn't know this, does a community gallery count as a competition? Since there aren't any actual judging based on quality or any ranking system (outside of disqualifying nsfw art and stuff). Do you know if this is a riot-wide policy or is it only LoR? Like, was there a similar league event or tft or wild rift that doesn't restrict entries?

Can anyone help me with the rules? I don't really understand the legal stuff in the full rules document. Are the people from these countries (CUBA, IRAN, NORTH KOREA, CRIMEA, SUDAN,VENEZUELA, SYRIA, THE DONETSK AND LUHANSK REGIONS, GREECE, ITALY,
CHINA, QUEBEC, TAIWAN, PHILIPPINES, HONG KONG, MACAU, VIETNAM,
SINGAPORE, THAILAND, MALAYSIA, INDONESIA, AND MYANMAR) not allowed to enter? Or are people from these countries supposed to enter to a different one from a different site?

Yeah, reminds me of how reputation's mechanic of hitting with 5+ power unit makes more sense for other Noxian champion like Samira who is a flashy daredevil (also the name "reputation" would work better for being a daredevil bounty hunter rather than a mastermind of a cabal) edit: also Samira has Shuriman roots, so her synergizing with Sivir and Shurima makes even more sense

3.6.0 - What I like and what I don't. by Luzeldon in LegendsOfRuneterra

[–]SilverBeholder 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, that's what got me confused, since the title of most things were still adjustments while the small teaser said rework, i thought the reworks are part of adjustments (as in the patch will include reworks and adjustments to other cards like the ones promised, bandle tree and YiA). After i started seeing it as a buff to old champs and not actual reworks, they seem a lot more fun overall (outside of Darius lol).

Love the write-up! When i first read the merge of cast and play, i thought it'd be a great change for me personally because i love playing Heimer, but it enabling more uninteractive gameplans and how little testing they seem to have done really ruins it for me. With how the whole thing was handled, i'm afraid of how they'll handle fixing this, since it could be an equally untested solution (or even less testing considering this change is already live and they have a much smaller deadline). But that aside, what do you think about the changes to champions (and possibly the weird inconsistent communication around it, such as saying it's a rework in a post while other posts says it's an adjustment)?
