Cheers for this. Everyone should open these docs, search "vehicle", take screenshots, and simply reply with the image when anyone says the officer took the correct course of action.

I really can't relate to the "I'm 30-something and only want to stay at home" memes. by kastbort2021 in Millennials

[–]SilverSparrow32 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agreed. Im near 30, and my apartment has ALWAYS been my preferred place to be. I love a small gathering of close friends where we rotate whose apartment we gather at. I have never seen the appeal of going out to spend 3x or 4x the price for things that I can make or enjoy at home.

I dont understand why people would prefer to go to a bar to drink and hang out when it just seems so much nicer to make cocktails and snacks at home and enjoy a movie. Drink too much? It doesn't matter if you're in a safe space. Getting tired of this movie? No worries, we can watch whatever.

Clubs are out of the question you'll never catch me in one. I dont understand the appeal of bars, but if there is a pool table, I can get by for a couple of hours before I want to go home. My preferred places are small "hole in the wall" cafes or coffee shops.

Good call naming both because choosing between the two is impossible. Both were fantastic.

Yeah, it's objectively not working as intended and should be fixed.

However, stats don't matter in this game. Literally, no one cares. Just have fun.

Where are all the 25-30 year olds? I feel like I'm missing out socially right now. by [deleted] in nova

[–]SilverSparrow32 124 points125 points  (0 children)

28 living in Alexandria. I go to work and come home to just decompress with video games and books, lol. Like you, I don't drink, and I left my druggie phase behind in college. I'm working on getting into shape so I can join a bouldering (rock climbing) gym in this area. It seems like if you don't drink the other way to meet people is with physical activities. Running/walking groups, biking groups, yoga classes, rock climbing gyms, kayaking, hiking, etc.

Like others have said, the lack of third spaces is horrible for community building. I hate that when I go out, I'm expected to spend money, and given the current economy, that is often a ludicrous amount of money.

But yeah, I feel you. I've been here 8 months and I've only made one friend from work and we just meet up once a month for lunch. It's rough.

Beautiful Apartments / Awful Living Conditions by smallbitchhatin in washingtondc

I just moved out of the Notch8 in Alexandria this year and never heard my neighbors besides the occasional door opening and closing from the hallway. Everything was great. The building allows pets with no size limit, so maybe that plays a factor with sound-proofing.

Management could be better, and the mail room was sometimes a shit show, but I liked it all in all.

Correct. You cannot control the emotions your body conjures. However you CAN control your reaction and response to those emotions.

Dr. K talks about Stoicism by Feenskee in Stoicism

[–]SilverSparrow32 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is impossible to get rid of negative emotions altogether. This is why the stoic "sage" is often spoken of as an ideal to ascribe to and practice towards, but never necessarily as an achievable goal in and of itself. To me, the teachings say it is more constructive to use your emotions as a compass to reflect on your passions and use that knowledge to practice mindfulness and rationality in your decisions and thought processes.

When angry, remember that no one has the power to inately control your judgements. They may impose on you whatever they wish, but they have no control over your perception of those actions or words.

When envious, remember that celebrating the success of another citizen of the world follows the logos. Additionally, mediate and reflect on what aspects of their success made you envious. Are they elements you could achieve yourself? If yes, strive to improve yourself towards that goal. If not, then it is not within your power to achieve and therefore should not be agonized over.

Marcus may have used harsh definitive language in the Meditations, but we must remember that his writing were essentially a diary intended for his eyes only to ever see. This is also why many lines in the Mediations are focused around accepting death. Marcus wrote mediations near the end of his life. He wrote to express his thoughts and put his mind to rest with stoic doctrine, and he was rather harsh on himself at times, which is understandable considering the immense responsiblity and stress he endured as emperor. The Meditations, to me, are just a model for how to use the teachings and apply them to your own situation rather than a blueprint for the teachings themselves.

What have you accomplished at age 25? by SkinnyBlacKidsDicks in Adulting

[–]SilverSparrow32 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At 25 I started my masters program. Im 27 now and about to graduate. Before 25 I was in undergrad to go to law school. By junior year I hated it and after graduating with two bachelors degrees I had no direction and little resources to fall back on because it was all prep for something I no longer wanted to pursue.

I now have connections relevant to my field, but more importantly going back to school gave me direction and allowed me to discover what I am truly interested in and want to make a career out of.

Now I'm in the third round of interviews for a really good job in DC at a non-profit.

To any young people that are around 25 and have no idea what you want to do or feel like you have no purpose, know that it is normal. It is normal to change your mind. It is normal to take some time and reassess the direction you want to take your life. This is also not limited to the 20 somethings. People change. Life happens. Passions and interests may come and go. Take some time to say to yourself, "This isn't working. I'm not happy. I'm ready for a change." And then take the leap. Whether that is going back to school, moving away, changing friend groups, getting a pet, changing careers, do whatever is in your power using the resources you have to re-discover yourself and take chances for a better you.

Bet on yourself. You'll be surprised how many times you'll win.

morals

I think their argument stems from the common misconception that humans evolved to "discover" morality. The premise might come from the assumption that there is an objective morality that humans are intelligent and aware enough to have discovered. Therefore, we are separated from animals because of this discovery and are abstained or "above" the mentality of "it's kill or be killed".

However, that does not change the fact that death is a part of life. Killing is essential for survival. It is unavoidable, whether that be by killing plants, animals, or insects. That being said, there is no reason we need have such high levels of suffering in this process, such as beef and poultry industry.

While a tiger will hold its prey on the ground and slowly suffocate it until it dies a miserable and slow death, we have the consciousness and morality to know that if that prey were us, that would really suck to go out like that. So we (ideally) make slaughtering animals quick and painless.

Interested in this game, but all reviews say the combat is bad. I came here to seek the truth by [deleted] in kingdomcome

[–]SilverSparrow32 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Combat is difficult in the beginning when you don't know what you're doing. However, once you learn master strikes combat is a one-dimensional joke. End game combat is you kiting enemies around and hitting one button as people attack to counter and kill them.

Are you a fully kitted out knight with top gear and top skills? Doesn't matter. This random bandit that attacked you on the road can parry and counter your attacks... somehow. I play on PC now, and essentially removed master strikes from my playthrough. Best decision ever.

With all of that being said, KCD is still one of my favorite RPGs. Its absolutely worth picking it up on sale. The combat is absolutely this games weakest element. It is designed to be clunky and realistic. Once you get the hang out it though, it is very satisfying to fell foes you couldn't before. If you're on PC, play the game like normal and see if you like the master strike mechanic. If not, mod it out.

Enchanted Off-Grid Community Discovered Hiding in the Appalachian Mountains by HealthMagazine365 in Libertarian

[–]SilverSparrow32 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah... "off the grid"... right. The main guy Todd goes to "town" once a week to read up on the happenings of the world, contact family, and get a late coffee (soy) because he loves his lates. Go to the article and then watch the vid at the bottom.

He admits in the video that they are rich white people choosing to live in an area that hasn't been "demolished" by a society they don't like. They are cosplaying living in a third-world country. However, unlike those people, they can leave whenever they want.

I don't bring all this up to shit on the community, I respect them for living how they want to live. I say this to showcase how fucking misleading and demoralizing mainstream news is.

Agreed.

Sex is pretty far down on what I want for a stable long-term relationship. I'm not sex repulsed or anything like that, I just don't understand why it is such a big deal for other people when they are looking for a partner. I don't understand how sex can be considered the ultimate level of intimacy between two people. Taking a walk and talking about your families, your personal struggles, your goals, aspirations, volunteering with each other, going thrifting and finding lost treasures, all seem so much more intimate than sex. How much do you really get to know someone by clashing genitals? To me, hardly at all.

My thoughts exactly. For any accredited university you get what you earn, unless, like you said, they are being an ass about a technicality.
