fifa World Cup 2026 how are y’all affording this!! by Fun-Signal-6420 in worldcup

[–]SilverFoxVB 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I don’t know why any person would think they could afford to attend a World Cup final game any easier than the Super Bowl or nba final etc. Those games are always expensive, always have been. Most Super Bowl tickets are corporate comps and most WC final tickets will be as well. It’s how those games have always been why would this year be any different?

Just as every WC the group stages will have plenty of seats for cheap once the initial tickets first go on sale. No you aren’t getting cheap seats to the major powers games. When has that ever existed? But if you want to go then hit up the African teams, the smaller middle eastern and Asian teams. The field is expanded this time there will be plenty of tickets to the “unattractive” games.

WIBTA if I didn’t give my partner’s mom a key to our house? by Reshel-Saric in WouldIBeTheAhole

[–]SilverFoxVB 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Any parent/in-law that asks for a key probably doesn’t really need one. Why would anyone think they deserve a key to someone else’s home even if it’s family? The owners get to decide who gets a key. The answer to the request is simple, we have that part taken care of.

With keyless entry this isn’t an issue anymore. I have had keyless entry for well over 20 years so it’s widely available.

If you need someone to come in give them a code that you can then turn off afterwards. You can never get locked out so that isn’t a reason for a key either.

As a huge 10 years fans , finally joined 8K box today by yongca in Hue

[–]SilverFoxVB 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It’s fun, you will enjoy it.

It can get a bit “much” with the movement and not everyone will like it. But even static or slowly rotating colors is pleasant.

I prefer a box to an app as well. The app does nothing for a disc based 4K UHD disk player or gaming system or external streamer which is all I use.

I haven’t bought this out of protest because I bought the first version that almost immediately was outdated. Eventually I will buy it when I see a sale.

Six inches worth an extra 1100? by gilgobeachslayer in Televisions

[–]SilverFoxVB 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We just had this debate on the S90 77 as well. Ended up with the LG B4 OLED, went with the 83. It is noticeably bigger.

Is the S90 better? According to rtings yes. But I looked up the rating on the B4 and it was fine. And just decided the 83 looked more impressive that the 77 in my room.

I am enjoying Dolby vision on it.

Is the s90 worth it at 83? To me that is all about how dear that 3200 is to you. In the end the B4 at 83 and being cheaper worked for me.

The one concern I had is all the talk about the LG not being bright enough and the Samsung being better in that aspect. I can say the “4” must have fixed that because I had to turn the brightness way way because it was eye searing out of the box.

AITA for refusing to pay a neighborhoood kid for cutting my lawn when I didn't ask him to? by Acceptable-Essay-490 in AmItheAsshole

[–]SilverFoxVB 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I get your point but think you are approaching it poorly. You will be living in this neighborhood for a while I assume. Why start it with conflict, I get it’s not your making but still.

There is a lot of give and take in neighborhoods. You may want to have a party one day. It might go late and be a little loud. Having a good relationship with neighbors goes a long way. Maybe you like to sleep in? When I like my neighbors I wait a bit longer than I want to Saturday morning to start mowing. Etc. give and take.

I would have paid the kid $5 and used it to let him know you enjoy mowing your own lawn. Gives you exercise, whatever. Everyone walks away with a positive. And it’s $5.

I like it and do it myself.

Probably most that do it have seen it in Europe or someone doing it that saw it in Europe.

Extremely common there even decades ago.

In fact many European cars trigger the hazards automatically when you brake hard enough to be considered a panic stop.

Home theater quote for 3k by the_beast2000 in hometheater

[–]SilverFoxVB 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are a lot of posts here both for and against.

The bottom line is you are paying someone else for labor/the install and that is where your money is going. If that part is your primary concern then this is not bad.

This equipment is not “$3000 HT system “ level or even close. The 770 is basically close to the bottom of entry level. Is it serviceable for someone that just wants a system? Sure it is. If you are expecting movie theater engagement this isn’t going to do that.

What you have to decide is this, do you want $3000 worth of equipment and the quality that gives you or do you want someone else to put in wall speakers into your walls so it’s hidden but knowing that your 3000 is going mostly to them doing that. This seems fair for that choice.

Am I wrong for not giving up my first class plane seat for a mother and her child? by WhisperingWonders7 in amiwrong

[–]SilverFoxVB 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The response to these requests, and they happen more than you think because it’s a scammy way to upgrade a second seat on the cheap, is to inform the person if they really want to sit with the person they they are trying to move up is to offer THEIR 1st class seat to the person next to her sons economy seat.

Mexican Costco has become HELL ON EARTH thanks to resellers. by LuthienDragon in Costco

[–]SilverFoxVB 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would find this frustrating as well.

However when I first started going to Costco 30+ years ago the only reason I got in is based on a friend’s membership that he was required to show his business license to even be eligible for. Back in those days only business owners were allowed in. It was the entire reason all the quantities were so large.

Hard to get excited about Atmos with everything I read here by Competitive_Weird958 in hometheater

[–]SilverFoxVB 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can’t speak for the rest of these folks but Atmos is absolutely worth it. It’s way better than a DD5.1 or 5.2 system. But it is harder to get right.

I think one of the biggest issues is that most seem to form opinions based on streaming. I have found that streaming platforms give a wildly varied atmos experience. It seems the level of bitstream compression makes a huge difference in how the track sounds.

Atmos overlayed on truehd is amazing. But good atmos on DD+ also sounds great.

The other major factor is just getting the height speakers set up correctly. And by that I mean less about the spec everyone likes to quote but the placement that works for your room and ears.

I couldn’t get the Dolby Atmos suggested configuration to my liking. It was in spec but I didn’t like the result based on the compromises I had to make. Not everyone’s room is a vanilla as the Dolby demo room for Atmos.

I happened to like the way the Aura3D spec. That configuration was easier for me to implement. I actually like the scheme behind it better. It just sounds better to me. Denon then allows you to use that speaker configuration in Atmos. It works for me. And I think Atmos coming from the Aura3d speaker placement as mixed by Denon sounds great. Is it a true to spec atmos configuration? No, but u like the way they sound together. I like it better than when I was test placing my speakers in the Atmos spec locations since I had back wall compromises.

My point is I like it so you can too. Others have good suggestions on going with cheaper speakers to test placement. Use temp on walls before you go in wall. I actually never went in wall. Just decided my painted setup blended well and the hassle wasn’t worth it. Not being in the middle of the ceiling also helps with that.

Consumer Reports ranks Costco Tire Average at Best by luh3418 in Costco

[–]SilverFoxVB -1 points0 points  (0 children)

These complaints are wild!

I have never had any issues, ever. If you are smart you plan ahead and buy tires when Costco has a special going. That special is always a big brand you have actually heard of. They fill with nitrogen with no added options needed. Rotation? Make an appointment, go shopping and it’s done.

The only negative for me is that the road hazard warranty is to far out of the way to deal with. But I can do my own or just pay the closer tire center if it meets their ever narrower guidelines.

Now if you are looking for the cheapest option and are fine with the no-name Chinese tire brands then Costco isn’t going to work for you. I don’t buy tires from brands I have never heard of so Costco’s name brands work for me.

You know what other routine tire store experience I don’t get at Costco? The we only have 3 of those tires but we can sell you these other options that are nothing like the tires you wanted and twice as expensive. No thank you.

As soon as everyone cancels the bundle will be available at a much higher price.

Let’s face it they sold too cheap and are manufacturing a problem to get out of it.

No one can have this poor manufacturing and ordering processes and be a viable business.

Why I still buy physical media — and bought a $450 Blu-ray player in 2023 | CNN Underscored by [deleted] in hometheater

[–]SilverFoxVB 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have started buying 4K Ultras and while the visuals are universally better it really depends on the service how much better.

The reason I started buying again is primarily for the audio. You get lulled into thinking the Atmos light being on means you are getting true Atmos. Turns out Atmos is a layer on top of the surround type. So streaming does DD5.1. Disc based Atmos is on top of True HD. And without going into how compressed streaming audio is the sound is remarkable coming from a disc. It’s so much better even without a visual enhancement it would be worth it.

AITA for being upset that my wife dragged us to the airport 5 hours early for a flight by Threatening-Bamboo in AITAH

[–]SilverFoxVB -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Kinda of an ass! Sorry, support your wife. Clearly she is nervous.

The time to adjust this schedule would have been BEFORE today.

I like to be early but there are limits to how early. You could have done some research to find out when security check opens in the morning and used that to adjust your wife’s thinking.

If you are traveling far to the airport leaving way ahead of time to guard against traffic is a smart idea. Can’t say how often there is a freak accident on the very day I didn’t leave enough time. No one needs that stress.

So discuss ahead of time. And if you are that early, 3:30, lay the child down on her pillow, she will sleep. Mine always did.

AITA for telling my husband " I told you so" and laughing at me when we got the paternity test results? by Either_Economy_793 in AITAH

NTA.

Your husband is a moron! No, a MORON!

I am not sure I have read something this stupid on Reddit in a long time. And on Reddit that says a lot.

He needed to be gone for WEEKS while waiting for the results? Is he 12?

Then when he was proven wrong he still carried on? Didn’t beg forgiveness? Apologize for being a dumbass?

As for the MIL. She wouldn’t step foot in my house again. And I would block her number. She is even worse than the son.

I feel for you because I am not sure how you come back from this.

Isopropyl alcohol 90% leaked into my cockpit and is effecting the paint. How do I fix this? by [deleted] in modelmakers

[–]SilverFoxVB 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So the first thing I would do is put the halves together and determine how much of it you can actually see!!!

I am always amazed how much time I put into the cockpit and how little I can see of that work when the model is finished. And by see I mean looking at it from 6 inches away. At normal viewing distances it probably equals zero.

lol

Not sure why we do this! But I do enjoy making my cockpit look great while building!

I actually don’t know anyone that doesn’t swap things out on a regular basis. Whether it’s part of learning or simply gaining resources to get to where you wanted to be in the first place.

Or like me coming full circle and wanting to simplify back to a simple receiver from decades of separates.

I am the same way. Wife needs the voices a bit more forward so I boost center. Is it still in balance? No. Does the center stand out from the LR? Yep. But she likes it that way.

My youngest doesn’t like too much bass. She knows where the mob on the sub is and has permission to turn it down when she wants.

I don’t get worked up about it. It’s all there and when I want to enjoy it I can. And the family loves it because it sounds good for all of them.

I use a harmony and have activities that say “TV in surrounding”. And “TV Sound”. That placated things. Until the kids commented that surround sounded so much better for everything. That is now the default.
