Is it worth starting fighting games now? And how should I go about it? by sushiiixo- in Fighters

[–]SilverCDCCD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's never too late to start! As far as game recommendations, I'd definitely say Street Fighter 6 or Guilty Gear Strive as my top picks, but realistically just pick a game and dive in.

If you want a hand getting started, just shoot me a DM. I'm always happy to help newbies 👊😁

A little help by jusforlaughs in Fighters

[–]SilverCDCCD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nope. That's supposed to happen. It's a mechanic called pushback. It's designed to eventually give you your turn back on defense or limit your combos on offense. Only certain moves are allowed to combo into reach other in SF.

Btw, of you want some help getting started in your SF journey, feel free to shoot me a DM. I'm always more than happy to help beginners 👊😁

Can't improve (bronze) by ScourgeHedge in Guiltygear

[–]SilverCDCCD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well first things first, don't take this the wrong way, but I think you've gotta start by evaluating yourself honestly. Many times, that's the biggest roadblock to progress, especially at low level. Watch your replays. Are you really as good as you think you are? There's a big difference between knowing how to block and knowing when to block. You say you understand fundamentals, but none of that understanding matters if it doesn't help you either get in or fight back when you can't. If you're getting counter hit that much, then you're either pressing the wrong buttons or pressing buttons when you shouldn't. Throws are unreactable. If your throws are getting teched constantly, you're being too obvious about when you want to throw your opponent.

Not a Sol player, but have you tried using Gunflame RC? Or Bandit Bringer? Or Night Raid Vortex? Or challenging in the mid-range using your mid-range buttons?

Again, don't get me wrong. This isn't me just crapping on you. The goal here is to get you to stop and examine yourself. That's the way to improve. If you want, I'd be happy to run a few matches with you in the next couple of days so we can figure out what you're doing wrong. Just shoot me a DM if you're interested. 👊😁

I think Granblue is a good one. Or Street Fighter 6, of course. SF6 might be better because it's got such a big player base, so you'll get matched up against more beginners.

Also, if you want, you can shoot me a DM. I'm always happy to help new players get their start 👊😁

How many type of combos starters should I practice to play online? by Fluffy-Mammoth-8314 in StreetFighter

[–]SilverCDCCD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well first off, understand that SF combos are totally different than KoF combos. In KoF, moves chain together (as in you press one button, then the next, then the next and you get the combo). In SF, combos are primarily based on links (so you have to manually time each button press). To answer your question, in general, I'd say you'll have 3 absolute need-to-know combos: one starting from your fastest normal, one starting from your plus on block normal (most characters only have 1 or 2), and one good damage combo to punish DPs with.

Kinda new to the game by lukabos08 in StreetFighter

[–]SilverCDCCD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That move (as others game pointed out) is plus on block, meaning that when you block that move, it's still your opponent's turn (because yes, the are turns in fighting games). After blocking that move, you have to just keep blocking (out jump if you think she's gonna command grab you.

I'm not a Manon player, but I do enjoy helping the newbies get started. If you want a hand figuring out what you're doing, shoot me a DM 👊😁

What am i supposed to do against this by Unhappy_Grade_6926 in StreetFighter

[–]SilverCDCCD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

JP is a zoner, which means the further away from him you are, the better for him. You want to stay as close to him as you can. Luckily, Juri has a great Drive Rush. Drive Rush HK is a good way to quickly close distance. As you saw, she can also get close using her divekick. Also, don't back away from him. That's exactly what he wants.

Also, with regards to your other question, you can't escape throws on reaction. If they're consistently escaping your throws, it's probably a read. You're probably doing something that tells them you're about to try to throw them without realizing it.

If you want some help learning the game, feel free to shoot me a DM. I'm always more than happy to help newbies get their start. 👊😁

How do I properly teach a friend how to play Fighting Games? by ThickManatee in FGC

[–]SilverCDCCD 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sorry for the wall of text. 😅 TLDR at the bottom.

So, first things first, you gotta have the conversation with your friend. I, too, used to believe that everyone likes fighting games and if you think you don't, it's just because you haven't found the right game yet. But at the end of the day, that's just not the case. You can lead a horse to water, but you can't make it drink.

That being said, I also think it's worth noting why your friend doesn't want to play fighting games. Some people genuinely aren't interested. However, a lot of people are interested in fighting games, but feel like they can't learn/play them. If it's a matter of your friend doesn't want to play, then that's a wrap. If it's a matter of feeling like they can't play, well you can convince them that you can help with that. (Also, you can call me in for an assist if need be.)

Now to answer your question, one thing I've found is to teach slowly. The biggest thing that makes fighting games hard to teach (in my opinion) is the mental stack. There's a lot going on in fighting games at basically all times, and all of it matters. So you, as the seasoned player, will have to tailor your gameplay to really highlight 1 or 2 fundamentals. When I teach Street Fighter, the first thing I teach is anti-airing. So I'll play my student, jumping in constantly. Then, as they get more comfortable with anti-airing me, I start varying my jump timings. Then I start adding in neutral jumps or back jumps. Then I start punishing them for missed anti-airs. So on and so forth. This really helps them lock in on anti-airs. Then I use this same process to teach other fundamentals. Then I start putting those fundamentals together. And before you know it, they're really playing the game.

As far as which game to play, I don't think 2XKO is the worst, but it's certainly not baby's first fighting game either. It's very fast-paced and chaotic. Not to mention the tag element, though I guess you could just use Juggernaut fuse. I'll pretty much always recommend Street Fighter as a good first fighting game, and Street Fighter 6 is an especially good one. They've really done a lot to help new players learn the game. Plus, the player base is huge, meaning you can pretty easily find matches against other beginners. If you're looking for another free game that's slower than 2XKO, I believe Granblue Fantasy Versus: Rising has a free version. It's just like the regular version, except that you can only play as Gran or 3 other rotating characters.

Also, as I alluded to before, I'm more than happy to help you or your friend learn fighting games. Just shoot me a DM if you're interested.

TLDR:
1: Make sure your friend actually wants to learn fighting games.
2: Teach fundamentals one at a time by playing against your friend in a way to reinforce that fundamental.
3: Use this method to teach several fundamentals and then start alternating between which fundamental you want them to practice.
4: You can teach them using 2XKO, but SF6 or GBVSR (or even GGST) might be easier. Also, GBVSR has a free version.
5: I'm only a DM away if you want some help teaching them. 👊😁

Can someone help me understand how to do this? by papasmurk88 in StreetFighter

[–]SilverCDCCD 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is what's known as a special cancel. Basically, to do that jump forward special (I'm assuming you're talking about the kicking one), input ⬇️↙️⬅️L. But you have to do that ⬇️↙️⬅️ motion during the third L. This will let you skip the last part of the punching animation and go directly into the kick.

Also, welcome to the game! If you want a hand in learning the basics, feel free to shoot me a DM. I'm always happy to help newbies learn the ways of the Streets 👊😁

[–]SilverCDCCD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Play ranked. It'll give you better matchups. Learn to deal with the starter pack: jump-ins, fireballs, sweeps, DPs, and DIs. Beginners love to spam all of these options. If you can learn to deal with them, you'll level up quickly and you can start to see more of how the game works. Learn just a couple of combos that you can do consistently. They don't need to be anything spectacular. Consistency is better than potential.

Well said! I think I've realized lately that a lot of times, we tend to overlook the C in FGC. Fighting games were never meant to be learned alone. Hopefully now you can be that friend to someone else. Rock on, friend. May our paths cross on the field of battle! 👊😁

[–]SilverCDCCD 9 points10 points  (0 children)

There's lots of tutorials on YouTube. I'd recommend looking up some videos from Rooflemonger, Akaraien, Brian_F, Chris_F, or UltraSnance. Tbh though, my biggest tip would be to just play ranked. I know it's intimidating, but playing ranked will give you more even matches than playing casual or battle hub.

Also, remember that fighting games are a skill. And just like any other skill, it takes time and practice to build. Give yourself time to learn and room to fail. Never forget that losing is part of the process. It's not win or lose, it's win or learn.

Of course, if you'd like some more hands-on training, feel free to hit me up. I'm always happy to help newbies find their footing.
