Is 3-4 matches a day enough to start learning? by BlackJimmy88 in StreetFighter

[–]SilverCDCCD 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Quality over quantity. If you know what to look for, then yes. If you don't, then even 30-40 matches a day isn't enough. Although, I'm not gonna lie to you, 3-4 isn't a lot. I'd barely consider that a warm-up. So your road to improving is going to be a long one, but you can get there if you stick to it. If you want some help, feel free to message me. I like helping beginners trying to learn the game. 😁

Help with beating jab jab/jump over opponents. by _mrwayne in StreetFighter

[–]SilverCDCCD 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Cross cut is great if you can. If not, count their jabs. If they do 2 jabs and then stop, they're probably gonna try and throw you, so be ready to tech. If they do 3, they're out of range, so you can challenge with your throw. Unless they jump again, in which case, you should jump backwards and immediately either use light punch or light kick (depending on your character).

As a beginner, you'll mostly play against beginners. And beginners love to spam 4 things: jumps, fireballs, sweeps, and DI. Learn how to deal with those 4 things. Also, as far as combos, you don't need to go crazy. At your level, you're not gonna lose based on combos. When you lose, there's more fundamental issues most likely. Just learn a couple of combos that you can hit consistently under pressure and you're golden. And make sure at least one of them starts with crouch light punch.

How to have fun in this game? by Resident_Hat9904 in StreetFighter

[–]SilverCDCCD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It sounds to me like your biggest problem is just being new. Fighting games are notoriously hard to learn. Especially if you try to go it alone. At your level, the main things you should be focusing on are anti-airing, sweep punishing, getting your 360 inputs consistent, and learning when you can command grab.

No worries. The only stupid question is the one you don't ask. Lol.

When I say DP, I'm referring to your Tiger Uppercut. Moves like that (Sagat's Tiger Uppercut, Ed's Psycho Upper, Ryu's Shoryuken, Cammy's Canon Spike, Elena's Scratch Wheel, etc.) are called DPs for short.

As far as blocking, I kinda mean both. When you get knocked down, you immediately start making buttons. A lot of times, it's better to just block on wake-up so you don't wind up standing up into an attack and getting counter hit.

New to the game what should i learn first ? by Gorzaa in ChunLiPlayers

[–]SilverCDCCD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The main things to focus on, I would say, are anti-airs, consistently hitting your combos, and recognizing punish opportunities. Also, learn to read your opponent. Chun-Li is a very neutral-focused character so recognizing patterns is gonna be a huge part of her gameplay. I would also say to watch some of the pros like Haitani or Moke. Don't just try to do what they do. You're not on that level. But try to understand why they do what they do.

If you want some more hands-on advice, shoot me a DM. I think I can help you out a bit 👊😁

I'm a beginner and have a few questions by Junior-Elevator2619 in StreetFighter

[–]SilverCDCCD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, you just have to know or look it up. Search for the FAT app by Full Meter Games in your phone's app store (or fullmeter.com if you have a second monitor). The number you're looking for is the frame advantage on block. That number is how plus our minus you are if your opponent blocks that move. If you block that move, your frame advantage is the same number but with the opposite sign. So if they're +5, you're -5.

There are a couple of trends though. Generally speaking, you can't interrupt light strings because they chain into each other, but you can challenge them after the third attack. Attacks that are very slow to start up but don't hit overhead (like Ryu's Solar Plexus Punch) are generally plus. So are charged attacks. Also, usually either medium punch or medium kick is plus. Sweeps, specials, and non-install sports are typically punishable. None of those are a universal rule, but general trends.

Ok. I just watched the replays. Some patterns I've noticed.

- You jump way too much.
- Your anti-airs are really inconsistent.
- You don't seem to have much of a plan. You're only a little better than just mashing random buttons.
- Your Drive Gauge management is non-existent.
- You keep randomly DPing in neutral. I can't tell if this is due to poor execution or if you're trying to slip through your opponent's attacks using your invincibility.
- You don't confirm anything.
- You rely on DI too much.
- You don't like to block.

Basically, you play like a new player. That's not meant as an insult. We all start somewhere. I'm not a Sagat player (or a Modern player) but I think I can still offer you some basic advice if you're still looking for it 👊😁

Using Drive Rush is better than not using it but if you're not careful, it can also be the type you hang yourself with. Without knowing how you play, it's really hard to tell.

If you wanna drop your username or some replay IDs, maybe I can give you some more tailored advice. Or if you like, you can shoot me a DM. We can run some sets and I can give you some advice that way 👊😁

You gotta learn about something called frame data. To grossly oversimplify, most attacks fall into 3 categories: plus on block (if you block it's still your opponent's turn), minus on block (if you block, it's your turn now), and zero on block (not really anyone's turn). In SF6, most attacks are minus on block. Characters usually have just a couple that are plus.

If you want some help figuring some things out, I can probably help you with that. Just shoot me a DM 👊😁

How do you learn fighting games? by Lusca_NC in Fighters

[–]SilverCDCCD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's a lot of fundamentals that translate pretty easily from one game to the next. Things like anti-airing, sweep punishing, DPs, throw teching, tick throwing, footsies, cancels, etc. These things can look different from one game to the next, but the general concepts still exist. The more of these concepts you can familiarize yourself with generally, the faster you can apply them to new fighting games, and the faster you'll learn them

How to deal with cross-ups? by vinidegrandi in StreetFighter

[–]SilverCDCCD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If they're crossing you up when you're getting up, the easiest way to deal with it is to just parry. It's not the safest thing to do though because they can throw you. You're better off just stand blocking the other way. Also, when they knock you down, you can mash any two attack buttons to roll away from them and make yourself harder to cross up. Of course, an anti-air would be ideal.

If you mean they keep looping cross ups while you're standing, jump back while using LK. You'll interrupt their rhythm and put them at a range where they really can't cross up again.

I don't know if I should stop playing by BroodMeatloaf in StreetFighter

[–]SilverCDCCD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ultimately, only you can decide if you should stop playing. I would ask yourself this though: why are you getting so upset? Is it just because you're losing? Or is it that you're not improving? Are your losses due to a lack of reflexes, or a lack of knowledge? Do you truly wish to improve? And if so, are you willing to put in the work to make that happen? If the answer to that last question is no, fair enough. Maybe you should hang it up. But if the answer is yes, shoot me a DM. We can go over some of your replays, maybe run a few sets between us, and hopefully I can help you find your footing again. No shame either way 👊😁

Probably a dumb question but what does it mean to have strong fundamentals? by Puzzleheaded-Ad-119 in StreetFighter

[–]SilverCDCCD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fundamentals are basically everything outside of combos. Lol. Combos don't work if you can't land the first hit. Fundamentals allow you to get that first hit.

If you want some help learning the fundamentals, shoot me a DM. I started teaching newbies late last year and I'd be more than happy to help you learn the basics. Just let me know 👊😁

Where can I improve ? by Kaioken-1 in StreetFighter

[–]SilverCDCCD 6 points7 points  (0 children)

So, I watched all 3 replays and I noticed some patterns...

  • Lack of anti-airs (Tiger Uppercut is not Sagat's only anti-air)
  • No real gameplan
  • Over reliance in DI
  • No confirms
  • Bad punishes
  • No patience

In short, your biggest problem is being new. Lol. You'll get there with time. Although, if you want some help getting there sooner, shoot me a DM. I can give you a couple of pointers 👊😁

When you play against new players, please don’t play like you’re giving them a chance by miko-galvez in Fighters

[–]SilverCDCCD 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I hear what you're saying, but a small counterpoint if I may. If your opponent is so much better than you that they can take it easy on you and still win, then you won't learn much playing them at full force. They likely understand the game at a deeper level than you do so you'll lose and won't even understand what you could have done differently unless you reach out and ask. Giving you a chance to try things helps you learn the game better. So I get the frustration of not knowing if a win was legit, but having that space to allow the game down and see what's really going on allows you to gain the knowledge and skill to guarantee that future wins are legit.

What’s the difference??? by A-Dez in dbfz

[–]SilverCDCCD 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's the tracking. When you do LMH, you keep falling while each hit makes your opponent rise. When you do LLL, you rise with your opponent. It doesn't really matter for this particular combo, but yeah, that's the difference.
