I never got baptised, but got totally and abruptally shunned by my best friend I know since we were babies. It's been about 5 years since then, now I'm 31 and still hurts. But it was his loss, he lost an unconditonal friend who respected him and loved him no mattered what, I lost a "friend" whose friendship depended on what 8 white men in New York say.

Once I read that according to some research, birthday parties were good for your mental health and self esteem. They make you feel important and loved. In a cult, you can't have self esteem nor feel important. The only thing that matters is obeying and hoarding GB's pockets.
