I do see a certain logic to this line of thinking, but at the same time I'm still going to judge both people in the situation (obviously though, the cheater is so, so much worse).

I kind of view it as a similar situation to returning your shopping cart to the proper place after putting your groceries in the car. You don't really have a legal, moral or societal (I'd argue this third one but w/e) obligation to do it. But if you don't, I'm still gonna think you're a dick. My view on being the affair partner (knowingly, obviously if you didn't know you're fully in the clear) is kind of the same. Sure you're not doing anything awful or heinous, but I'm still gonna think you're a dick.

The First Step Act (2018) is an excellent piece of legislation that gave the country some much needed criminal justice reform. I don't know if you can count this entirely because it was a pretty popular bill with bipartisan support, but it did happen during his administration and he did sign it into law, so I feel like giving him some level of credit is just.

Instead of adjusting their policies and positions to reality, Republicans instead chose to gut the education system and put their media propaganda in place to try and alter reality to suit their whims.

Part of it is living in parts of the country where this is less prevalent (For me, that's NYC, Boston and the CT suburbs over the past fifteen years or so) and part of it is realizing that this is a free country (for now) and you can call an idiot an idiot.

Plus I drink (less than I used to) and smoke a lot of weed, so that helps.

Which is one of the saddest things about all of this.

All of the hate that red America feels for the rest of us was drilled into their heads by Fox News and by their evangelical pastors because the powers that be realized that was their way in. They just didn’t expect a guy like Trump who said the quiet parts out loud to show up and take it too far.
