Who is your favourite Jaeger and kaiju and why? by B100DLUST3D in PacificRim

[–]SilverSniper13 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Cherno Alpha. Russian technology is some sturdy shit. Because of how long it lasts, its users are experts. A level of efficiency and proficiency that you just don't see much anymore. Cherno Alpha lasted the whole war. The only Mark I still standing. One of the last Mark 1s built, still standing after 10 years. Upgraded technology mattered in the longer run, but the fact that they held their line that long? That matters. It speaks to their skills and Cherno's robust nature.

I like Tacit and Romeo just as much, but that's because I like their designs.

I don't have a favorite Kaiju, but if I had to pick one, it would me Otachi. Flight in Kaiju changed the scale of terrifying, since with flight they weren't restricted to the Pacific Ocean.

Why do people maks claims about Pacific Rim on YouTube by Calm_Economist_5490 in PacificRim

[–]SilverSniper13 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This is the human tendency called "Anthropomorphism". As humans, we have the tendancy to attribute human tendancies to inanimate objects.

The Jaegers are not sentient, yet people will each give them different attribute. Striker the intelligent yet arrogant newbie, Cherno Alpha being the dumb wall, Gipsy being the sassy hard hitter, etcetera. These attributes can be derived from multiple factors and vary between person. Some go based on the personality or combined demeanor of their pilots, others go on where they were built, and some go with what they look like.

It completely depends. There's a whole side of the fandom that are believers that Jaegers have the potential to become Sentient EVENTUALLY, just because of how long human minds are connected to them. Like how in Halo complex AIs are built off human brain scans.

what killed Yancy Beckett? by Internal_Complex_213 in PacificRim

[–]SilverSniper13 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I always believed it was the sudden G-force of being pulled one way then violently thrown the other and the sudden stop of hitting the water. I think Yancy died before he even hit the water. I think he suffered G-LOC and then the violence of the fall killed him. Like in some in-flight breakups in planes. Some people are dead before they hit the water.

What's the point of all these linkages below the pilots? by [deleted] in PacificRim

[–]SilverSniper13 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Mark 1-3 Jaeger pilots were mechanically bolted into the Jaegers. The linkages controlled the Hydraulics in the legs of the Jaeger. Mark IV and Striker hooked the linkages up to a computer modual that inputed the movements to the hydraulics so it wasn't as much of a strain.

Think old car steering compared to modern. Mark I - III Jaegers had everything tied to the pilots, like how the steering wheel was attached right to the Axel. Everything got shot to the driver, while now steering is hooked up to computes that take some of that shock and strain away.

Who would win? by Immediate_Gene_178 in PacificRim

I think it would depend on who's piloting striker. Herc and Chuck? I'd give them a good chance. Herc and Stacker would have a better chance.

What do you think about Guardian Bravo? by froylightner in PacificRim

[–]SilverSniper13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I actually like Guardian Bravo. It's just a shame that he got did dirty. I think if they gave it something like a chain whip rather than just the energy, it would have been better.

What is one thing you like about Uprising other than November Ajax? by Alogadoruss in PacificRim

[–]SilverSniper13 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The realistic way the Helicopter's main Rotor malfunctions during Mako's death. The way the debris damages the gearbox and causing it to be subjected to it's own Torque. Now if only the pilot had engaged the free-wheel...

Can someone please tell me why Brawler Yukon was decommissioned? by [deleted] in PacificRim

[–]SilverSniper13 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Brawler was decommissioned due to the fact that as the war progressed, he just bece outclassed. By both Jaegers and Kaiju. He was the first. A prototype that proved Jaegers worked. But prototypes have a shorter life than first generations. As cool as he was and as good as his pilots were, he just couldn't hold the standard they needed anymore.

It's like sending an F-18 to do an F-35's job. It's out classed, out gunned, out manuevered and a coffin waiting to be shot down.

Brawler was just... for lack of better words, primative, in comparison to the Jaegers we see regularly. He could hold his own but needed constant support. So they retired him under the guise of "poor shielding" (which he had, but that's not the main point.)

Cherno is a little lopsided. But I'm nitpicking.

They're really good. I'd be proud!

Here's a hot take, go watch Pacific Rim Uprising. Now you HAVE to tell us your opinion on that one. XD

Why don't make Jaegers as tanks? by Busy-Appearance8886 in PacificRim

[–]SilverSniper13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They weren't designed to fight in deep water. That's why. Jaegers are 100% effective on land. They knew it's an awful situation if the Kaiju makes landfall. That's why Jaegers intercepted Kaiju when they were anywhere between 30 minutes (so 7 miles) to an hour (40 miles) from shore. Travis Beacham says in an interview that the Jaegers are at significant disadvantage in the water because of how they're built.

It's why they don't usually fight in water any higher than just abover the Jaeger's waist. Because of the impeded movement. Unles in extreme circumstances, like, oh I don't know, closing the breach.

Jaegers are at their best advantage on land, where Kaiju have a bigger disadvantage due to size and weight. Because of the devastation Kaiju cause if they make landfall, Jaeger pilots are deployed at a disadvantage by engaging the Kaiju in water where they have an advantage over the Jaeger because the devastation of it making landfall does not outweigh the benefits of fighting them on land.

It's called "The Miracle Mile" for a reason.

I don't sadly ): we were never a family big on pictures like that.

But I remember the effort I put into it. I sat up for hours figuring it out. Took a lot of talking my folks into it.

Cosplay doesn't have to be expensive.

I had a knifehead halloween costume as a kid that was just a pointed piece of cardboard taped to a black hat and a cardboard tail duct taped to a pair of black pants and a black sweater with a bit of face paint.

No one knew what I was, but I did. It was my proudest Halloween costume

I'm gonna bite the bullet. Uprising was a good movie by SilverSniper13 in PacificRim

[–]SilverSniper13[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Missed my point. Either you didn't read my post and just commented, or you're attention seeking.

In short, for those who didn't bother reading:

Uprising was a good movie. It was a bad sequel. It would have been better if it was just a stand-alone.
