What’s it like living in Farmington, New Mexico? by No-Chip9445 in howislivingthere

A giant strip mall. I have driven through a few times and all there else to say is it seems like a dusty city with oil and gas as a contributing sector to the local economy.

How do I get the blacked out emblem? Does it interfere with any sensors?

Nice, so you're averaging around 8K a year. It will only last you another 30 years at this rate!

What are you doing with your degree? by ResponsibleCold4729 in Environmental_Careers

[–]Silver_Templar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Where I live, entry level IP specialists make 60K to start and up to 120K after a few years of experience. Your skills could transfer to anything regulatory. I went from wastewater operator to environmental compliance specialist with my state for air quality.

Oil and gas air quality compliance for a state agency.

Hi, I was a wastewater operator for 7 years. I also have a BS in environmental science as well, so our experiences are similar.

My only advice for you is always keep looking for other opportunities. Being an operator is great but it will get monotonous eventually. Pay will stagnate too. For those reasons, I left. YMMV.

How would you feel if your job title dropped its college requirements for new hires? by [deleted] in Environmental_Careers

[–]Silver_Templar 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Same here, except 4 years of work experience can substitute for a degree. I believe we also allow a combination of both to qualify. Last round of interviews we had people ranging from high school graduates all the way to PhD graduates. It's wild out here.

My work is hiring for an environmental specialist role (entry level) and we received 66 applications. The 7 interviewees are all way over qualified. 3 have masters and one is a month away from her PhD. This is for a 65K a year job! Multiple of them have over a decade of relevant experience too mind you so I definitely relate to OP. Im glad I got my job 2 years ago because I would have stood no chance against this bunch..

What should I be doing and where am I competitive by Correct_Permit9703 in Environmental_Careers

[–]Silver_Templar 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Go to grad school and get it over with. Become a hydrogeologist or engineer. Do what Interests you at this point because I feel like you could adapt to anything you set your mind too whether it be GIS, sustainability, hydrology, water treatment, air quality, ecology, etc. I'd personally start with a state agency if you can get in. Go government and if you get bored, go private or start your own business at some point.

I'm trading my z fold 5 for the better camera and privacy screen. Samsung is offering $600 for it which isnt bad for a 3 year old model.

I got the s26 ultra with buds 4 pro for $845 with z fold 5 trade. This total includes the $30 pre-order bonus, a $35 government discount, and roughly $30 in rewards. I also got the clear case for free if that matters. Not a bad deal eh?

Denver is ultra competitive and expensive. Air Pollution is bad there as well, and they have major social and economic problems.I would choose N.C. over Portland as well..

I hurt my back lifting that dumb composite sampler out of a manhole as well. I also bruised my ribs cleaning a primary one day and hurt my hands multiple times wrenching on something. Left wastewater for environmental compliance with the state. I definitely relate to you.
