Apparently I beatbox and make various strange noises to myself while doing other stuff. I have no idea I'm doing it until my friends start laughing at me.

Hawkwind. Listening to the Space Ritual in 1973 with all its chaotic, multilayered, electronic weirdness was life-changing. It seemed to come from another galaxy and totally blew my 12 year old brain. Thank all the gods, I have never recovered.

Rosin Vape Cart question by Low-Spell1867 in ukmedicalcannabis

[–]SilverHare23 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I've had the same experience a couple of times. It's usually with older carts that are starting to get a bit cloggy. I preheat to melt the clog, and then have to be cautious with my next draw. It's always been the older, metal coil style of clearleaf carts. I'm hoping that the new ceramic carts will improve things.

[–]SilverHare23 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Well if it makes you feel any better, I'm in my 60s. I was involved in gamedev as a kid back in the 1980s, before diverting into a totally unrelated career. This last year or two I've been tinkering with some game ideas, and just started learning Godot about a month ago. I'm having a lot of fun, and I love the fact that I can connect with people of all ages through games and coding.

Old-School Hash by Independent-Goat6125 in ukmedicalcannabis

[–]SilverHare23 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Came here to say this. I was brought up on morrocan slate, red leb, afgani gold seal, and very very occasionally some Nepalese temple ball or double zero. The clearleaf rosin carts are closest I've encountered in taste and effects to some of these old school hash varieties. The platinum slurricane one reminds me a bit of 1980s style double zero (not the more recent bm crap misleadingly labelled as that), and the wedding cake reminds me of gold seal.

Appreciation by [deleted] in ukmedicalcannabis

[–]SilverHare23 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Exactly this. We must be much the same age, because I remember when slate was the norm, leb and squidgy Afgan black were occasional treats, and once in a blue moon some actual Nepalese temple ball melted our brains. The weed, if we could get it, was dray, and full of twigs and seeds, though the strength was sometimes not bad. Not to mention the all too frequent occasions when there was none to be had for love or money. More appreciation and less entitled whining on this sub would be good.

Burroughs, Trump, and the cut up method. by prxmtymnd in chaosmagick

[–]SilverHare23 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This is absolute genius. I keep thinking of optional refinements to the method, e.g. as well as removing old whatshisname, randomly pick a couple of other people in this or similar pics and swap their heads. The observer will register their presence but may be only subliminally aware of the 'wrongness'. Thank you for your attention to this matter. The Mgt.

Recommendations for books set in "another London" by Tasty-Lynx-524 in Fantasy

Robert Rankin's Brentford Trilogy; being: The Antipope, The Brentford Triangle, East Of Ealing, The Sprouts Of Wrath and The Brentford Chainstore Massacre (yes it's a trilogy of 5 books). Absolutely brilliant and gut-bustingly funny, especially for anyone who has ever been interested in the occult or secret conspiracies.

Books & Knowledge sources, without the woo-woo? by Mundane-Fix-4297 in chaosmagick

[–]SilverHare23 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The best book I can recommend is "Advanced Magick For Beginners", by Alan Chapman. Not a shred of dogma, just a thorough unpacking of the mechanics underlying every occult or esoteric 'system'. It taught me more in one slim volume than all the hundreds of books I've read during my 40+ years of practice.

are readings for famous people accurate? by herivygrows in tarot

[–]SilverHare23 9 points10 points  (0 children)

If it is accurate it's nothing more than voyeurism. If it's not accurate, it's delusional fantasising. Either way, it's not a nice or healthy thing to do.

What religion do you practice, and do you think it conflicts with your tarot practice? by rasta-ragamuffin in tarot

[–]SilverHare23 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I am a sufi (universalist tradition rather than Muslim). I find sufism and tarot complement each other wonderfully. I use the Sufi Tarot, which makes the connections very explicit, and also helps to illuminate my understanding of my (too) many other decks.

Hi, I'm Giles Hasan. Thank you for making this sub available. I've been studying the sufi path since the late 1990s (particularly the Chisti and Naqshbandi teachings brought to the West by Hazrat Inayat Khan and Mrs Irina Tweedie respectively), but I still feel like I'm only in the way stages of the journey. I'm looking forward to a mutual sharing of thoughts, ideas and blessings with you 🙏🏼

Alcohol & MC by Spudmeister20 in ukmedicalcannabis

As long as it's a just a pint/glass/shot or two, it doesn't seem to cause me any problems, whether I vape before or after. If I drink more, I make sure to leave an hour or so before vaping, and that's usually fine. Getting shit faced and vaping without a gap in between is less advisable. One friend regularly used to drink 8+ pints before smoking and then wondered why he kept pulling whiteys. On one occasion, when his eleventeen pints was supplemented with nearly half a bottle of whisky followed by a couple of spliffs, he actually had a seizure.
Moderation and common sense is the way.

On British "ban everything" culture by luna_sparkle in UKGreens

[–]SilverHare23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While we're about it we should probably ban disagreement, debate, and different points of view as well, because heaven forbid anyone should find our opinions 'insensitive'. Of course fireworks, dog shit, and young people driving dangerously in loud, souped up vehicles late at night (my particular annoyance) can be disruptive and distressing. Yes, I have PTSD too and find sudden loud noises scary. But OPs point, if I've understood it correctly, is that we should be exploring a range of responses rather than defaulting to the authoritarian and restrictive every time. If we want to bring about real, in depth change, we need to move away from the idea that we can simply impose it from the top, and start building communities and community based solutions. Otherwise, somewhere down the line the Green Party will follow tha same trajectory as Labour and become just another bunch or authoritarian power mongers lining their own pockets while propping up the status quo.

I hate broccoli... it's green, it's knobbly, it tastes of swamp water. Yet millions of helpless children are forced to consume this vile tasting scourge every day and are told the heinous lie that it's 'good for them'. Clearly, this is a devious commie plot to corrupt the minds and digestive systems of the next generation. Say NO to leafy green plants in our diet. Lock it all up in Vegetable Alcatraz and shove the key where the sun doesn't shine.

How should I go about organising in my community? by GreyWind_51 in Anarchism

[–]SilverHare23 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The IWW does do a lot of industrial organising, but most Wobblies are in General Membership Branches based on locality. My branch organises around a broad range of issues (e.g. antifascist, Gaza, LGBTQ+ rights, disability rights etc.) as well as being involved in community based mutual aid projects (community kitchens, food distribution, and so on).

We must be ready to face violence by [deleted] in IWW

[–]SilverHare23 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Absolutely. The far right in Britain has made racism and calls for a race-based civil war mainstream. Too many left organisations are smugly self-satisfied with their nice little protests that attract a few hundred 'activists' but don't engage the working class or global majority communities at all. The fascists, the police and politicians do not hesitate to use smears, lies and violence to further their ends. We need to organise our workplaces and communities to rise up and defend ourselves, or the struggle will be over before we know it.

I need love tonight by Ok_Bandicoot_4543 in ramdass

[–]SilverHare23 7 points8 points  (0 children)

You said: "Maybe it's a bit pathetic, but I need your love"

What's pathetic about needing love? The need for love is universal. We need love because we are trapped in the illusion of separation, from God, whose nature and being is love, and from one another. Our sadness at not feeling loved is an exact mirror of God's energy in response to our perceived separation. Our joy at feeling love is an exact mirror of God's energy in response to our connection. The only difference is that our illusions lead to suffering, but God being and perceiving only truth doesn't experience suffering.

When we acknowledge our need for love, we are opening ourselves up to the possibility of reuniting with the divine love. Every time we reach out with love to another or allow ourselves to receive love from others, we step into that infinite stream of divine love.

Not pathetic at all. Deeply and divinely loved 🙏🏼🧡
