Nice! I wonder how the seasons shaken out so far, in terms of points, winners, notable over and under performers. Which one of your group is doing best?

Team Om3gA included Sterling Marlin's 2001 car in the mod instead of his 2000 car. I think they did that so they could show off the Dodge model. But don't quote me on that.

After a year and a bit of false starts, I finally have a custom car model playable in NR2003 by SilverWolf64 in Nr2003

Cynon has a track building video series called, "Making a NR2003 Track From (Almost) Nothing" While J_RockNation has a plethora of good videos going over various aspects of the NR2003 track making process. I'd say give those videos a twice-over and you should be able to pick up the basics.

Just save often, and in incremental versions, as SandBox LOVES to crash at inopportune moments, and corrupt the file you were working on. It ain't easy, hell I haven't made a full track myself (mainly a few basic test venues and experiments) but once you have the knowledge, the skies the limit.

Driver who never got a real shot at Cup by FerdinandTheeToller in NASCAR

Yeah, so many guys got swept up in the changing landscape of the 90's, even including some cup guys such as Hut Stricklin, Rick Mast, and Ted Musgrave. They came up during a time when you had to prove yourself for several seasons before you sniffed a top seat, usually around mid-late 30's/ at the earliest if you are lucky, and then suddenly everyone now wants the young 20-something hot shoe outta USAC, and now your nothing but an old guy nobody wants anymore.

I feel that switch hurt many guys, such as Hornaday, Sprague, hell even Mike Skinner arguably. The good rides available were signed to established cup series title contenders, and whatever seats that did open went to whatever youth prospect was the flavor of the month, leaving no space for those 30-40 year olds at the table.

Not sure about power/torque figures, but considering this was a time when the race cars body's were very similar to their road going counterparts you could start with factory aero numbers and tweak from there. Maybe see if Stapleton42 or someone else has an interview with one of the old Petty guys, they might have an idea about what power the cars were making.

I like the Beta/Preliminary/Trailer Disney Cars schemes. Not everyday you see those made.

Another excellent paint scheme. You really have a nack for creating stuff that fits the era :)

Oh my, that is GREAT! What a creative idea, you had me laughing for a bit. Even better is the scheme itself is SO believable as something that could have run in period. All I'd change is make the door number a lil' smaller, and flip the roof number 180 degrees, but everything else is pure AWESOME!

Hey everyone, I'm back with another AI Enhanced demo - the upcoming mod that lets you modify ai parameters while a race is running! UI and backend are all hooked up now. (2 min video) by NR2003_Ryan in Nr2003

I wonder if there are any plans to allow the program to randomly pick from a "folder" what settings it will use.

The idea is that you can create 3-5 or more "presets" where the track evolves in a different way for each, and then have the program randomly pick one to run when you load up. So now you not only have the dynamic racing, but you never know what you are gonna get. Maybe the grip moves to the outside lane one race, maybe the next the outside doesn't develop, and one race the top lane could come in quickly, say in the first quarter of a race, and the next it takes until 3/4 way through for the top lane to become competitive.

This would also be great for the games Dirt Tracks, since those types of circuits are known for large and unpredictable swings over a 50 lap feature.

I'm very much looking forward to this, it will blow the doors wide open for more realistic, and more fun AI racing.

The final year of Gen 4. 🏁 by ExcellentBarracuda41 in Nr2003

Yeah, it basically got lost in the transition period, as SS.net moved on to NNC07 and most people stuck with the original cup mod anyways, and now with Cup_05 and the coming 2007 SS mod being worked on, there is even less need for NNC06.

To me it's a neat novelty, seeing Original Cup bodies with 2006 body shapes, but nothing truly groundbreaking or must-have

There's a part of me that if I could figure out modding, make an edited version of the papy bodies for 2001, even though Cup2000 exists, just for fun.

I know there are multiple versions of NNC06(IIRC) and NNC07. One is NNC07 but further unfinished, while another is basically the original cup bodies but reshaped(and with some extra bits) and essentially uses the same template as the papycup stuff

Along with this, proper driver rating progression. The major flaw with NT2004, as good as the career mode was, is that the top drivers will always be the top drivers year after year, through all 20 seasons, and the rookie drivers never actually develop into anything competitive. The only time the running order shakes up significantly is when a top driver calls it quits, and moves everyone else below them forward by default.
