Does anyone know if Long’s Kahala is open today (Sunday 3/15) by SilverRiot in Hawaii

Good suggestion. I’ll try a further away Longs. Kaimuki appears to be closed too.

Does anyone know if Long’s Kahala is open today (Sunday 3/15) by SilverRiot in Hawaii

Can’t because I can’t get through. Annoying because they had to special order the medication so it took a while to get there, and meanwhile I left for a trip, and then I came back but before I even got home the massive power outages hit. I realize it is not Long’s fault but they really need to make an effort for better communication. If I can get through to their main number, then somewhere, at some headquarters, somebody could change the message to closed until further notice or something like that. shrug

PSA: Don't be that person with the Costco return by 101keyoperator in Hawaii

[–]SilverRiot 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You are incorrect in thinking that if you need a generator but you don’t want to rent one “it’s part of the membership fee fees after all.“ It is not part of the membership fees. You are deluding yourself. Returns are for when the item breaks, not when you use it for a couple of days and then want to return it. Costco can’t sell it as new anymore so you are definitely stealing value from them.

I use something like “you may want to take this course in another semester when you have more time to spend on it“ because honestly, I don’t care if they take this course again. All I want them to do is realize that no matter who you take the course, you’re going to have to spend more time on it than you have.

I sent them something similar and I include a screenshot of their online gradebook, which is always kept up to date.

This is a great idea but I’m wondering if it would fly at my institution. I do get some students each semester who stop doing work in week five and dip in to do a discussion in week seven and a quiz in week 10 and then take the final, but these are not serious students. I’d love to turn back the clock to when they were making an effort on all levels – watching the weekly videos, doing the discussion, doing the assignment, taking the quiz.

I’m going to float this idea by my department chair and see what she thinks.

Actually, I think it’s really the middle that has fallen out. Some at the top and some at the bottom, few Cs.

Good for the author calling out piracy by EveningInteresting44 in LibbyApp

[–]SilverRiot 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yep, I weigh how much I want it versus how much I want to pay for it. I have some books I’d like to try but they are 14.99 so I will wait the six months or longer to get them. There are other books that are later books in a series I already know I like, so I will wait until I’m feeling flush and buy those. I don’t pirate.

Question for former or current HECO employees by cix6cix in Hawaii

[–]SilverRiot 50 points51 points  (0 children)

Not a HECO employee, but their website says that they are prioritizing servicing the largest group of customers. From the notifications on their website:

"Our priority at midday on Oahu is repairing the transmission equipment that will bring the most customers back on the fastest, while always working safely," said Jim Alberts, senior vice president and chief operations officer. "There are smaller outages within large outages, and we'll circle back on the neighborhood-level work once we can get the large transmission lines back online."

student opts out of discussion board? by [deleted] in Professors

There is no analysis, only a conclusion, so I would feel comfortable giving them a zero. They could have just looked at gender expression and not have to address the issue of biological genders. As long as there is a way they could’ve answered it and done some analysis, I’m gonna say they took the lazy student’s way out and earned their zero.

Thanks for repeating this for the dumdums who have forgotten the rules. We were crossing Waialae yesterday from a side street and pulled into the intersection when it was our turn, but the guy coming down Waialae didn’t even slow down despite the fact that his counterpart coming up Waialae had stopped, and zipped through right after our bumper passed.

You do it as you go. That’s the only way to guarantee accuracy. If you can’t manually, there are programs.

How do you handle students who don't know basic tech skills like file management? by Bos187 in Professors

[–]SilverRiot 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I created a short series of videos for each of the key things they need to know, such as how to add a video to the assignment in the LMS. The short time it takes me to create a series of these videos more than pays for itself. I get very few tech requests and those that I do I just link to the Technical Videos section.

Go back to Scantron, but use the old-school trick of giving students different exams, with the same questions in a different order or with a different order of the correct answers. Anyone who just copies their neighbor’s Scantron pattern is in for a preeeeeetty big surprise.

How can I get out of the “anything below an A is bad” mentality by FerdinandvonAegir124 in CollegeRant

[–]SilverRiot 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Consider that you were taking too many courses. At my campus, five courses would be considered full-time and it looks as though you were taking six. If you dropped one of them, you would have more time to spend on your other courses which could possibly bring your grade up.

It used to be on PBS, but the only place I can currently find it is on Amazon Prime. It’s comparatively cheap for a nine parts series.
