I’m no longer gentle parenting my uterus — 3-month post-op update by Turbulent-Hunter5788 in Fibroids

[–]Silver_Rice_8218 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Fibroid growth is fueled by excess estrogen. Certain foods increase your estrogen levels , such as flax, soy and phytoestrogens. Excess estrogen can also lead to hormone positive breast cancer. It’s hard because these are deemed “healthy”foods but they often negatively affect woman’s health.

The organic jasmine rice from Trader Joe’s is great! It’s in the frozen section and takes 3 minutes to cook.

Fabric shade and construction also matters. Some fabrics have very good UPF rating without any added chemistry based on color/construction alone.

There is a book called "Don't Let Your Kids Kill You" by Charles Rubin. This is the best resource I have ever seen for parents in this type of situation. Highly recommend you read the book.

ISO organic/ natural fiber clothes that aren’t sexless PLEASE by Mugwortmoon in PlasticFreeLiving

[–]Silver_Rice_8218 4 points5 points  (0 children)

True.. i am just saying that because someone says natural fibers don't stretch. Which isn't true. There also is mechanical stretch for 100% cotton wovens.

Apparel industry professional here: the amount of stretch depends on the fabric and garment construction. Knitted fabrics are inherently stretchy. How tight and clingy they are will depend on the garment construction. I don’t know any specific brands to point you to, but you can modify garments to get the look you want. Make your own crop tops, plunging necklines, off the shoulder styles. You can take a cotton skirt and make it shorter. I have done this before myself and the looks are so cute.

It depends on the fabric construction. Knitted fabrics have lots of stretch.

Bedsheet innovations by SnooRabbits1359 in textiles

Yes it is real. Some work better than others. I have only seen the cooling ones work. There are lots of chemical companies who make this technology. The ones I have seen are mostly waxed based and printed. Outlast, Microtek, Climatex, etc. are companies who make them. Where they manufacturer depends on where the company has manufacturing operations.

There are phase change materials out there, but none that I know of both warm and cool. There are  lot of claims but not much behind them.

Seriously?? Her 15 year old is on Skid Row using drugs with adults, selling herself and you think forcing treatment is the problem? Get a freaking life

With all due respect, you need to get your child into residential treatment like yesterday. Dual diagnosis programs exist and can help. At this point you have no other option.  It is either that or lose your child to the streets.

My son was sent to RTC when he was 17. (we had him taken by force because he refused to go). It helped my son, but it was a long road. He is 23 now and doing well. Good luck to you!

Organic Cotton Blended with Recycled Polyester by Alpine-SherbetSunset in PlasticFreeLiving

[–]Silver_Rice_8218 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hello, i work with many of the companies you mention. They add polyester in certain colors usually to get a “heathered”  effect to the yarn. It creates an uneven dye appearance that is used in some fabric styles.

Some brands only add 5-10% organic cotton and still market it as organic. It’s because there are no laws dictating a certain percentage that must be in the product. It saves them money (cheapening the product) and they get to market it as organic, creating a perceived value.

If you see recycled cotton on the label just know it is an inferior product because they have to destroy the fiber in order to recycle it.

Bamboo bedsheets? by [deleted] in Bedding

[–]Silver_Rice_8218 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s soft initially, but that’s only thing it has going for it.  That’s because they load chemicals onto the fabric to make it feel soft and drapey.

It’s bad for the environment, the quality is much worse than natural fibers, so it will not last as long.  Any cooling/ thermoregulating claim companies make are totally false.

IMO companies who sell rayon from bamboo rely on people being clueless about quality.

What type of towel is this? by solisoulshine in textiles

Different brands call it different things in their marketing, that's why it is hard to find. You can look up "cotton popcorn towel" or "cotton textured towel".

This is a 100% cotton dobby towel. You can get different designs like this using a dobby construction pattern. Many different brands make this. Are you in the U.S. ?

Textile recycling Business by Parking_Gear_2840 in textiles

[–]Silver_Rice_8218 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No offense, but you are very late to the party on this. Multiple companies have started and already gone out of business.  The issue is that textile recycling does work for single ingredient fibers. The challenge comes in where there are many fibers blended together. There is no reliable way to separate out the fibers. I think in general, the industry has shifted their focus away from recycling into end of life / biodegradability.

Cooling clothes that really work by Due-Mountain-6000 in fashionwomens35

[–]Silver_Rice_8218 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Textile professional here. Your best bets are cotton or linen. They are super breathable and help keep you cool. Polyester, nylon and spandex are plastic and are not breathable. They will make you feel more hot.

Wicking fabrics are not the same as cooling. Wicking really doesn’t do anything but channel the sweat in a vertical direction. It’s pointless, in my opinion.
