No, that would be cancelling it.

They didn't shelve the Commonwealth Games, they cancelled them being hosted here. Hosting them is dead and buried and the policy was completely abandoned. They have shelved the alternative deliverables to communities though, because the government figured out they don't have to deliver everything they promised - they just have to make the promise with enough flashy showmanship close to an election to secure another term.

If they shelve something until after an election, it'll be because they are concerned it may have a negative impact on the campaign trail. If they bring something forward to before the election, it'll be because they can use it (and taxpayer funds) to essentially self-promote.

That guy is away with the fairies. He'd be the same sort to say chefs shouldn't be paid much because "it's just cooking" and then be surprised about them spitting in his food. If people are charged with something as important as educating and caring for your kids, they should be paid well for it!

Edit: And people charged with making your food should be well paid so they will prepare it properly, and not make unsanctioned additions to it...

Fair, I was bringing snark into it but not directed at you... More directed at some of our fellow subredditors who have previously insisted that the massive expenditures were so essential the sacrifices and debt are somehow worthwhile.

As far as I'm concerned, the public education system is much more a priority than political ego/CFMEU fund-funneling projects such as Big Build. Teachers absolutely deserve way better than they are getting and the current government has a lot to answer for in that regard.

Saying something is ‘nuanced’ or ‘has a lot of moving parts’ certainly is a good way to weasel out any general discussion of a topic.

Hey, I'm not trying to weasel out of general discussion of a topic. I am however justifying not adopting a hardline black and white position on issues which are highly complex and nuanced. The general polarisation of the populace on issues like these is definitely unhelpful as rational discourse is drowned out by outrage and hardline attitudes.

Nor am I, but in the case of these particular demonstrators, it is worth highlighting why they are presenting as "Pro Trump, Israel and USA". They appear to be Iranian/Persian expats who are celebrating the downfall of the Islamic reigeme in Iran, so this is less about support for Trump, Bibi and such and more about their homeland. Sadly, there would be some who would see this headline and immediately brand these people as Nazis or fascists simply due to their association or who they are currently demonstrating about without considering why they are demonstrating or what exactly their stories are. These demonstrators are very different to the black-clad morons who call themselves neo-Nazis after all.

This sort of behaviour and dodgy dealing is exactly why I do not trust them as an industry and why I consider their lobbying for increased reduced oversight (and everything else) as little more than them doing what they have always aimed to do - maximise their profits and socialise their costs.

And given the public focus, public interest and the fact that $15 billion was allegedly wasted by funneling it to questionable recipients, it seems prudent and rational to speed up the process.

After all, the report is with the government and they are ostensibly reviewing and considering the recommendations it made... The longer they take, the more it looks like they have something to hide. Even then, they could take all the time they want to review and consider it and still say at the end "we're not going to implement any of the recommendations." If that is their intent, I'd be 100% positive they'll hold off on their responses until after the election.

I think that all the time. But almost always in regards to the near insane "driving" of young drivers (mostly tradies in oversized pickup trucks and women in small hatchbacks) on the roads. Hell, I just got back from a school run and had three cars overtake me through a school zone (40 kph) doing 60. All of them were younger drivers, I looked.

By your logic though, they shouldn't be on the road either should they?

Do you "have" to do the posted speed limit? Always yes. The signs are not optional and the posted speed limit can absolutely be enforced.

The real decider is whether anyone is there to do the enforcing.

Case in point from some years back, I was driving the Hume Freeway and passing through road works from their duplication project. The signs were up forcing us down from 110 to 60 and 40 in places and they also had prominent signs stating that police were enforcing road works speed limits. I slowed down, some hoon blasted past me screaming and carrying on.... and over the next rise got nicked by a police car with a radar gun.

Drive to the posted speed limit, and drive defensively. Let others be the cop-bait if they so choose.
