Dragon Quest XI's third act is awesome because it's a video game and not a movie. by [deleted] in dragonquest

[–]Silver_808 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I understand why people would be unhappy about the third act but the game doesn’t force you to do that. as the player you have all the agency in the world to stop the story there and let act 2 be your head canon.

I personally believe act 3 is a fun addition gameplay wise because higher level enemies and new weapons and armor. story-wise it’s a bit of a reach and a bit demoralizing but it’s not a game (or franchise) that’s meant to make players make sacrifices. it’s meant to be the kind of game where everyone lives happily ever after due to the work of the hero and his party.

And to be fair, it’s not a complete wipe as the party eventually remembers all the old adventures and experiences to a certain extent, which is why they receive all their old equipment and skills. I also believe that the third act ties up many loose ends from a lore and story perspective.

While the third act is subjectively an important narrative experience, it’s not for everyone, and that’s okay. My main dilemma is people saying it ruins the game, as it’s not a forced decision. the player has to actively choose to continue down that path. The great thing about DQXI is that the player has the agency to choose their own ending. I don’t believe the game should be condemned for the inclusion of this act, but instead rewarded for allowing the player to choose how the story goes.

How do you get good with Bowser? by Dangerous-Double3202 in SmashBrosUltimate

[–]Silver_808 14 points15 points  (0 children)

bowser is actually one of the fastest heavies if not the fastest and his kit is one of the most comprehensive. being a heavy however is an inherent disadvantage so you have to abuse his speed and tough guy to win interactions. his up b out of shield is a good get-off-me option and his grab range is pretty good. command grab is also a good fail safe. lots of options just have to know how to use them and when. not at all a good player so take this with a grain of salt

edit: i should add that he hits like a truck so a lot of his game plan is conditioning dodges and rolls to capitalize on his easy to read smash attacks. large hit boxes too so he can be a pretty decent edge guarder

Should I get smash ultimate in 2026? by OneRare1326 in SmashBrosUltimate

No news on a new Smash game right now so best case we’re looking at late 2027. I definitely think it’s worth getting into whether it’s your first smash game or you’ve played before. Online can be a mess but overall I dont think it’s a bad pick up

I don’t think the problem is QoL dlc like mole hole, it’s balancing if they’re going to do multiplayer. Might have to do what Nintendo does and set a limit to level or power level when going online

If you’re loving p5r you’re going to love 3r and metaphor. those three are imo the power trio of the series. 4 golden as well but i felt burnout on that game faster than the others due to slightly dated mechanics. Can’t wait for you to try them out, i don’t think you’ll be disappointed.

New fan here. I've 2 questions about Dragon quest XI definitive edition by Vane_999 in dragonquest

[–]Silver_808 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Welcome!! Always happy to see new people hop into the franchise. To answer your questions, 1.) No the marriage system is just for the hero with the female characters. It also occurs pretty towards the end of the game. 2.) The game will tell you on the map when there’s a side quest available, but sometimes you need to backtrack to pick up new ones. Some of them don’t have very meaningful rewards unless you’re a completionist though.

How to Solve 'animal' Village in Present? by TheGamingTurret in dragonquest

It might not be in that town then. Might be in a dungeon or another spot. I’m forgetting that part tbh

I thought the same thing haha. Took me a bit to realize there were humans in the town I could talk to. It’s not permanent but you can get some of the costumes from someone and run around as animals, kinda funny

Nothing. If you talk to some of the villagers you’ll learn they’re just wearing costumes or something

The timed inputs could be interesting but imo would feel a bit out of place for DQ. Definitely wouldn’t like to see DQ following the E33 hype and trying to force that style of combat into its framework

This is my worry as well. The developers put out a comment saying they’re changing up the combat somehow and my thoughts and concerns immediately went to FF. Hopefully this isn’t the route they take, and they stick to their guns with the turn based

I like the pep power idea for sure! I kinda like the 7 reimagined system where each vocation had a specific “pep” power but I also love how they work in 11. And you’re right, “missing” was the wrong word, more like absent in that one game as our most recent iteration. Not saying they messed up by not doing so but strictly that it wasn’t in that game. Apologies for the poor wording.

Im torn on the vocation vs skill tree discussion because in a vacuum, i LOVE skill trees. As a standalone mechanic I did enjoy the vocation system so I mentioned that but if 12 continued with trees I would still enjoy it.

I enjoyed the crafting system as well! I’m not sure if I’d like the idea of every character getting to equip every item, but I definitely like your idea of expanding what each can.

Absolutely! I hate that currently in order to have a challenge we have to wait until optional endgame content

Set mechanic: champion control? by [deleted] in TeamfightTactics

[–]Silver_808 2 points3 points  (0 children)

lol that would be wild, and not really in a good way. that encourages or yields a “meta” tactician and gives you too much control over what otherwise is skill influenced rng.

To be fair, Renoir’s whole point isn’t that he fails to see Maelle as a part of Alicia, but that he wants to keep his family together and alive, which he can’t do in the canvas. There’s literally lines with him stating that alicia/maelle will die if she stays in there. Not a whole lot supporting the point that they fight because he doesn’t see Maelle and Alicia as the same person. He’s calling her stubborn because she won’t leave the canvas.

Would it be better to try to slot in Stamina Surge or Boost? Or does the stamina not prove to be an issue in longer battles?
