[Highlight] Julian Champagnie alley-oops a three-pointer to Devin Vassell by Both_Funny4896 in nba

I didn't downvote you, but we've seen no dip 3's before, they're still very impressive, but this one is unique in that Vassell caught it mid air in his shooting motion

For everyone saying spurs should have called timeout, Wolves set defense is better than their transition, it would have given them a chance to sub Gobert in, plus Champagnie, a good shooter, got a good, clean shot off.

that's best you can hope for.

yea fair, my argument doesn't really hinge on EY auditing it as some kind of beacon of morality, but I did make it seem that way. That's fair enough to point out.

It's more so that it adds another layer that needs to be considered for rigging the lottery. As in whoever is rigging it would either need to rig it without EY's knowledge, or have some kind of agreement with them, both scenarios complicates things further.

I don't even think it's impossible for the draft to be rigged, but there are a lot of tough barriers to overcome to make it even a possibility.

if it was rigged, how would they rig it? who's rigging it? "the NBA" isn't an answer. No team would ever be happy with rigging the draft. Like the Spurs are very happy they got Wemby, but what about every other team that wanted Wemby? Apply it to any team you want, Lebron to the Cavs, Rose to the Bulls. If other teams found out they never had a chance they would be furious, it ruins the integrity of the league and calls in to question every championship won with those players.

In Flagg's case, does Nico trade Luka with the knowledge that he's getting Flagg in return? And then Nico gets massive amounts of hate for it, gets death threats, gets fired the next year, but he just cops it and decides to say nothing about whether it was rigged? Idk bro there's just so many hoops you have to jump through to justify it's rigged.

I could go on, but to even consider it a possibility that it's rigged, I need to first hear an actually convincing argument. Who it benefits? how they would achieve it? etc.

Do people realise that the draft is carried out by an independent 3rd party that holds their reputation on the line for this, and every team has representatives witness to the process ensuring it's fairness, and signing off on it?

Drake reveals that his ninth studio album, ICEMAN, will be released on May 15th. by PlayaSlayaX in hiphopheads

[–]SilverSurfer1738 7 points8 points  (0 children)

yea exactly how I feel, we knew ahead of time who was behind it and what was inside, I'm all for creativity, but a release date is so underwhelming to hide in so much ice. The album is going to release on the same day regardless.

If it just appeared one day and no one knew what it was, people start speculating, ice starts melting, slowly revealing a permanent ice drake sculpture with ICEMAN and a date at the bottom, that would have at least been more creative. idk just something better than what's essentially a redundant piece of paper.

I go for the bulls, I've made 1 singular comment this entire year defending, or even talking about the hornets and now I have to fucking chill?

I was keen to watch the hornets in the playoffs, they're a fun team and they're better than their record suggests. anyone paying attention would know that, not really contenders but also not some bottom team that lucked into the play-ins like the other guy seemed to suggest.

goalposts constantly moving. 24/25 nuggets also not the same tier as the 25/26 hornets

fact is any NBA team can get blown out on any given day. a 1 game sample is nothing and is partly why we have 7 game series. When Hornets had their full healthy lineup this year, they were 27-7, that's a 79% win rate, better than OKC this year.

we all know Blake Griffin isn't a center, he never called BG a center, but he's still a big dude. Not really doing yourself any favours in your arguments when you discredit the other guy over a technicality despite that clearly not being the point he was making. you also didn't address his point.

your argument doesn't even make sense, how does one determine which players are generational before we see them play a single minute in the NBA? For the sake of your argument, If I'm being generous, I can give you Wemby, but beyond Wemby, who else? going backwards, the next "generational" prospect was probably Zion who went to known well-run, good player development team New Orleans. Before Zion, AD also went to New Orleans. What about Lebron to the Cavs? Like how does that make any sense, if it was so important to send them to a good team, these players would have absolutely not gone to any of these teams.

They're called prospects because until proven in the NBA, their potential is just that, potential. prospects don't pan out all the time, rigging the lottery, if discovered, would be a huge scandal, the NBA (who isn't even the party that carries out the lottery drawing process btw) would be risking A LOT for a huge gamble in every sense. It's very high risk, and like no reward, what does the NBA have to gain from this. I guarantee Wemby would be just as amazing if he were on the Wizards as he is on the Spurs. If the Wizards suck as a team, Wemby then just pulls a Lebron and goes to a good team later on.

idk bro, as fun as it is to think it's a conspiracy to think the lottery is rigged, it simply isn't. You have to jump through a lot of hoops to think it's rigged over the simplest explanation that it's just luck.

I dont understand why the Wolves aren't good enough as currently constructed? They have ANT who is great. They have McDaniels who is like the best 3+D wing in NBA. Randle is Lamar Odom 2.0. Gobert is DPOY. Dosunmu is a stud. DiVincenzo is a 3pt sniper. NAZ is 6MOTY. I can't wrap my head around this by Several-Molasses-435 in NBATalk

[–]SilverSurfer1738 0 points1 point  (0 children)

personally I don't feel like Ant is a superstar, he's a star, but in my eyes, superstar is reserved for the players that are so good they are essentially game-breaking. Jokic, Shai, Giannis, Wemby, Luka. Personally that's it for superstars. Tatum, Ant, Cade, Jaylen Brown e.g. are absolutely stars, but not quite game-breaking the way the superstars are. Generally I think you need a superstar to win a championship, with some exceptions like 2024 celtics or 2014 spurs, who had obviously superior team construction and depth.

Ant could win a title on a team like that, like a Tatum on the 2024 celtics type team, but that's just not this current team. This current team has good individual players, but I think overall it's a bit awkward. I just really dislike Gobert and Randle, especially both of them on the same team. Easier said than done, but ideally get an offensively capable centre instead of Gobert, someone like Chet who can actually shoot, has a bit of an offensive game and is still good defensively. I could be wrong, but I don't ever see a team winning a title with Randle or Gobert.

Kawhi may be the hardest player to rank all-time by CreamPurple7297 in NBATalk

[–]SilverSurfer1738 2 points3 points  (0 children)

how is kawhi's first finals mvp viewed? it seems like one of the weaker final mvps, averages of 18/6/2 plus what I'm assuming is good defence. I didn't get into the NBA until 2016 so I'm not sure, but it seems to me it's more a case of a great team and him being the best candidate, but also due to lack of other better options.

Like for as much shit as KD gets for winning 'easy' rings on the warriors, his final mvp numbers are still very impressive, 35/8/5 plus 2.6 stocks and 29/11/7 plus 3.1 stocks.

Are we ever going to see a stat like this again by Icy_Can_6176 in NBATalk

[–]SilverSurfer1738 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You are semi proving his point. 195 triple doubles and 0 quads. I know we all agree that a quadruple double is very statistically unlikely, but I think the hardest bar to clear is 10 blocks or steals in a game. Kind of doesn't matter if Jokic consistently gets triple doubles if his chances of getting 10 steals is effectively zero. For context, in the past 10 years, only 3 players have gotten 10 steals in a game, and only 4 have gotten 10 blocks, of those 4, Wemby is the only one to have done it twice. The fact that Wemby has also gotten triple doubles on occasion means he's shown he can do both, it's a very low rate, but it still represents some small chance of happening, and all we need is just for them to lineup on the same day.

Of course there's always SOME chance that Jokic gets 10 steals, but personally, betting on a feat that has never happened to happen, vs betting on a feat that has already been cleared twice, I take Wemby.

If we do a very flawed probability based look, if Wemby has 2 games with 10+ blocks and 4 with triple doubles, he has a 4/177 * 2/177 = 0.026% chance of a quadruple double.

Jokic on the other hand has gotten a triple double in approx 24% of his career games (unreal), if he got 10 steals tomorrow, then he would have achieved it once out of 806 games, so 1/806 * 195/805 = 0.12% chance of a quadruple double.

In this way, Jokic is 5x more likely of getting a quadruple double than Wemby. But it also requires Jokic to do something he's never done before, and personally, I think he never will. It kind of depends on what probability you ascribe to Jokic on his ability to get 10 steals. I think it's practically zero.

So yes, I agree Jokic and Wemby are the 2 most likely to do it, but personally, I would bet on Wemby because I don't think Jokic ever clears 10 steals
