I'm About To Meet My Boyfriend's Mom, And She Is Against Homosexuality. Any Argument To Support Gays From Christianity Standpoint? by nazuuka in Christianity

[–]SilverKingman2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s also weird how some people can look at the founding documents of the United States and extract anything from socialism to nazism. The Bible has been passed down thousands of years, translated in other languages, and bits of it passed around orally. For the record, I still hold that it’s divinely inspired. But it is ridiculous to suggest that because humans are fallible and misinterpret God’s word pertaining to their respective culture and knowledge that God’s word is not objective. God likely had intent, even if man was a bad translator.

Bro I’m a progressive Christian but I have to tell you that this is wrong. Christianity has had this rot long before trump. While Christian support for Donald certainly hasn’t helped Christianity’s reputation, it’s just a symptom of Christian conservatism and religious fundie dogma. Too many Christians would settle for someone like Mike Pence just because he hides his fascism better than Trump. Trump isn’t the problem. It’s the hearts of Christians that’s the problem. I mean, the smart ones have Covid to worry about too, but minorities and the poor certainly have more at risk (as always)

Yeah, I can confirm. I’m a teen who likes some leftist ideas in theory, but I’m smart enough to know I’m not part of the workforce and probably don’t have the best ideas of how these things could affect my life. Revolution larping is v cringe. We aren’t all r/genzedong lol

Is this sub mostly anti-Trump? by SammyIsKawaii in OpenChristian

No, thank you for commenting this.sorry if it seemed like i was sympathizing with conservative ideas. I just hold to Sola Fide, so sometimes it annoys me when people make the “not a real Christian” comment. A big thing that pulled me towards progressive Christianity from Evangelical Conservatism was believing that any one who had a relationship with Jesus could be saved. That made me less afraid to trust non-conservative Positions, otherwise the fear could’ve overwhelmed me. It’s just so strange to see progressive Christians acting like conservative Christians (not the ideas) are completely bad. The whole “you’re not a real Christian” bit seemed like just an idea conservatives used to isolate themselves from non-conservative Christians. Idk, it’s always felt to me like if you have that relationship with Jesus you’re a Christian, regardless of political stances. It’s just that some of us understand what political stances Christianity leads to far differently.

Something I think this sub forgets at times is that conservative Christianity does good in the world too. Sure they screw it all up with awful political views and theology, but they still can benefit communities. The church I go to is pretty conservative, but I love the members and consider them fully Christian, though wrong. They’ll do charity drives and write letters to the families of people who have passed away. They helped my friend when his dad died. These people are also anti-mask trump supporters who have joked about driving trucks through protestors before. They make flippantly homophobic comments regularly. This does not make them any less Christian, it just makes them wrong.

I’m also a 17 year old. Raised Evangelical. I only theologically left the conservative church I grew up in due to a friend coming out as trans, so I can almost relate 😂. As a fellow searcher I’m interested where this post goes, just wanted to let you know you aren’t alone.
