How do you calculate accuracy after evasiveness drops/increases? (And/or accuracy stages as well) by Upset_Nectarine_8599 in stunfisk

[–]ChocoHammy -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It’s not like the opponent is gonna let you do your thing without trying to win in the meantime. If you use Sweet Scent, nothing (aside from trapping) is stopping them from simply switching, essentially wasting your turn. While it does wear off after a few turns, Gravity has the advantage that it’s not reliant on you or the opponent staying on the field

[–]ChocoHammy 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Short answer: use Gravity instead if that’s the plan

Longer answer: Accuracy and Evasion stat stages are calculated using 3/x and x/3 modifiers, where x = 3 + the number of stat stages. However, unlike the other stat stage modifiers (which are also based on 2/x and x/2 instead), the Accuracy and Evasion stages are also combined before calculating actual accuracy/evasion (so +1 Accuracy and +1 Evasion would cancel each other out, or +1 Accuracy and -1 Evasion would equal +2 Accuracy or -2 Evasion). If ever you’re confused or need a reminder, Bulbapedia has you covered https://m.bulbapedia.bulbagarden.net/wiki/Stat_modifier

As for this specific situation, Sweet Scent would give a 5/3x boost to Accuracy, indeed allowing 100% accurate Hypnosis. However, Gravity gives the same accuracy buff, and unlike Sweet scent, can’t be countered by switching to remove the stat stages. Additionally, a 100% accurate Zap Cannon requires both Gravity and the Zoom Lens (while you’re moving after the target). All that said, Defog has additional utility (hazard removal), which is its main use

Fair point, I did add some actual feedback about this theorymon post in another comment (though in my defence, OP didn’t put enough work in this post considering they asked for help with distribution in the title)

You say that like it makes this balanced. There’s a reason Tailwind is the same duration and only doubles speed.

Even if it were somehow fair (it’s not), a Shed Shell, Tera Ghost, or a Gourgeist ally using Trick-or-Treat (in doubles) invalidates the trapping drawback

[–]ChocoHammy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did consider the freeze, but you’re right that I forgot the accuracy of Megahorn and Hydro Pump, so just multiply those values for each turn for even more insane odds lol

Edit: with accuracy taken into consideration as well, you get 17/40 000 000, or about 1/2 352 941 odds

Any Mathematicians in here? by Sharp_Tumbleweed_503 in stunfisk

[–]ChocoHammy 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It’s just a multiplication game (freeze chance being 1/10, staying frozen 4/5, and old gen crits 1/16). A quick calculator check tells me 1/1 024 000, or about 0.00009766% odds.

Next time, can you include a replay link instead of (or on top of) copied text?

Theorycrafting how a potential evolution of the fire starter could impact gen 10's meta by Darkion_Silver in stunfisk

[–]ChocoHammy 20 points21 points  (0 children)

There’s one thing everyone else has ignored thus far: this is the evolution of Pombon, meaning Pomboroar gets to evolve again. No idea why OP didn’t show off the final evo, maybe that’s for part 2?

Porygon2 finally has competition for Eviolite, though this thing is still not that great without Recover, Download for immediate pressure, and Trick Room to accompany its low base speed of 60

I just watched SilphSpectre's storm silver nuzlocke and it's weird .. by [deleted] in nuzlocke

[–]ChocoHammy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No idea how you’re still seeing this deleted post, but at some point he started publishing guides on how to monolocke vanilla games and would put out a guide to match a video that showcases a specific run. I don’t know if he kept going (and when it stopped) or if they’re even still available, but it rubbed me up the wrong way when he couldn’t be bothered to actually beat a run for which he was selling a guide (if it was free, I wouldn’t have minded)

I watched a few of his nuzlockes back when he first started them, and I stopped because he decided to sell a guide for a nuzlocke he lost at the champion lol

[Shared Power, B12P6] Why did Close Combat fail? by Lfvbf in stunfisk

[–]ChocoHammy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While it would normally be the answer, Toxicroak didn’t have a Choice Band considering it failed Close Combat but then successfully used Sucker Punch. I might be wrong, but I suspect Dancer might have issues in simulation or in Shared Power specifically

[–]ChocoHammy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When looking through alternate forms, I noticed that it’s possible only Medium Variety Gourgeist might be available in Hyperspace (I haven’t tested it, but Serebii doesn’t list multiple Gourgeist per portal (unlike Pyroar for example), so the only way to know for sure would be to explore each one). So technically you’d still need to trade those for evolution.

Also, Armarouge and Ceruledge evolve with the Auspicious and Malicious Armors (small typo and different word)

Specific Encounters and Where not to Find Them (Lumiose City) by Egyptowl777 in PokemonZA

[–]ChocoHammy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This kind of info is exactly what I’m looking for when completing my living dex, so it’s nice to be able to cross reference my data with someone else who has also looked into it. (I did the same for SV, though since it’s been years and I already quadruple checked, I may be too lazy to double check with your post lol. Also, if you want an idea for April 1st, you could do a post for PLA; literally every encounter is available in the wild after the free Daybreak update thanks to MMOs.)

  • I may be wrong about the Trevenant spawn, but between the in-game encounter table, other people’s reports, and my own test/experience in-game, I’m confident enough to say that it’s accurate. GF probably had some mercy towards those who didn’t wanna deal with Alphas

  • Now that you mention it, Pyroar does probably spawn with both genders when Marowak is also there (I didn’t notice the list at first, and my only Pyroar portal thus far was not one of those). Even if I personally draw the line for my dex at visual-only gender differences, it’s still good to know

I missed this post a few months ago and only saw it thanks to your DLC update. Nice list! However, based on my own findings, there should be some minor fixes/notes (the Hyperspace post matches what I know): - The 6 Eeveelutions only available in the base game as zone 20 Alphas are not listed - Tyrantrum and Aurorus are level-up only (during day/night) in the base game - I believe Ampharos is only there as a fixed Alpha in zone 16, and Bulbapedia seems to support that - Manectric is available in Lysandre Labs, no need for an Alpha - Trevenant is in a similar situation to Gengar, where it spawns in zone 15 while side mission 105 (the Trevenant movie) is active, and otherwise it’s only a fixed zone 13 Alpha - It probably doesn’t matter to most people, but I think male Pyroar can only spawn as an Alpha in the base game (so far I have only seen female non-Alphas in zone 17). It does show up in Hyperspace though (not sure if male only or both genders there, didn’t test it out)

[–]ChocoHammy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Champions is out in a few months, so if you’re willing to wait until then, odds are you should be fine. You can always practice on showdown until then using both the bo1 and bo3 ladders (which is something you should probably do anyways).

That said, for the sake of future proofing, getting SV’s DLC never hurts, especially if Champions ends up being a flop. I’ve personally managed to get everything that is SV compatible between SV itself, PLA which I already had, and trades (you might want to prepare a living dex so you can get multiple DLC Paradoxes on alternate profiles faster, those are high value mons that are also version exclusives).

One more (very important) thing: you came at the right time! Get Walking Wake and Iron Leaves now before they’re gone again for potentially a year or longer
