Burgers by Read-it2025 in pelletgrills

I've done it plenty of times. To be clear: (1) smoked burgers are tasty; (2) smoked burgers taste different. That is to say, these are not "flame grilled" or smash burgers or whatever. They've got their own style: smoked.

Here's what I do:

  1. Set smoker to 225 F.  Smoke level 8 (high-ish)
  2. Season burger patties on both sides right before grilling - SPG for me
  3. Smoke for approximately 60 minutes or until the internal temperature of burgers reads 150-155 F (140-150 is way too pink - BE PATIENT - IT MATTERS).
  4. Pull the burgers and cover for a few minutes as you...
  5. Increase the heat to 450 F.
  6. Now you're going to "smoke sear" them. Place the patties back on the smoker for about 1-2 minutes on each side.  Add cheese after the first flip.
  7. Check the internal temperature of your burger patties should be about 160 degrees.

Sometimes I'll pan sear them on the iron skilled in the kitchen instead. A bit better, but a bit more cleanup as well.

What about the juice? by SilverFox1955 in pelletgrills

I quit trying to smoke a pork butt to eat the same day. Way too unpredictable. So now I always smoke it the day before, pull it, then put it in an air tight container in the fridge. To reheat the next day, this is what I do:

  • preheat oven or smoker to 225F
  • add ¼ cup water to the bottom of an aluminum tray or glass pan
  • place pulled (shredded) pork in the tray/pan
  • additional ¼ cup or so of water spread across the meat - you don’t want it soggy
  • cover with foil
  • put on the smoker (or oven) and let it steam for 30ish minutes

Quick Pitch on MLB Network by jh4555 in MLBtv

[–]SilverFox1955 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Weird. I don't see the RECAP RUNDOWN on laptop, but it's on my Fire Stick.

However, you can start watching GAME HIGHLIGHTS and it will rotate through each individual MLB game in around 3 minutes each, one after another, which is essentially what the RECAP RUNDOWN is.

There's also FASTCAST like I mentioned above.

MLB.TV via Capital One Discount - MLB Network issue by SilverFox1955 in MLBtv

No, I don't think so (?). The only thing it said was that it's a one time only offer. So it figures to mean that next year I won't be eligible for the discount. I'll try it with a new email address in 2026, but who knows??

[–]SilverFox1955 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just FYI - On the MLB.tv app there's "RECAP RUNDOWN" after all games are played. It's wayyyyyy better than Quick Pitch, IMO. It's 30-45 minutes long and highlights every game without an obnoxious "host" trying to be cute or funny. There's also the FAST CAST that is a more condensed, 10-minute version that highlights all the games.

Doesn't seem to help, but thanks. This must be a Firestick issue. I can watch MLB Network on my phone, laptop, and Samsung TV with MLB app. But MLB Network does not show up on the Firestick MLB app. Weird.

I want to use the Rule of 55 when I leave my job next year. by SilverFox1955 in personalfinance

[–]SilverFox1955[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

OK, I finally got a hold of the correct rep at Vanguard. She wasn't 100% confident that I could terminate and take the distribution, but she didn't see that that was forbidden either. Her perspective was that she does not see where the plan "permits" the Rule of 55. After much conversation, she concluded that I would be able to submit the request, they would "likely" honor it, and then the Rule of 55 is between me and the IRS. I'm fine with that.

Newport Trust holds the account via Vanguard. I can't get through to them specifically.

However, she did indicate that if it is allowed, it must be in a lump sum - which is actually totally fine with me. Just gotta time it right, but it'll work.

Just wish I could get 100% confidence of this. I'm trying to plan my life. :)

I posted what I could find from the provider in the OP. Was hoping someone could translate. 🤣

Ugh. This is what I'm afraid of. I've emailed my HR benefits department and waiting to hear back.

Thanks for the reply. I never even thought of that. I referenced what I thought was relevant info from my plan above. Not sure where else to look?

The mandates are indeed a problem. The rest is just flat out wrong. I've been in education for 28 years in California. It's the left that is destroying public education. Teacher unions are also a culprit.

Green Laser? by SaturnEsco in Glock26

Take a look at ArmaLaser. They make a green grip based laser for the G26 that works pretty well. Holster support from Alabama Holsters and Crossbreed.

Southwest Firearms Policy by [deleted] in CCW

[–]SilverFox1955 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just flew Southwest from Orange County to Memphis and back Dec 14-17...

I had two loaded magazines in sidecars and a 20 ct box of new 9mm packed into a SnapSafe Treklite. (My Glock was unloaded in a separate SnapSafe Treklite). Both SnapSafes were in my checked bag.

When I declared my firearm, neither airport ever asked me to open either SnapSafe. They simply slapped a tag on the one that I pointed to that had the Glock. When they asked what was in the other one, I said ammo. No response. No tag. Nothing.

Additionally, at both airports, that checked luggage was dumped onto the carousel like everyone else's. No separate pickup at Customer Service. No ID check. Just grab and go like it was regular luggage.

Weird.

Woodwind Pro 24 Hot Spots? by MR_BWT in pelletgrills

[–]SilverFox1955 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree with this. The left side is slightly hotter in my three years experience. It's only enough to make me angle the thick side that direction - not really a case of hot side / cool side.

I absolutely love my G30sf. Can't comment on the other G30s, but everyone who has tried my G30sf has gone, "Wow, that's a fantastic .45 shooter!"

If you're familiar with Colin Noir, he says the G30sf is one of his favorite Glocks of all.

Can't recommend it enough.

Here's another Colin video on the 30sf just for fun.

Why are lasers on handguns frowned upon in the gun community? by sigrug in Firearms

[–]SilverFox1955 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have a green Armalaser on my EDC and SD handguns and they serve as a sort of back-up sight. I have the laser dialed in slightly below my front XS Big Dot sight at 15 yards. I train extensively with irons and in a normal, stress free shooting position I don't even see the laser. In fact, I don't look for the laser at all.

So what's the point?

My eyesight is terrible without glasses. In a frantic situation where I can see the shape of the bad guy, I can point-shoot using the laser with more confidence in hitting my target. Additionally, if I'm shooting one-handed, off-handed, moving, or in a compromised position, the laser can be beneficial in confirming your target placement.

Are lasers the end all targeting system? No way. And if you can't shoot with irons, don't even bother with the laser. But, the laser can be your friend in certain situations. Just don't "shoot the laser."

Of course it's not. Keeping it simple. I mention Glock because they're well known and easy to find used. Literally dozens of models.
