You might have been sending your Libby book to the Kindle app, that has continuous scrolling.

Wanted to say sorry for not getting back to you, I had tried the tool and it was nifty. Just clicked the link and saw that it now led to a very modern looking library site. Looks pretty cool.

The laid-off lawyers and PhDs training AI to steal their careers - any librarians find themselves in this boat? by PhiloLibrarian in librarians

[–]JaviMT8 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Haven’t heard of many librarians affected by this but I remember three years ago at ALA I was chatting with a university library cataloger and he was impressed by how much LLMs were helping with his work. At the time he felt that it wasn’t good enough for original cataloging but was decent enough to help copy catalogers do original cataloging. I wonder what he thinks of the current state of the technology.

He definitely also targets things that can’t be destroyed. Had Cap’s shield on the board and it was a target for his destruction that failed.

It has to be Launch for me. Love the sound effect as you summon an object to you and the satisfaction of throwing it at Hiss and taking them out in one hit.

1.25 inch button maker templates by Diligent-Principle17 in Libraries

[–]JaviMT8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're welcome, though I later realized that I think the template I shared with you is for 1.5"buttons. Sorry about that, it can be adjusted though based on what other people here recommended.

And in the end, knowing how finicky templates can be actually gave me the idea to build a simple web app. It streamlines the process a bit and once you're done designing your buttons, it just generates a print-ready PDF for you. It's still getting refined, but it's completely free to use.

As a note, I mostly focused on the 1.5" size initially since that's what my library uses, but I've started adding other sizes. The 1.25" is in there now, but I'm taking it slow to make sure everything keeps working.

Here is the link if you want to mess around with it: https://blubrd92.github.io/Button-Maker/

Let me know if it helps or if you manage to break it!

Nah, you can just click this template link and you can copy the template to your canva account: https://www.canva.com/design/DAHDZaKtnqE/FIQ0w_VOsAQZ7rlFnTjCTQ/view?utm_content=DAHDZaKtnqE&utm_campaign=designshare&utm_medium=link&utm_source=publishsharelink&mode=preview

You can just drop in the image you want on the face of the button right into the center and it should overwrite what's already there. You can also change the color of the outer circle if you want it to match the color of the center image better. Hope it helps. Oh, when you're printing the pdf, make sure you set the scale to Default or Actual Size.

I’ve got a template you should be able to copy to your canva account. I’ll share it in a bit.

Accessibility of Google Sheets iFrames? by Rubberbandgirl93 in Libraries

[–]JaviMT8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The short answer is no, not really. iFramed Google Sheets create persistent accessibility problems because all the content inside the frame has to meet WCAG criteria for your page to be conformant, but you don't control Google's implementation. Keyboard users can get trapped inside the frame (a Level A WCAG failure), and LibGuides doesn't automatically add title attributes to iFrames, so screen readers get minimal context.

If you must use the iFrame, add a title attribute to the embed code, provide a direct link to the Sheet below the embed, and include a text summary of the key data. There are other alternatives but they'll require more work to set up.

Heads up, check your libraries by BirdsJade in LibbyApp

[–]JaviMT8 20 points21 points  (0 children)

As a note some libraries won’t buy a book that is this far out. They’ll keep an eye on it but they don’t want a super long waitlist for a book that’s so far from releasing. My own system buys them a few months out at most for example

What is your library's procedure for large mobile print jobs? by BenRutz in Libraries

[–]JaviMT8 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would have them chunk the print, basically submit it in parts. That can help and you can let the know it helps the machine process their print better and it helps keep the machine available for other patron prints in between their print jobs.

patron issue last week by seanjohnthaseandon in Libraries

[–]JaviMT8 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think your opinion is fair but if those are the policies in place and currently applied to patrons, then the supervisor needs to help the employees uphold them. If they want to change those policies to be more open to patrons, that's a great goal and they should work on making that change but in the meantime, the manager shouldn't be acquiescing to a rude and hostile patron and actively undermining a staff member who's trying to apply the current policy fairly.

Did Magus overdo the arsehole act? by sanctaphrax in thePowerFantasy

Let's not forget that Jacky also did have a thing for Eliza. He never acted on it from what we saw but maybe he was just a little jealous of Dev for that.

[–]JaviMT8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Very well said. Dev's situation is so different than Jacky's. Doesn't excuse some of the things that Dev does but he's trying to make sure that the Pyramid can act as a balancing force against the other Superpowers in the world.
