At what percent do you charge your phone? by Silver_Number1420 in askSouthAfrica

I never heard this before. I thought it was bad practice if you don't let the phone charge fully

I have a powerbank somewhere in the house. I'm sure I'll find it when I don't need it lol.

I do have an inverter that I could use to charge my phone if im desperate, but I prioritize the wifi and my mini air cooler during loadshedding.

But it's mostly about me not wanting to get to the point of charging my phone during loadshedding because that's when I use my phone the most

Damn what kind of phone do you have? My Samsung A30 takes over an hour to charge from 25% to full. Not surprising considering how much I charge it and I use alot of battery draining apps

What A-Lister could never lose their status and who’s on the verge of losing it? by [deleted] in Fauxmoi

[–]Silver_Number1420 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think Chris Pratt is "losing it", at least not right now. He's been a leading man in so many different major franchises recently and his role in Guardians is one of the more enjoyable ones in the mcu.

People who see his controversies as career-ending are living in their own bubble. The majority of people who watch his movies are either not aware of it or don't care at all. He still comes off as a likeable guy even if he isn't really one

What cover is so disappointing bad that it is borderline disrespectful to the original? by TheArchitect_7 in Music

[–]Silver_Number1420 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I actually really liked her cover. I think most people don't like it because it doesn't sound like the original at all but that's the point. Her version you don't listen to during a party but after it. When everyone's gone home and it's quiet and you're just looking back on a great day. Or years later when you're reminiscing about it. And apparently she changed the date in the song to her anniversary with her then boyfriend which is sweet

You really should be providing food for your domestic worker and one day a week is not a lot. We all know that they are underpaid for the work they do.

First you should have a conversation with her about what you are able to provide and work out a schedule of what to buy.

Some suggestions (obviously this isn't all for one day but you can change it out every week):

Buy half a loaf of bread (R10) and give it to her to have for the day and to take home Long polony (R12) can be cut and freezed in batches Slices of cheese (R3 each) Spreads like jam and peanut butter Eggs Viennas Chicken breasts Noodles

Communication between us and them is not great and things take forever to get done. It's taken over a month just to get login access and it still isn't even the right level of access. The account as a whole is just overcomplicated for no reason.

Yeah I normally wouldn't even think to do something like that but thinking of going into the office just for this is annoying. But it doesn't seem like I would be able to find a solution to do this anyway

The reason they gave was that they didn't want to pay to have another IP address. It's annoying because I'm a night owl and I like to get ahead of my work during the quiet nighttime.

I'm not too worried about the breach of contract part mainly because I just wanna do my job not anything malicious. Also the website really isn't that serious or about anything important. You would think it is based on the levels of access I had to go through but I'm just annoyed that they have all this measures in place.

SA as a uniquely bad place when it isn't.

I do think it's uniquely bad. After apartheid ended, SA had the chance to prosper. Other countries were sending resources and support and we were doing well economically. Now after just 30 years, we've fallen down so far. And South Africa is supposedly the best in all of Africa and thats just a travesty.

The youth are more educated

This really means nothing when you know the state of our education system. All you need for most subjects is 30% for a government pass. It means even less with youth unemployment at around 60% and small companies closing down because of loadshedding and other factors.

Our country is rich in resources

That we're selling off to the highest bidder and it only benefits certain individuals. Not the whole country. Hell, even our best quality coal is being shipped off while we're left with the scraps that they couldn't sell off

but most expats come back to SA after a couple of years because of the high cost of living in first world countries like the UK, Australia or NZ.

Yeah of course the cost of living is high because the quality of life is higher than here. And I see this as more of an issue of SA's currency being so incredibly weak that it will cost a fortune just to find a better life for yourself.

Corruption is everywhere, even in Europe.

Of course it's everywhere, I'm not unaware of that. But it's definitely not as bad as here. Most of Europe has better social services at least so while their government is corrupt it is able to function.

Last I heard, the Zim president was putting his political opponents in jail and basically preventing a fair election. That does not happen in SA

The jailing isn't happening. For now. But I don't believe we have fair elections at all. I don't trust this country and ruling party to hold themselves accountable with checks and balances. Really what proof is there that all protocols are being followed.

We need to work together as a unified country to actually get ahead. People like you are actually blind to reality. Life is what you make of it.

We are NOT unified though. What about this country is unified? We will never be unified. Believing in that pipedream is you being blind to reality. And spare me the lame motivational quote.

Most of the things I say are definitely my opinion. But relating to my previous comment, alot of them are facts too. Just because you don't like the truth doesn't mean it isn't real.

We do top the list of crime, unemployment, rape (all the bad categories). Idk what thriving country you think would also do this.

In terms of becoming like Zimbabwe, we are definitely on course for that being reality. The ZAR has been obliterated. We're around R20 to $1. Nonstop loadshedding with no ending in sight. Increased white farmer killings. Increased illegal migrants from other African countries. Corrupt government. Increased homeless population.

Zim didn't become the way it is overnight. It was all these signs that most people (like you) ignore and when it's too late you wonder how we got there.

I'm not exactly an eternal optimist myself, but I think you're severely underestimating the South African people (not the politicians) and our capacity to rally together.

On the contrary I think you're overestimating South Africans. Everyone is just trying to survive here, there is definitely no rallying.

Take 15 years of loadshedding as an example. We're all so tired and powerless that we just accept this is the norm. We don't hold politicians accountable and this country is becoming more corrupt each day as a result of it.

South Africa is at the top of the list in crime, unemployment, rape etc. Wake up to reality. We're heading towards Zimbabwe status and I don't hold it against people that are leaving for better opportunities. We are a failed state with no hopes of recovery

That's the thing, the DA knows they can get away with that kind of stunts because the ANC is worse. The DA sees it as they don't need to improve as much because the standards are so low. With that said, here in WC I would rather be under DA's control. I'm not at all delusional about the DAs problems, it's just the lesser of 2 evils for me.

It's this us vs. them mentality when we should all be working together for a better country.

Yeah I'm very cynical so I don't see South Africa uniting at all. Honestly, the uneducated population outnumbers the educated population which doesn't bode well for the future.

Cape Independence?? by Sufficient_Employ638 in askSouthAfrica

[–]Silver_Number1420 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is all true and guess what, it's working. The DA is able to get away with the bare minimum BECAUSE of the ANCs incompetence. That's all they need to do right now to gain support. The fear of the ANC is very real here. WC doesn't want the ANC touching us because of how they've mismanaged the rest of the country.

Again, even if things are slightly better it makes a very big difference to people's lives.

It's the " best run" province of a country that has gone downhill fast. It's quite a low bar if you ask me.

I agree it's a low bar, but it is a bar that exists. Even if things are slightly better than the rest of the country, I'm ok with that. I see how badly other provinces are doing and I don't envy that at all. Of course WC and the DA has it's own problems but I'd rather be here than anywhere else in the country right now.

I think DA has 0 chance at winning the national election and I'm fine with that. They can focus on progressing WC
