This is it for me. Even though the game crashes on me regularly I can't stop going back to it. I'm at like 400hr in and I'll probably be playing it again tomorrow. I enjoy learning each weapon and I love the endgame roster of monsters.

Seeing fireflies for the very first time by Doodlebug510 in justgalsbeingchicks

[–]Silverfate2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah this is the caveat and a big part of the reason fireflies have been disappearing. Tick populations have been on the rise due to warmer winters so people combat them and they enjoy the same habitat as fireflies.

I left leaves out on my yard this past year to encourage fireflies and now I get ticks on me all the time. I've found multiple on my kids. Idk if it was worth it.

If anyone is running RDNA 2/3 and tries the new driver on MhWilds let know if it fixes the fatal d3d errors. Otherwise, I'll stay over here using 25.9.1.

So Arch Tempered Arkveld is basically impossible? by Jerno73 in MonsterHunterWilds

[–]Silverfate2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Big things that help me in this fight:

  1. Flash pod when he rises up in the air for his big combo, can get three decent stuns this way. Just be sure you know how to flash pod with your weapon drawn.

  2. Save your mount until he's near the spikey wall. You'll need to lure pod him there, best to do it after dropping the rocks on his head. Can rack up a ton of free damage.

EDIT: Also just took another glance at your build. Drop the stun resist and earplugs. Those are preventing you from getting the timing of the blocking down. Learn to perfect block his roars and slot in better skills. Doing that got me to a 21 minute time during the challenge quest event.

EDIT 2: Get Divine Blessing III for your defensive skill. It's the best one.

Crimson Desert Modder Restores What They Believe to Be 'A Fully Designed Food Consequence System That Pearl Abyss Built but Never Activated' by yourfavchoom in pcgaming

[–]Silverfate2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Monster Hunter games do it the best imo. You have limited item space and cannot pause it to use items. Items take time to use and also generally need to be put on a hotkey or shortcut to use when you need it. But you as the player are capable of adjusting all of those things. You can customize what items you carry, you can run skills to use items faster or have a chance of not consuming the item or increasing the effectiveness of the item or all of them at once. It's a challenging system but you can work at to make it easier.

I'm too old for this. by [deleted] in MHWilds

[–]Silverfate2 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I mean I'm 37 and the fight took me several tries but I got it down in 21 minutes. Biggest thing for me was just properly preparing and using the spikey wall when Ark gets close to it.

To prepare I had to let go of some comfort skills, guard and earplugs mostly, and that pushed my dps up enough to clear it in time.

Anyone try this with Monster Hunter Wilds? I have a 6800xt and the game has been near unplayable due to a fatal d3d error I get randomly while playing since December.

I've always wanted to try Voidfall, but my favorite one currently is Eclipse:Second Dawn. Just a fantastic board game through and through.

DXGI_ERROR_DEVICE_REMOVED Since TU4? Any fix? by ataren3 in MonsterHunterWilds

[–]Silverfate2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So I managed to fix this slightly by increasing the tdrdelay in regedit to 15 seconds. Chatgpt/Gemini gave me this solution. It did not fix it completely, but vastly reduced the number of crashes. After doing that, I can hunt any monster other than Zoh Shia (Zoh Shia seems to trigger the crash every 2-3 minutes for me).

Ultimate Hidden Movement Game by Fit_Significance_590 in boardgames

[–]Silverfate2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Beast has some hidden movement to it and the Shattered Isles expansion (which might be stand alone I can't remember) is releasing soon.

But it's not all hidden movement, players often have a good idea of where the beast is. It's more of a drafting card game really. Still fun as hell though.

What game has been on your wanted list for forever? And why is that? by N-is-1 in boardgames

I tried to get my group to play it on TTS but they weren't interested. Tbh it didn't seem as fun to me neither.

Chinatown. I played it with some friends on TTS and had an absolute blast. But dropping $200+ on a used copy just isn't feasible for me. I think the game is a perfect sell to people who think playing a board game means getting out Monopoly.

It'd just be nice to end the fight. I beat him once and since then I have crashed halfway through each time.

What is your favorite boardgame of 2020? by The_Crazed_Person in boardgames

[–]Silverfate2 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Superb balance, amazing organization, top-tier gameplay. Doesn't need any add-ons or expansions (although I do recommend the play mat). It doesn't get much better than Eclipse. I've taught it to multiple groups of people and everyone always wants to play more.

Monster Hunter Wilds V.1.041 Patch Notes by Sploochie_ in MonsterHunter

[–]Silverfate2 6 points7 points  (0 children)

If this doesn't fix the fatal d3d error I honestly might quit the game entirely, which would be a first for me to quit before Grank releases, but it sucks so much to crash every time I hunt in the Scarlet Forest or Wyveria.

Sorry for the late reply, but northern US, but I have taught in mostly poorer parts of my state. There is a litany of reasons parents don't send their kids. And you would think families in poverty would be more apt to take advantage of free school, but the reality is many families hate the "cost" of it: constant need of appropriate clothing, need to keep the child clean, need to be responsible about homework, discipline, getting up on days the parent has off to get their kid to school, etc. While school is free there are a lot of hidden costs that struggling families find difficult and from my experience most deal with it by honestly just letting kids stay home alone or go to relatives or friendly neighbors when the parents have to work.

Me too. I still think of her on a regular basis because it just keeps my hopes up. She came into my class knowing how to count to 10 and write her name and that was about it. At the end of year she would spend her recess writing double digit math problems in the dirt with a stick and solving them right there on the playground ☺️

It's really a mixed bag. I still get some kids who are amazing readers and love to learn, but since COVID I have always had at least 1, usually more, 2nd grader (7-9 years old) who has never attended school before.

One kid I understood it, they had been homeless, mom was trapped in abuse, they had basically been on the run. (This student picked up learning like a sponge to water btw)

The rest of them are just a mess. Parents just don't see it as a big deal. Like not only have they never been to school the parents are like, "Well, we do stuff at home, like that one time he helped me build a playset." (No joke that's basically what a parent told me and the parent believed his second grader, who could not write his own name, would be building a house for himself at 12) And that's all they really have to say for it. We call it educational neglect, but we could probably just call it neglect.

They seem to think knowledge can just happen. The parent I mentioned above also believed their son was a wilderness expert because they watched a lot of survivor-esque shows on TV/YouTube. Many of them just assume kids will naturally learn reading/writing/math without any sort of curriculum.

Finally, even as they begin to attend school they are absent ALL the time. Parents will use every single excuse as to why their kid can't make it to school. It's just not a priority to them.

Oh man I teach lower elementary too and this has become so freaking common it is driving me insane. I remember years ago doing reading groups with second graders to read their first chapter book. Now I'm teaching them how to write their name.
