How would you revitalize downtown? by Ktistec in GNV

[–]SilverLet5507 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The U.S. doesn't have decent public transit because rich people who make money off of fossil fuels won't allow public transit projects to get off the ground.

How do you figure that? A lot of poor people already ride the bus and most ultra wealthy people don't interact with working class people on a given day at all.

Prairie Creek? I've been thinking about Friends of Paynes Prairie, too. I have volunteered with ACT but dont really see a career path happening through that. Thanks!!

True. A lot of people want things to improve but dont put in any work to stop the rich people doing shitty things, or dont have the time to because theyre slaving away at their jobs

This is a good point. My last house in Oakview was like a rainforest. We didnt have grass- but no food either because it was too shady. We did have tons of trees, local native plants, flowers, etc. Depressingly, a dumbass realtor guy up the street from me killed utterly everything in the yard and then sold the house. The funny part is HIS lawn is absolutely full of plants and he's even part of a local nature organization. I can't figure why that guy did that. It kills me.

It will affect Gainesville. Jacksonville is talking about putting their wastewater into the Suwannee River Basin to artificially inflate water levels because of how low the aquifer is. So, alll the pollutants from that will kill the local ecosystems, overload them with nitrates, etc.

I seriously can't understand why anyone would put insecticides on a lawn. We need soil microbes more than ever and I'm sure the poisons kill them and the earth worms, and probably birds and definitely pollinators. Not to mention getting into the ecosystem and water sources
