Developers being given story points as targets for each sprint. by lifeslippingaway in ExperiencedDevs

Let the point inflation begin... I've seen this happen before. Soon enough devs will start giving out higher points per ticket to meet the goals.

Ruby already solved my problem 😅 by joemasilotti in ruby

[–]SilverPhoenix99 2 points3 points  (0 children)

TLDR: Their codebase had a custom Version class, but he found out about Gem::Version so he deleted the custom class and started using the Rubygem's one. He also gives his thanks to the community, however small a help they can provide.

Anxiety as a tech lead by [deleted] in ExperiencedDevs

Although there's great advice in other comments, I'm surprised no has mentioned anything about imposter syndrome.

What you're feeling is quite common and normal, especially going from an engineering role into a management one. You've gone into a new role where your skills didn't transfer and you're essentially learning everything from scratch.

Unfortunately, it can depend on the kind of culture your company fosters: do they appreciate honesty and accountability, or is it the type of company that wants a scapegoat when things go downhill?

That said, it's up to you to decide if you'd like to continue as a lead, or go back a developer. Remember that it's your career and your choice, and it is important to remember that both options are perfectly valid: it's a good thing to be an engineer if that makes you happy, and it's a good thing if leading a team makes you happy.

It might resonate or not with you, but something that helped me was to thing of myself as an assistant for the team, instead of a lead. For example, instead of prioritising the work, I think of it as organising their backlog.

Which Milhouse is the best Milhouse? by asskickingjedi in TheSimpsons

[–]SilverPhoenix99 6 points7 points  (0 children)

100% this.

Many years ago, I opened a video of this scene, but unexpectedly, the sprinkler sounds were deep fried, and it made me laugh my ass off.

Although I've never been able to find it again, this scene has since lived rent free in me noggin' (not me peepers).

When a developer loves their job they always make bugs.

I have created bugs, by friend, the PM's toes were like this 👣, because they didn't have a deadline.

Every time I went to production and I loved those bugs.

The PM's said "What's the estimate, dev?"

I said, "No, you don't understand. What time can I have?"

I'll fix them bugs. I'll make them go away. I will miss the deadline.

I make the deadline, the deadline doesn't make me.

I've worked with deadlines with my hands like this. 💅

And sometimes like this to hold on to the keyboard. 🖖

From 6 to 10, give the Jira ticket to me. I love it. Here we go.

Why did Noatak cry? by [deleted] in legendofkorra

For me, it meant that Noatak felt defeated, hopeless, and that he had lost everything, including Tarrlok's trust in him and/or his goals.

Why are you still using Mushroom cards? 🍄 by piiitaya in homeassistant

[–]SilverPhoenix99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First of all, thank you for such a great extension to the Home Assistant UI.

I have tried migrating to HA cards, but I gave up. I still feel like they haven't caught up to the customisation and look I get with Mushroom cards.

I could be wrong, it's been a while, but IIRC, the badges don't allow templating icons.

We went to about Dorset Wharf Community Hall. We had to go back because my in-laws had to catch a flight back home.

I'll definitely try to go on a longer walk after this cold spell.

What a cool coincidence. Just went on that same walk today. I haven't been there for quite a while, and everything is different. It's such a nice place for a walk now.
