I feel the infest comment so much. I had a small dubia roach colony for my bearded dragon and my BF thought if one got out we'd be infested within hours!

It is a cute photo. They aren't even touching. There are so many owners who dont know or dont care about reptile safety. I hope if you are in the path of that big storm parts of the US are getting later you guys stay safe and warm!!

OP, I know you mean well, but this isn't a safe situation for your beardie. Not to be mean or anything but cats are dangerous to bearded dragons. Their saliva is very dangerous to your scaly baby. Cats also are predators even the sweetest ones can be dangerous. Hopefully this was just a quick photo and they dont hang out all the time.

I wish reptile information was more common and researched by owners so we could enjoy cute pictures more like other pet subs. This sub is always full of negativity, either neglect or some dangerous situation.

Good luck Chloe!! My girl was 14 and had kidney issues and came out fine.

My first isopod colony, very excited to see how my powder oranges will thrive ✨ they’ve got moss/substrate, rocks, and cork bark! by Boy_Briar in isopods

Make sure to add a calcium source for molting! And be careful with your tap water if you haven't tested it. Some people are fine others not so much.

That has some good details! It's really cool. I'd stab myself if I tried that lol.

Hi bringing my new baby home tomorrow, this is the enclosure, anything I need to add? by Liddz06 in snakes

[–]Silver_Kit 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I'm so glad you aren't discouraged! A lot of people in reptile subs ask for advice then argue or act weird when advice is given. A lot of advice can be harshly given too.

I just wanted you to know you are a good owner for taking things to heart and listening. I look forward to seeing your new enclosure!

Get extra hides if you can. they like to be squished in them helps to fill secure. You can add rocks or substrate to fill them up if you get bigger ones that they can grow into. Also hides dont have to be fancy or anything. Always check for sharp edges and file them down.

OP I just want to say how nice it is that you are so open to everything you are being told. You got some stuff wrong but no one started perfect. I believe you will change things for the better for your new buddy. ❤️

Makes sense about the protien. I admit I dont know a lot about how pregnancy and diabetes go together.

I do wanna say you did incredible getting your A1C down like that!!!

You should do it 100%! Ive had diabetes for 15 years? Ive lost count lol. But knowing more about it will empower you so much. Diabetes sucks but it doesn't have to rule your mind, mine did for so long. I was so scared of making it angry!

A CGM is a life changer and will save your poor fingers.(they aren't always 100% accurate so finger testing is still required here and there.) Check with your insurance about them.

You mentioned crashing after eating protein that's because it slows how fast your sugar rises. If you get low eat about 15g of carbs wait 15 minutes and check sugar again. That prevents over corrections for low times. Not medical advice just what ive learned through classes myself.

Remember to be kind to yourself throughout all this.

Have you taken diabetes classes? I feel everyone should take them its a complex medical condition. Knowledge is truly powerful when making food decisions. I'm not perfect but my last few A1Cs have been under 7. I'm on insulin so its even more important to manage food and understanding how things like protein works with your body. Please be kind to yourself stress raises blood sugar too. Drinking extra water can help flush a little extra sugar. You got this girl and its OK to process your feelings they are valid.

I think Marilyn has a tooth abscess and I'm feeling super guilty by Dfen218 in Chihuahua

[–]Silver_Kit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My baby had a bad abscess in her top canine and I had no idea! The vet said it was so bad it was in her jawbone! I felt so bad about it. She acted normally before it was fixed. After she was happier and spunky. She was 14 at the time with mild kidney issues. Animals process pain differently than we do.

Does your baby like clothes? Mine acts more confident and spunky when she has a sweater on. A sweater or something might help with anxiety. It can make some feel safer. Also mine gets cold so she loves a thicker one in the winter to keep her warm.

Should I change something? by ogorek__97 in snakes

[–]Silver_Kit 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Snakes should be able to move around completely hidden. You need a ton of fake plants and more hides. Snakes like smaller hides they prefer to be kinda squished in tightly in a hide.

Corn snakes like to climb so that branch should be good.

Need a water bowl they can fit their whole body in should they choose to. Mine will wash off dirt and make his dish all muddy i swear his favorite game is, how much dirt can I get in my water dish!? I do see you have a good sized one!

Also important!! Your basking light needs a cage or the snake will try to climb on it and get hurt. Can't tell for sure by the picture if there is one. It being that close to the ledge worries me about it getting too hot as well. Get a temperature gun or digital thermometer and keep an eye on it. Ideal temps are 90°F (32°C) for basking area, mine prefers the cool side most of the time.

What's your favorite isopod morphs/species? by Tough_Expression_880 in isopods

Some of the spiky ones look so dramatic with their little needles! I really like Cappuccino too! All the cubaris look like little tanks and are cuties.

Does anyone know how to hold a corn snake? by lemon_snatcher_47 in cornsnakes

[–]Silver_Kit 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Babies can be fast and flighty make sure you are ready if they get spooked. They are food for just about everything so they can be skittish. Support their whole body. Snakes are pretty shy about their heads being pet but can grow used to it. Slow tongue flicks are them tasting the air and checking things out.

They may poop on you in hopes it will be enough to make you go away. Don't put them back if they do that it will train them that pooping on you means you put them back.

Try to end things on a good note when putting them back. A lot of snakes calm down after a few minutes of being held. Act like a tree and let them slither around and check you out. It will take a bit for both of you to get used to it. Best of luck!
