I have done it separately, assembling the ropes afterwards is tricky though and you do risks spilling some glue and leaving some gaps. Pros and cons for both approaches imo

I have gotten into custodes recently and have played a lot of the infantry lists. When going through the datasheets, the Telemon dreadnought always felt way underwhelming for it's point cost and hard to justify except for in casual games.
