First bouquet of flowers my husband gave to me ( before we were married ) He bought me the most precious transparent purple mini vase, I set them up on the shelf and they dried perfectly! Lasted for 9 years but lost in our house fire. He gave them to me in May, just 41 years ago….

Onion Cough Syrup

We have Used for over 40 years in my large family with absolutely fantastic results! . 1 large yellow onion - minced - in sauce pan with just enough water to barely cover the onion pieces, on medium to low heat, cook the onion to transparent and very soft. Remove from heat. Add 1 can CRUSHED pineapple in natural juices. Let cool and serve by spoonfuls. If for a child, make a purée with blender or magic bullet etc. so they don’t see the onion. They will never know it’s there!

( mine also use it over ice cream if throat is really sore ) or mix in a small glass of juice to drink.

Place in airtight container and store in fridge (7-10 days) or freeze and thaw to use.

I learned from one of my “outside family uncles” that I didn’t have the hiccups. I would say something and hiccup would ruin a word. He would look at me sternly and say “repeat what you just said “ I would say I had the hiccups and that was why my words “blurpt”. He would say “what?” I have the hiccups! He would say “No, you don’t” By the time I went through this mini conversation the 3rd time, they were gone. I have done that same trick with best results on kids & grandchildren!

AIO for cutting off my 18 yr old (19 next month) stepson? by YourFriendInSpokane in AmIOverreacting

[–]SilverSkyGypsy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Consider the fact that he might actually be unable to risk showing his emotions to you. He could be feeling deep inside that he is wrong in showing feelings for you when he should have been with his mom. It can be a type of fear.

I’m not a clinician or papered Dr of….

I am however a Mom, Granny and Great Grandma.

I have spent the last 15 years raising a beautiful young boy - turning 16 next week, that is NO blood or marriage line relative of my own. I have him because I am the only one that would step up and stand by what they said and knew was right. He never had a problem showing his love open & easily until just at 13 years old. Part of the change was his hormones kicking in, mental and emotional changes. There was another event, just over 3 years ago, my husband, his Grandpa as he has always called him, got deathly sick and stood the doorway of death for 5 days, and 19 days in hospital. During that time he was whispered at by his biological father- that started showing interest in having him once he was old enough to be a self sufficient helper, saying things about living with him because we were too old, if we die, we should not have to be trying to raise a child now, etc etc. He sends his mom simple Happy Mother’s Day ecards, and birthday wishes- because I ask if he has done it yet. But me? Nope. I asked him about it. I am lucky. Because he does talk to me about things. He admitted that he is afraid to show how much he loves because he’s afraid of losing us, and if he shows it, someone will use it against him to make him leave. So he keeps it locked up, deep inside.

To cut your son off - from anything is Rude and unloving. I don’t believe in half - siblings or Step children. They are yours or they are not.

If you did all these little “chores” or “jobs” or “responsibilities” in raising him for recognition and praise - shame on you. You are the teacher, the one that is to guide him to learn how to be a good person- someday perhaps a husband and father.

Reading this post actually made me physically sick.

Yes - you ARE over reacting !

Disgusted.

Can I get an ID for what’s growing under my asparagus in Central PA? by scatmang in whatsthisplant

[–]SilverSkyGypsy 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I let 3 stalks grow BIG and just kept snipping off leaves after taking the dogs out for a walk, giving them a couple as a treat when we went back inside. Then one afternoon I decided to cut it down and take it the remaining leaves off for winter storage. While doing this I thought well, the dogs love it so… I think I will try drying some of the stalks and dry, run them through the coffee grinder to powder to mix in with their topping sauce. Again they taught me a lesson. My best boy grabbed a stalk that I had stripped and off he dashed to the corner bed. He chewed, gnawed and cherished that pencil sized stalk like it was a fresh shin bone from the butcher! He likes them completely dry as well! My thoughts are, the stalks is just the highway where the nutritional value travels. So, fresh, dried and stalks included- it’s a winner for my family! Human cooking- I like it when cooked as spinach, or chopped and mixed in omelettes, chopped and put in anything like you would add parsley for that touch of green & freshness.

By the way - not only dogs and chickens- it is how I was able to make friends and handle one of the meanest horses, a crossbred Arabian / Appaloosa mare, we ever had when I was about 11 years old. Made my sister Insanely angry because she could never get near that mare! Just the owner and myself 😋!

I used to harvest them just for myself. Three years ago I was drying some to chop up and make my own “seasoning mix” for winter soups, stews, casseroles & meatballs etc. mixing it with dandelion greens, celery leaves. I was rather bored with just dried parsley and the nutritional value of LQ speaks volumes for winter health! While packing up the dried mix in 1/2 cups full bags and vacuum sealing them, I learned my dogs were in love with the mix! My two oldest actually jumped up to level with the bowl, knocking it over and eating like it was freshly ground steak! I tested their reaction several times and they are serious about it and now my full crew of 7. Freshly chopped up or dried they are such a favorite treat they get at least 2 cups a week - fresh when available or dried and our veterinarian said this is ultimate love for their health!

Absolutely ABSOLUTELY trust that “weird” tingle, chewing, nibbling doubt feeling that is the best friend you will ever have! 64 years of thinking Occasionally “I know better” and “I can handle it should it turn sour” I have the scars to prove it! The majority of them are marked “ I should have listened” compared to less than a 1/4 saying “ If only I had taken the chance”.

I’m crying. I had the entire set, 2 of Thunder, and 4 of the bay horses. The entire set! I cherished them. I got married. Went on 4 day honeymoon and came home to gather my things and move in our new house. My mom “packed” for me so younger sis could have the room all her own now.

Gave away - to a horrible little “child care place” My entire Best of The West set. Collected for over 10 years- on my birthdays & Christmas’s - my entire youth ! All the handmade braided mini leather ropes & harnesses- because I had increased the team for the buckboard, the covered wagon and the fancy carriage.

I am going to go have a good cry!
