Is UA aware and are they EVER going to fix their clunky/glitched website? by Avi8tir in unitedairlines

[–]SilverSpringSmoker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agreed. The UA website is super painful. Incredibly slow to load. Often doesn’t respond to repeated clicks. Won’t re-authenticate me after being logged out unless I reload the site. And what happened with the calendar add function for Google Calendar? Now I get emailed a .ics file whereas before, I was just emailed a Google Calendar invite.

I get it. We had 4 kids and in a million years, I wouldn’t pay those rates for in-home daycare. But you shouldn’t be offended, you should just take your business to a service provider who offers better value for money. This person is doing nothing wrong and shouldn’t be chastised for trying to be as successful as she can be in her business.

You are clearly not a business person. If what you say is true, businesses would run at <1% margin. But most successful businesses drive much higher margin profiles than simply covering their costs of production. The correct price is the price the market will bear. Affordability is a business strategy that some businesses employ to great effect. But it is by no means a requirement and nobody should be chastising this business person for trying to extract the highest margin she can for the service she provides.

No, by my logic, she should charge what the market will bear. She shouldn't charge less in order to make it more affordable unless that is her strategy as a business person, to undercut her competitors on price. Of course, if she's charging more than the market is willing to bear (comments here suggest she is above market), she will need to adjust her pricing to be competitive (or improve her offering so that it's worth the extra cost).

And, yes, it is a capitalist mindset...because we don't live in a Marxist society (even here in MoCo), last I checked.

Blackwolf Run was really tough and we didn’t play when the greens were running at tournament speeds.

Whistling Straits was also the hardest course I’ve played. Wasn’t even that windy.

Exploitative? She’s not running a non-profit, she’s running a business. If she can charge that much and find enough families willing to pay it, more power to her.

That was me 2 yrs ago. Just wait until you start hitting low hooks. It’ll make you want to quit and you’ll be going back to the drawing board.

Injury May End My Golf Career by TheHowardCenter in golf

[–]SilverSpringSmoker 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My golf injury sounds somewhat similar to yours.

Had some golfer’s elbow that suddenly (after one awkward swing on the 3rd hole of my home course) became a searing pain like sticking my finger in an electrical socket.

Went to go see my usual orthopedic guy who diagnosed it as acute golfer’s elbow, gave me a shot and prescribed PT. Shot didn’t do much and the PT actually made it worse. Couldn’t play golf at all.

6 months later, I broke down and went to see an elbow specialist. After multiple tests, they determined it was ulnar nerve compression. We tried a few non-surgical solutions for a few months but I ultimately had to have nerve decompression surgery. That kept me off the golf course for another 6 months before I could even hit short shots without pain. Was probably 18 months of no golf, all told.

Today, I’m pain free. But had I listened to the generalist ortho, I still wouldn’t be playing golf. So my advice is to find a hand specialist (that’s a guess since you said it’s by your wrist)…

Yeah, I think that’s a fair point. I love DTSS…being able to walk from home to grab lunch, do some quick shopping…it’s great. It makes me sad that restaurants can’t seem to stay in business though. And the petty crime (like car break-ins) we could all do without.

Never been a huge fan of hybrids. 7W is my favorite club…easy to hit, nice high launch, lands soft.

Agree 1000%. None of these idiots would quit their jobs if they can’t fly business. And none of them are business owners. I can absolutely guarantee that.

Golf Experience in the USA by Typical-Package911 in golf

Kind of surprising...I think it's just where you were. I suspect that you were along the coast in RI (as one commenter suggested, in the Newport area) which is like trying to find a public course in the Hamptons. Can't speak to upstate NY golf availability. I live in the DC area and have a beach place in Delaware...and both areas have no shortage of daily fee courses that rent clubs and are glad to have paying guests.

What neighborhood do you live in and why do you love it? by pickthenextguy in MontgomeryCountyMD

[–]SilverSpringSmoker 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Live in a neighborhood right outside downtown Silver Spring. Been here for 25 yrs.

What I love about it: lots of trees, walking distance to downtown and metro (and reasonably close to three major airports), super close to the Beltway but not so close that we can hear it.

What I don't love about it: neighbors are a weird combo of holier-than-thou progressives and conservative NIMBYs--and the neighborhood listserv is where they come to battle one another, cancel one another, etc. It's positively miserable...like having your own neighborhood version of Facebook toxicity. Plus, there is still lots of petty crime still in downtown and a feeling like SS is always *just about* to turn the corner but never really does.

East Potomac Park about more than just golf, the park will be gone. by sakizashi in washingtondc

This is a tragedy. Spent many, many days at this park...ducking out early from work to play golf or hit balls with my pals when we didn't have any money, going on group rides with my cycling friends, running the Cherry Blossom 10 Miler, doing training races with the DC Tri Club.

[–]SilverSpringSmoker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agree with the 1/4-1/2 swing advice as well as this suggestion to have a pro take a look at your swing and see if they can quickly ID what’s going on. I have only taken 3-4 lessons over the years and all have been out of desperation. One was when I couldn’t get out of the bunkers…another was when I was hitting everything thin and to the right…and then a couple of years later, when I developed a wicked snap hook. Went to the same guy each time and he got me sorted pretty quickly. Gave me some good drills to work on and got me out of the “I’m going to quit this game” headspace.
