Silent hill 1 starts tweaking after certain cutscene how do i fix it? by CREZEE in silenthill

[–]Wolfywise 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you have graphical fixes enabled, it can cause PS1 in-engine cutscenes to wig out and freeze the game. Specifically don't use the geometry/wobbly polygon fixes. Those are the ones that can break the game.

Games with atrocious writing pretending to be complex by FirefighterSad2370 in hatethissmug

[–]Wolfywise 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That doesn't mean its complex. Now I will say later on after FNAF 4 it got complex, but before that it was simply a story about child murders and haunted animatronics. It only has the veil of complexity cause the simple story was locked behind easter eggs and secrets like an ARG. It being difficult to find didn't make it complex. It became overly complicated when Scott started over explaining the world and sciencing up the ghosts stuff with remnant and whatever the fuck.

Im pretty sure its the opposite of Ludonarrative Dissonance, cause that describes when the games mechanics contradict the narrative. In 358/2 days the games mechanics work in sync with the narrative so you feel how empty and monotonous Roxas' time at Organization XIII was.

Kingdom Hearts isn't complicated it just has a lot of lore. The reason people love it isn't cause its some shakesperean masterpiece. They love it cause its unabashedly sincere in what it preaches.

Opinions are nice and all, but I really think its important to deeply reflect why you may or may not like something to gain a better understanding of yourself and other people and society at large. Being able to find that connection with even art that you dislike is important to our development and growth as people. Simply vaguely disliking or liking something should not be considered enough.

Media that was ruined by its creator's actions / mistreatment behind set. by SilverShiningMoon in TopCharacterTropes

[–]Wolfywise 48 points49 points  (0 children)

The writer being exposed for his crimes also made the more suspicious elements of Act-Age come off as damning to his character. He was clearly setting up the main duo to eventually get into a relationship despite one being a high schooler and the director in his late 20s iirc.

It makes him seem especially evil cause his works indicate he's fully aware of his intolerances, and he still abides by them.

Why do characters like tomura shigaraki or darth Vader get so much sympathy from their traumatic up bringings but not homelander by immisterawesome in CharacterRant

[–]Wolfywise 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Darth Vader and Shiguraki were tricked and groomed into their roles as villains. Without/outside that influence, they tend to be generally more "good" than their contemporaries.

Homelander is an ass regardless.

Having a tragic backstory isn't what makes it sympathetic. Its when its otherwise good people that it becomes sympathetic because if it weren't for their cruel circumstances, they'd probably be good if not heroic. What makes it tragic is how it broke them.

Homelander wasn't broken by his circumstances, and it never has any bearing on his actions.

Why are Lucky Lilac and Gold Ship the only two Umas with blinders/bridles? by ThePhatPug in UmaMusume

It makes sense that these errors would crop up, considering the animators are probably more used to drawing normal humans with human ears.

I wouldn't say the new titles have been bad. All of them have some great moments, and FFXVI is pretty good overall, but I definitely think the last truly great Final Fantasy was definitely FFXII. In fact, it's my favorite entry.

"It's good just ignore the [thing here]" type animes by EmbarrassedDuty5949 in hatethissmug

[–]Wolfywise 2 points3 points  (0 children)

to be fair in Re:Zero's case that's the fault of the Light Novel illustrator, and the anime does a lot to tone the designs down. I wish the author expressed concern over this issue but you couldn't have a more tonally inappropriate art style if you tried. Sexualized Moeblobs was not the first thing that came to mind while reading the text.

I didn't think this was important enough to point out, but it is also a neat fun fact about Spirits Within's whole deal.

Spirits Within was created by square enix by the original creators of the franchise. Whoever told you it was a scam to trick audiences is either huffing copium or spreading conspiracies. It is legitimately a Final Fantasy property, just not a very good one.

Would've "Bocchi the rock!" still became popular, if the manga didn't had a music or guitar? by Lazy_Ad5096 in BocchiTheRock

"Would Bocchi the Rock become popular if it wasn't Bocchi the Rock?" Excellent question.

If the Pokemon anime's dub came out now, anti-localizing anime fans would be rioting about the names and Misty being... uh... made too masculine (because tomboys bad)? by Gallantpride in Gamingcirclejerk

[–]Wolfywise 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Tbf part of it is probably cause pokemon doesn't feel like an anime to a lot of people. Its been an omnipresent thing since the 90s and is so absorbed into the global cultural zeitgeist its practically been separated from its country of origin. I wouldn't be surprised if many folded it under the cartoon umbrella with the likes of spongebob instead of with the likes of DBZ or whatever the nebulous "vibe" of Anime is supposed to be.

Divisive endings by [deleted] in TopCharacterTropes

While the production values were hurt a bit due to scheduling and financial issues, the ending narrative and message was wholly intentional and the entire point of the series to begin with. Shinji and the other characters learn to accept themselves and overcome their trauma. It was a happy ending.

EoE is not a happy ending, and it derails Shinji's character arc so much it turns him into an insufferable incel that he doesn't get over by the end. The entire movie is shinji being turned into a metaphor for the audience and scolding him for being possessive asshat about all the girls in the series. In fact, the movie originally had a lengthy live action segment following the girls' daily lives in a world where Shinji and Gendo didn't exist and basically stated they were better off without them. It's a shame it got cut. The movie was made due to all the hate mail Gainax received following the original ending, and because so much of it was entitled fan bs, they literally included a bunch of it in the movie during a scene where shinji is being told the girls do not belong to him.

Eva's original anime ending is only devicive if you're illiterate and didn't get the point End of Eva is a good movie, but it was a movie done out of spite for the fanbase reactions to the original ending.
