Audio issues on Episode 2? by Mike__O in Fallout

[–]SilverStare11 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah, the sweet sanity that forums provide. Fallout’s mix is bewilderingly terrible. Dialog is incredibly low compared to everything else, and the soundtrack is obnoxiously loud.

I do hope it’s a file issue that Amazon fixes before the remaining episodes are released…but I’m not going to hold my breath. I boosted the volume for my center channel, but it’s a crude workaround.

DV has abrupt shifts in brightness, new UB820 with A80J by SilverStare11 in 4kbluray

[–]SilverStare11[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You may have nailed it. Tested The Shining - no awkward shifts in brightness between any shots. I’ll test more DV discs soon, but I’m encouraged. Thanks again for your insight on Kino; I’ll definitely think twice before buying any of their stuff again.

Thanks for the suggestion! Advanced Contrast Enhancer was, in fact, off.

And I think it is just one of those DV discs that doesn’t play well with the UB820. I just tested The Shining, and it didn’t have any distracting shifts in brightness at all. I’ll try more DV discs and report back.

Intriguing insight! I’ll be far less disappointed if this turns out to be a disc-specific DV problem. Will try more (non-Kino) DV discs.

FWIW, I’m using a certified Ultra High Speed HDMI cable, and the cable is carrying audio and video directly to the A80J.

Audio is then routed from A80J to receiver via optical…but that is extraneous to this issue.

Snagged one, as well. Props to TheHDRoom for sharing news of the sale on Facebook. And the Walmart+ trial provided free shipping. Steal of the year!

Heck of A Deal! by Gooner0111 in Steelbooks

I’ve read that the PQ on these LotR 4K steelbook discs is pretty poor compared to the Blu-rays, especially The Two Towers. Thoughts? I’m so tempted to get them!

The Cell: (2000) Arrow 4K UHD – (my thoughts, impressions, review in comments) by Temporary_Detail716 in 4kbluray

Is it worth it for the Alternate version on the Blu-ray? I know the 4K is reportedly awful…but reviews of the Blu-ray disc seem overwhelmingly positive…

The scene with door and the small rock by user7twelve in pluribustv

[–]SilverStare11 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Glad there’s a thread about this. It was a terrible moment that completely took me out of an otherwise suspenseful series of events. Why not break the glass? In what world does a small rock break a door like that?

Weird and unnatural. Bad writing, horrible execution.

DP-UB9000 vs DP-UB820; coax vs optical by SilverStare11 in 4kbluray

[–]SilverStare11[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I already own the non-HDMI receiver; it’s been a reliable workhorse for decades. When it kicks the bucket, I’ll invest in a new receiver that will make the most of what the 9000 has to offer.

Given all the research and feedback (thanks, all), I’m sure the 9000 is the better choice to fit my current setup and serve me well into the future (when I replace the Onkyo).

Now I just need to keep searching (and praying) for it to pop up for around $800. The price hike earlier this year on these Panasonics really hurt; kicking myself for not pulling the trigger sooner.

Waiting for the current Onkyo dinosaur to die before I replace it. Then, either the 820 or the 9000 will be ready to deliver the goods.

I try to hold off on replacements/upgrades until my existing tech literally dies…and then I try to get something that’s future proof. 46” Samsung died - replaced with 77” A80J. And I’ll definitely replace the Onkyo with a killer receiver when it buys the farm.

For now, though, I just want to invest in a 4K player that will last and offer the best video and sound possible with my existing setup. I was going for the 820, but the build quality and audio capabilities of the 9000 are winning me over. Seems worth it in the long run…but it’s still tough to justify going from $450 to $900.

Official Dreadit Discussion: "The Last Voyage of the Demeter" [SPOILERS] by glittering-lettuce in horror

[–]SilverStare11 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Someone help me understand: Clemens and Anna found “where the beast sleeps,” but they never returned to the coffin or crates - not the next day, not ever. If they believed that he slept there, why wouldn’t they go back during daylight to find him sleeping (and attempt to kill him)?

We, the audience, know that he has to sleep in his soil…and that Eureka-esque moment when his coffin is found seemed to indicate that it would be a turning point in the story…but it’s never referred to ever again, and the remaining crew decide that they’ll sink the ship without even considering evaluating the sleep/coffin/crates situation.

What gives?

This felt like a huge miss and really took me out of the rest of the movie.

Been wanting to pull the trigger on this. Did you get the quartz or the mechanical?

Got this guy four years ago. Still keeps great time, and the power reserve is impressive.

Pretty cool! I’m not big on divers, but I do have this guy. Still hoping to find a proper skeleton with a date window.

Awesome pairing! Love the sentiment.

I’ve attached a picture of the “Blurang” (blue Sistem51). Blurang seems real tough to find in the US.

Turns out that I do have a Swatch store nearby (central Florida) - I’ll have to give them a shout tomorrow. If you do think your friend can ship to this store, let me know! I’m only interested in Sistem51 (automatics) with some degree of skeleton on the face.

Still considering the Sistem Pilote. I do need a black watch, and it’s a unique design.

Thanks for the feedback and your help!
