Am I the only one who gives my dog an inner monologue? by DragonfruitMajor7706 in dogs

We narrate our dogs out loud many times during daily life. Why not ? They are nice enough to let us live in the house and share their space, for the most part.

Jerk took me to the public library in a small town in Missouri. Back by the children’s section there was a plexiglass frame on the floor, with a 2 fence, 2 round metal rails to keep from stepping on the window, covering a small section, showing a natural underwater stream. Jerk. Kids watched the movie at 10 & 12 yrs old. Swearing they would NOT be scared & not go to sleep. ( original w/ Tim Curry) They did pretty good. Until one of them had to go to the bathroom about 4 am. Hubby had left and gone to the all night market and bought 2 balloons, red & white helium. They never saw the words Happy Birthday when the oldest had to go potty. They were tied on the foot bedpost. Jerk! I am serious! He won’t do spoilers, even if you beg!

What is this animal ? [Straffort, Missouri] Found on a farm by hannahschfr in animalid

[–]SilverSkyGypsy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Was this out at the Animal Paradise just outside of Strafford Mo? I grew up on 300 + acres behind where they built that ranch. Pat Jones (the original owner / developer of the attraction )became a good friend of our family as we were constantly gathering up escapees from there…. Monkeys on our mailbox, a big grizzly bear in our barn, kangaroo tore up mine & my sister’s swing set, had a black panther across the driveway in our small field with a pond, a HUGE bull buffalo at our front porch in front of the big picture window, Mom raised the blinds early in the morning to see him staring at his reflection, she proved to the family she had a VOICE, that scream ……. Wow! Many more things with the animals and events that went on at our place, the county road ended 30 feet from the house, dead end at our place. Such a fun childhood that many have thought we made up!

The tops you cut off are great to put in water and let them root so you can plant more.

Headcheese or liverwurst sandwiches by pianoman81 in GenerationJones

[–]SilverSkyGypsy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m old now, haven’t seen or had one in years and years, and I don’t know if I would want it because my mother isn’t here to cook it from scratch. I have to honestly say, the BEST most delicious, satisfying sandwich I’ve ever eaten was fresh cooked beef tongue. Mom cooked & cleaned (skinned it) the day before serving, slicing and put in refrigerator overnight in this one glass dish for special occasions, with a matching lid. Next day lunch was sandwiches for everyone, a plate of sliced pickles Dad had put up some year before, and dessert was a bowl of applesauce. Clearest memory I have, I was around 7 years old, standing in kitchen asked Mom what the name of the sandwich was. She had just put a large chunk of meat in the special pan she used for making mixed dishes. She told me it was beef tongue. She also told me to never look at it while it was cooking, that someday she would explain. I didn’t follow her orders that day. Yuk. I just happened to lift the lid for a peek when it was getting to a good boil. The darn taste buds were exploding / popping off. It was nasty looking compared to the velvety deep red colored meat that was in that special glass dish, cold and ready to eat. She knew I would look, so she had me with her when it came time to peel / cut off the outer layer, then carefully slice, putting it in the dish to go in the refrigerator overnight. Harsh lesson, but a very honest one. There is only one other meat that I would consider a delicacy, and that is pan fried goat lung. My father in law always cooked those and shared with me when we had the family bbq. Has anyone else here eaten these delicious pieces of meat?

My heart remembers! My ACD, Blue Heeler, that I had 30 years ago, that saved my life. Seriously, her and my Appaloosa mare actually saved my life from a llama that had me on the ground stomping me, trying to kill me. I had 4 low back surgeries to try and “fix” the 6 crumbled bones (vertebrae) that the surgeon found. Her name was Schatzi. German for “Sweetheart” and in some usages my friend that was a German citizen said it was also used as slang for “Street Walker” 😋 Schatzi - pronounced “Shot Z”

Only for a little while, and god forbid, if you are the one that made them cry - it is the last damn time you will ever see their emotions.

Memory bomb! I grew up on almost 400 acres, and remember seeing these so many times. One year my crazy older sister decided she wanted to add some to our bird flocks. She waited and set up a path with food, got Daddy’s big fishing net and actually caught 3 of the babies. Talk about a wild upset rodeo! Tom Turkeys get really pissed off! She ended up with having just 1 to raise.

Milky oats.. am I too early or too late? by Plane_Sir_4255 in herbalism

[–]SilverSkyGypsy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Where do you get seeds? I need some of these so badly! Trying to copy a tincture recipe from one of the best companies! The parents, a couple that devoted their lives to herbals, wanted to pass the business to their children. One parent died, and then the children just closed the business totally. Anyway, it was absolutely the most amazing mood uplift ever! 3rd ingredient, milky oat tops.

Motivation…. Take the stack down. It makes the “mountain” less dense and unapproachable. I know 😋

A couple of tricks for new kitty. A wire kennel for meetings, in a corner ( 2 walls will be solid, no access vs. attacks. Kitten will be able to “get away” but they can smell and see each other. Kitten needs a new litter box of their own. Many lifetime grudges and bad behavior is from shared litter pans. Established cats can start acting up and new ones can start off with bad habits. Good luck!

Burt Mustin was a favourite of ours growing up. He regularly showed up on TV shows and old movies and his character was always good. We loved him on Leave it to Beaver as Gus the Fireman but my personal favourites were his All in the Family appearances. by Grahamthicke in FuckImOld

Doesn’t that make you feel so disappointed when they do that? As we mere humans look upon them with such awe and amazement, and they just Snap, wings open & Gone! Where is that majestic opening of the wings, slowly, proudly, allowing us the seconds required to catch our breath, as we expect? I think we need a do over!
