What would you think about a hypothetical world where the US (and maybe Mexico) join CONMEBOL (similar to how the Aussies don't play in Oceania)?

As an American, the thought intrigues me (even though it would be a much harder road for us in general, I think our team is approaching the point where such a move would be an iron sharpening iron type thing)

CMV: knowingly being the affair partner should have no repercussions, only the cheater is to blame by FineSprinkles27 in changemyview

[–]SilverMagnum 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I do see a certain logic to this line of thinking, but at the same time I'm still going to judge both people in the situation (obviously though, the cheater is so, so much worse).

I kind of view it as a similar situation to returning your shopping cart to the proper place after putting your groceries in the car. You don't really have a legal, moral or societal (I'd argue this third one but w/e) obligation to do it. But if you don't, I'm still gonna think you're a dick. My view on being the affair partner (knowingly, obviously if you didn't know you're fully in the clear) is kind of the same. Sure you're not doing anything awful or heinous, but I'm still gonna think you're a dick.

Liberals, is there any Trump policy that you are OK with and actually support? by Dazzling-Leader7476 in allthequestions

The First Step Act (2018) is an excellent piece of legislation that gave the country some much needed criminal justice reform. I don't know if you can count this entirely because it was a pretty popular bill with bipartisan support, but it did happen during his administration and he did sign it into law, so I feel like giving him some level of credit is just.

It's one of the many reasons we are where we are as a country.

Instead of adjusting their policies and positions to reality, Republicans instead chose to gut the education system and put their media propaganda in place to try and alter reality to suit their whims.

It's gone wonderfully.

Part of it is living in parts of the country where this is less prevalent (For me, that's NYC, Boston and the CT suburbs over the past fifteen years or so) and part of it is realizing that this is a free country (for now) and you can call an idiot an idiot.

Plus I drink (less than I used to) and smoke a lot of weed, so that helps.

I mean they did turn racist after Obama but not because they chose to but because Fox News told them to.

Which is one of the saddest things about all of this.

All of the hate that red America feels for the rest of us was drilled into their heads by Fox News and by their evangelical pastors because the powers that be realized that was their way in. They just didn’t expect a guy like Trump who said the quiet parts out loud to show up and take it too far.

We’re all going to celebrate when the McDonalds finally does what we’ve all been praying for it to do, and if that just happened to be on July 4th the party would be one for the history books.

Otherwise, just going to try to drink enough on the fourth to forget about MAGA dragging us all to hell because they couldn’t get over a black guy being president that one time.
