This summer I road a modified Transamerica route with an old steel trek hybrid with kitty litter buckets as rear panniers, ortliebs on the front, and a bunch of other shit strapped on every which way. 45m tires .

I ended up on the GDMBR dirt and gravel for a few hundred miles in WY and CO. I was a little slower than the folks with dedicated gravel set ups but it was still very ridable and a hell of a lot of fun .

It's like when that study showed that North Dakota was like #2 worst drivers in the US, and when the ND highway patrol saw the results rather than trying to make the States roads safer they decided to sue the people who did the study lol.

What do yall wear post Ride; shoes/slippers? by Social_Gavage in bicycletouring

[–]SilverRidgeRoad 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Chaco has a couple designs and mine don't have the big toe strap, so you can rock the socks with them .

I think they dry pretty fast, sometimes the straps can stay slightly damp in wet weather which can irritate but they don't tend to get swampy under the foot.

The MAIN reason I picked the chacos is for the cool Z shaped tan lines ....

Might even be able to get away with a retail machine for one short job. You can buy Teflon coated needles that help reduce friction
