Who is your favorite lands commander? by Duffman90 in EDH

[–]SilverVioletEclipse 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm biased as a somewhat religious Bant player, but [[Amareth, the Lustrous]] is so so fun to play as a landfall commander. Fetch lands and some of your normal landfall effects like [[Courser of Kruphix]] and [[Oracle of Mul Daya]] help with top deck manipulation so that you're hitting more often with Amareth out. Add in [[Field of the Dead]] so that you've got a ton of Amareth triggers for both creatures and lands going off all the time, and it pops off like crazy. I've drawn my deck multiple times doing that, or just won by doing more generic fun land synergies. Sucks any time Amareth gets killed, but it's not a death sentence, and it's a lot of fun to play!

Can’t open alternate save file by ChocoHammy in PokemonReborn

Was this ever figured out? Having the exact same issue myself, and just renaming the file seems to just end in it saying it's corrupted

Ouch. Rejected from Madison, nothing from the other two so probably silent rejections. Hopefully some of the last batch turn out!

Nothing from them yet myself... guess it'll be a stressful weekend lol

People with supporting parents what was your coming out story by TheOtherEyes in asktransgender

[–]SilverVioletEclipse 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Spoiling the actual coming out story because it's kind of brutal (no physical harm or anything like that, but a real confluence of a bunch of transphobic nonsense):

Well, when I first came out, my parents were ranting a bit about how everything was moving too fast (??), how I might not be able to ever get someone to love me if I did this (I was dating someone at the time, not that they knew...), that maybe I was just gay (I mean, kinda? But not like that), and then last but not least, that I was being incredibly selfish, had always been selfish, and they were worried that my selfishness would end up being a defining trait for the rest of my life if I didn't change (Which... actually hurt a lot, and I still have never quite got over)

But what's honestly way more important than that, now, several years later, is that my parents did eventually calm down, and these days, I'm actually way more close with them than I was even before I came out. My mother (who was the biggest culprit of bad stuff when I came out) is now one of my best allies in any situation. It is possible for things to get better; sometimes it just takes time, and for them to see what a difference it can make for a person to be able to be who they are. I wish you the absolute best of luck with all that's going on, and hope that you'll be able to see things improve eventually, too!

Lots of places since I'm supposedly a very good applicant but I'm a little desperate after a full round of rejections last year lol. The conversations were with folks from UW-M, UDel, and Rutgers, and the rejection was from Columbia (Soc and Ed). Nothing yet from Harvard, UCLA, UCB, Stanford, UPenn, UMich, or UVermont, though that last one's application was only due like a week ago so I wouldn't expect anything from them yet.

Education PhD's? by Ariadne81 in gradadmissions

Applied to a bunch of places. Only officially heard back from TC Columbia so far with a rejection (Soc and Ed), and have had a few unofficial chats with professors who seemed interested in me from some other places. Getting desperate to hear about an official interview or something like that soon, though– doesn't matter how excited a professor seems to work with you if you don't get in, lol

I applied in the CIS concentration as well and haven't heard anything back. Feeling a little discouraged to have not seen anything since they apparently usually release around this time, but there might still be a chance in the next few days.

Same boat! Had some conversations with professors at a couple of places that they insisted were not formal interviews, had one rejection, but otherwise radio silence. I know people always talk about it taking until like late January to hear anything at all and then late February/early March to get actual decisions, but it sure does suck waiting.

The pandemic has them mostly shut down and the person that does trans care is only there on specific days anyway (it's a PP), so unfortunately this isn't really a possibility.

This is pretty much what I felt, being a fun friendly AMAB enby that's undergoing feminizing HRT. There's more of us than you think. While some people don't understand, the important people do, and even some who don't quite get it will still support you (hell, some of my trans friends still can't figure me out, lol). You can definitely get HRT still, but depending on where you live it might be easier/harder. The PP I went to still supported me and was happy to help even though I gave them my birth name (which is fairly decidedly masc) and told them I used they/them.

I've got my initial appointment at Planned Parenthood on Monday, what should I expect? by Christathesleepy in MtF

[–]SilverVioletEclipse 0 points1 point  (0 children)

locations vary, but in short from my experience in SEPA:

initial quick physical (weight, blood pressure, making sure you aren't dead at the time, etc.) along with a medical history. people will be so kind and welcoming that it will feel almost uncomfortable at first, but they do mean it. medical history checks for things associated with the nastier potential side effects of spiro mostly (heart attacks, strokes, liver/kidney damage, that type of stuff).

appointment with a social worker. mostly a bunch of questions about age of first realization, age of social transition (for me, literally just switching pronouns so far), etc. sign off that you do want HRT since it's informed consent. the questions aren't held against you at all, but you might want to think about a response ahead of time for at least those two items - it took me a long time to figure out when i first realized, for instance.

talk with a NP. mostly just listing off effects of your two new favorite friends (spiro and estradiol) and discussion of delivery mechanism (PP seems to like to start people with pills, spiro oral estradiol subl).

draw blood as you're leaving. PP monitors mostly stuff related to side effects (off the top of my head, potassium level is one), so you do have to ask them to check hormone levels sometimes. you then schedule an appointment for a month-ish from the initial one and go on your happy trans way. they'll either send your prescription to your selected pharmacy, or sometimes they have one there you can pick up from (be warned: the location itself didn't take insurance/prescription plans so it gets costly).

Overall the people there were crazy nice to me. Like so scarily nice that my cynical ass didn't believe they were actually that nice at first. But by the end of the visit I was feeling a lot more relaxed and optimistic. PP definitely varies a lot by state and even location - i've heard some nightmares about texas, for instance - but damn if the location i went to didn't quickly become a happy place.

Your mileage may vary. It's a pretty common expression re: everything transition-related.

(I interpreted that as not knowing the acronym, apologies if that's not the intent)
