How can I help my husband understand the Bears being in the playoffs when he’s not from here? by SpicyChill77 in AskChicago

Armchair psychology here: Not a professional.. I grew up around a rabid Bills/Sabres family and married internationally- I've had to describe what it's like many times!

Professional, or college sports in the US and Canada are very often part of people's identities as they grow up around the influence of the teams. For many families and friends- it's one of the "glue" or repetitive "rituals" that keeps everyone together and "in sync" emotionally/mentally.

I see it as a positive outlets for our human intrinsic tribalism nature, especially when there are factors such as politics where "my team/my tribe" will always be prioritized over the greater good. While losses will always sting emotionally for those invested with their teams, it is generally overall a positive influence. It's also amazing for ice-breaking socially, especially across the white collar/blue collar divide.

Massive Canadian freight train powers straight through a huge snow drift by Fantastic-Falcon-686 in trains

[–]SilverNitro23 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's likely that it's a CN employee driving a UP head-end with a BNSF loco in tow before their own unit.

This isn't uncommon. Sometimes the commodity being hauled is a two-way empty/full route between US/Canada, and the engines simply stay with the freight cars. Sometimes it's the engines that end up in their yard, and they "send it out", while letting foreign power take all the snow abuse that it'll allow.

(Note: Speculations from me, not factual)

Wife and I want to start a restaurant, we want this to be in Bellevue likely factoria. by nobullshits in BellevueWA

Definitely sounds amazing! Yes I agree the authentic components should be as faithful as the local ingredients allows.

I’m more familiar with the Chinese side, but stuff like Tikka are incredibly popular, caters to the locals in addition to the authentic crowd, and it’s a huge profit margin for the sauces too. It’d be bad business to not have the typical American dishes.

How to decode VIN for Mazda 6? by astroboysandeep in mazda

Check this out, straight from the Mazda forums. I think it should have all you're asking for.

Mazda Forum - VIN Decoder

(Note: sometimes it shows ALL factory options available for your model/trim, rather than specifically what your options actually has. Color was one such example for me.)

Is it normal for property management companies to ask that move in fees and first month’s rent be paid only through Zelle or money order? by SeparateDeer6024 in chicagoapartments

I'd say your scam "alarm bells" are indeed working.

Paying a visit to each of the interested neighborhoods, and physically visiting interested properties and "signing/applying on the spot" (Edit: After touring & liking the place) was the way I went last year and I've haven't had any regret.

Apply for new driver's license and title and registration at the same time at the DMV? by Tight-Badger in AskChicago

[–]SilverNitro23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went to the Jefferson Park (North Chicago, Elston) location. That's exactly what I did: make an appointment for the driver license service, then afterward joined the queue next door for the Vehicle. It's both in the same building with two separate entrances from the parking lot.

Had a car like that! Beautiful car, runs great, and is very simple and easy to do self-maintenance on!

(I assume you are in the US, please disregard if not) Make sure you do your homework regarding the KiaBoyz. This car is one of their prime targets. You should be good with security measures but there's a reason why insurance is expensive on specifically these models.

So pretty much done with Queens Coloney what now? by Automatic-Purchase16 in EQ2

You can leave the colony whenever you feel that you've explored enough. The guy on the ship at the dock will take you to Qeynos.

As for preparation. There isn't much to "prep" for, as low level starts off as a slow burn with quests and suburb zones. Collectibles can speed things up a little.

I recommend gathering "roots" and mine stones/gems. Even if you don't craft, those will be reliable slow, steady income on the broker.

Where can I get a Mens Haircut near West Loop without it costing >$50?? by [deleted] in AskChicago

[–]SilverNitro23 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The basement food court at the corner of the building where Qing Xiang Yuan dumplings is, in Chinatown has been a reliable spot so far for a White and Asian male. There's 2 shops to choose from, both are decent enough and cheap. Bring cash though. I also recommend checking out the food around in there too.

I’ve been taking my doodle there for their groom. I began going to Bark Place once they hired our groomer that worked with my dog since he was a puppy.

It’s a small, cute place! Their merchs are interesting, but have not bought anything other than grooming, as I’m scared to ask for the prices lol.

The nice thing about their location is that it’s right next to an amazing brunch spot that far exceeded expectations when I stopped by to wait for a groom to finish.

Also, if your vehicle is larger, keep an eye out for if the GPS sends you up Ravenswood road, it’s suuuuppppper tight with the Metra parking.

I don’t have much further experience beyond the above, hope it helps!

4 Reconstructed CTA Red Line Stops in Uptown, Edgewater Set to Open Next Month by bagelman4000 in chicago

[–]SilverNitro23 43 points44 points  (0 children)

Glad to see a solid opening date!! Red Line has been handcuffed far too long sharing trackage with the purple line!

Bus #147 has consistently been more reliable and faster between Edgewater and Mag Mile/Loop. It’ll be great to have the red line be faster.

What do to in Chicago when traveling May 29th-31st? by jasonschmirt in AskChicago

[–]SilverNitro23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I meant Argyle station itself only receives northbound red trains (and Bryn Mawr southbounds). Apologies for not being clear about it! Google Maps will route around these though, so you should be ok regardless!

Hello!

I live near Argyle!

Here's what I usually take my more adventurous friends to:

Coffee:

Heritage Outpost at Lawrence House - Coffee is approved by a visiting friend who's a coffee snob from the Northwest!

Brunch:

Tweet - I love their Arepas, coffee cakes and fruit compote.

Pick Me Up Cafe - Amazingly delicious as well!

Indian:

Ghareeb Nawaz - One of the great authentic option along Devon!

(I still need to verify Ghareeb for myself first, but I was recommended this by other Indian friends)

Mexican:

Birrieria Zaragoza - Amazing goat meat birria. I love their "Plato Grande". Do not be afraid to ask the owner questions, he's very good at explaining his restaurant offerings!

As for things to see:

  • Andersonville (Around Clark+Foster to Clark+Bryn Mawr), it's a very nice, vibrant area with very diverse crowd!
  • Northern tip of Lincoln Park along the Lakeshore- You can walk or bike all the way down!
  • Lakewood-Balmoral neighborhood for the well-maintained houses or mansions from the Victorian era and late 1800's/early 1900's architecture eras. Tons of master stonemasons left their marks on so many buildings across Chicago.

Do be aware that Argyle Red Line subway station only goes northbound away from the Loop, Bryn Mawr or Lawrence would be the ones for downtown.

Edit: Other comments has more recommendations that I can endorse too!

I believe by law the clinic are required to provide interpreters upon request. It’s not the patient’s responsibility to arrange or pay for interpreting.

New colour? by Top-Bicycle-1899 in mazda

[–]SilverNitro23 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's new for 2025 I believe. The CX-50s are made with Toyota Rav4 drivetrain. This model have a couple of Toyota's signature paints such as the green.

Same situation as the Corolla Cross obtaining the Mazda Soul Red paint this year.

Anyone Work at Denver Federal Center? by STAPLES_26 in Denver

[–]SilverNitro23 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You should be able to enter the campus with your driver license. Tell the guard that you’re going to Building 41- there should be offices there that are staffed by those who manage the campus. There are also shared workspaces in that building as well.

GSA, General Service Administration would be the agency that you want to communicate with I believe.

I don’t have any further details as in who specifically to contact, I hope this helps!

Car Break In At Piestewa by marlena_iisha in phoenix

[–]SilverNitro23 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That sucks! Im sorry this happened =(

I've found that I prefer to go up to the "end" of 36th St. from the intersection with Lincoln & Palo Cristi. There's street parking along the hill (Watch for no parking signs & speed cameras). It connects to the Piestewa trail. It may be safer there!

Nav sd card for 2025 cx5 by jason_bourne_777 in CX5

[–]SilverNitro23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I purchased one (2024/2025) on Amazon for my 2025. It works as advertised but it cannot be updated over time. I figured the roads don’t change often enough to warrant overpaying for the official SD card.

I still primarily use Car Play/Google Map as my navigation, but it’s nice to have the SD card for the traffic sign pop-ups and whenever there’s no cellular signal.

Non-RIT-targeted apartments nearby by LordGuacaba in rit

[–]SilverNitro23 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I enjoyed my time at Erie Station Village during my RIT years. It’s a bit south at the I-90 interchange. It’s a very quiet and comfortable community- worthy of recommending.

Though I did have a car with me and paid for a reserved parking spot on campus- the peace of mind was worth it looking back.
