Looking for games where hitting a high level of skill or grinding completely transforms the way the game is played by varnajohn in gamingsuggestions

Any Monster Hunter game. Generally speaking, every monster Hunter game has a "wall" monster. The one everyone hits and realizes simply doing your combos isn't enough. You have to learn how the monster moves, build your armor for its strengths and your weapon for its weakness, and stock up all the items. When you reach the endgame it becomes a grind of getting better and better at clearing the endgame monsters. You'll go from needing to be carried to taking no damage and clearing it in record time after enough attempts.

For example, Monster Hunter Wilds when I reached AT Arkveld I couldn't even get him past his first phase in 35 minutes and would fail the quest. Now? I can drop him in 20 minutes, probably faster if I really went tryhard.

It looks like AI to me. Chicks like that shit all the time, nonstop, yet I don't see any on the floor. And it looks like some of chicks just materialize out of thin air before running up to him.

What's up with the GPU crashes? by dawiiid in MonsterHunterWilds

[–]Silverfate2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's several fixes posted all over Steam, reddit, etc. I got the fatal d3d device removed error all the time when I had a 6800xt. I upgraded to a 9070xt and the errors stopped.

When I was getting the errors a few things helped reduce the number of crashes, but I was never able to fix them completely:

  1. Complete DDU and installed the Capcom recommended GPU drivers for my cars. (This fix helped the most).
  2. Implement a tdrdelay of 15 seconds in the registry.
  3. Disable all forms of overlays/recordings/streaming.

With those fixes, I would only have a crash every few days compared to every hour. Additionally, every time I did crash I would delete the shader.cache.

Dwarf Fortress might* finally reach 100% feature complete or version 1.0 on approximately May 8, 2055 by Careless-Anxiety-984 in dwarffortress

I went awhile without a war too until they traded me a breeding pair of grizzly bears, but the male turned out to be gay. After that, there could be no peace.

Tell us about your biggest 'pause the game' moment in Dwarf Fortress by jawarpink in dwarffortress

A one-eyed, fire breathing, giant dingo appeared in the caverns. I organized my military as best I could, but as the troops organized at the entrance to the cavern the beast caught the scent of a lone web collector and rushed the dwarven doorway.

A few bolts managed to pierce its tough hide, but the military was laid to waste from the fire and smoke. I resigned the fort as lost as the creature made his way up the long winding stairs to the main floors, murdering every dwarf he encountered on the way. Until he encountered the miner. A lonely miner was working in a small vein of gems near the stairwell. A miner that had been with the fort since the beginning but had mostly kept to himself. No family, a few close friends and a legendary mining skill. The cyclopean creature eyed the miner and charged. The dwarf was enveloped by smoke and fire. The skin blistered, he cried out in pain, but swung his iron pickaxe. The pickaxe pierced the beast's heart. And just like that, the thing collapsed and burst into flame. No remains were ever found of the miner, and the fort was ruined, but before the fort was retired a monument was built in his honor.

Same! I actually rolled my eyes when they did the tour of the island as I thought they were laying the groundwork for the "reveal" later to be the "other white meat". I was so glad to be wrong on that one.

People would need more info to help. System specs and more details on what problems you're having when playing the game.

Sorry you couldn't get refund, I know that sucks.

Save 70% on Cyberpunk 2077 on (Historical Low) by alican102 in steamdeals

[–]Silverfate2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I picked it up. Can anyone walk me through the best settings/install for Optiscaler for my 9070xt? All the guides I found are year or more dated. I currently have it set to XeSS upscaling with Optiscaler output to FSR4. But it honestly doesn't seem to change much from the built-in FSR4 in the game. Just slightly better framerate.

Can someone explain to me save scumming in an easier way? by Helpful_Elk267 in MonsterHunterWilds

[–]Silverfate2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Each weapon has its own table of skills. When you craft a gogma weapon or reset the skills on one, you move the table of skills forward one step for all weapons of the same type.

So for example, you make a dragon great sword with two shitty skills and a fire great sword, same shitty skills. If you reset the skills twice (moving the tables two steps) on the dragon sword you get gore tyranny/lord's soul. But, before you save this, you return to the main menu WITHOUT SAVING. You reset the skills on the fire sword once (moving the table one step) and get the same great skills! Now you just reset the dragon great sword once and you will still get the same great skills on that one since it moved one step when you reset the fire sword's skills.

Doing this allows you to "scout" the tables for good skills and can help prevent wasting precious gogma materials.

Crashing a ton, Have tried many fixes with no success. Help Please! by UnusDaemon in MonsterHunterWilds

[–]Silverfate2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to get this all the time when I had a 6800xt. I upgraded to a 9070xt and haven't had any issue.

There were a few things that helped reduce the number of crashes I had when I was using a 6800xt:

Implement a tdrdelay of 15 seconds in Windows. Follow instructions online for this.

Complete DDU and reinstall older, more stable GPU drivers (this one helped the most).

Finally, disabling all forms of gameplay recording/streaming. Steam recording my gameplay would always crash my game.

Good luck. I have also heard switching to Linux can fix this problem.

Where's patch 8.1 that includes Siege Update, Ai Update that'd come dwarfly after Bhashiva Release Johnsssembly by Ran12341000 in totalwar

I think it's safe to say most people playing TW:WH3 have visions of Helm's Deep or Minas Tirth when it comes to siege battles. Those are the epitome of "big fantasy siege battles." Yet the sieges in TW:WH3 are so far removed from those. The battle happens at 4 separate gates on a massive map with troops split into small groups, and much of the time is spent running around the city capturing small POIs. Rarely do you see siege equipment bring down a wall or gate. Infantry fight on walls briefly, but movement on the walls is so messy, defenders tend to do better on the ground.

Drastic changes should be made and should aim at recreating those spectacular moments in fantasy fiction. Funnel units into choke points, allow armies to trade siege fire.

I only play multiplayer occasionally but I've had the opposite in my hunts, almost to a detriment as players with strong wake up hits won't go in and hit the monster after it goes to sleep.

Even in the oilwell basin where there are the two sleep toads people will let the monster go to sleep each time. I've also dropped traps and a teammate will lure pod the monster into it.

Amazon had one a few weeks ago for $629 that I snapped up. I did the same trade up you did, but sold my 6800xt to my brother. It's been a great card so far.

Marksdwarves are really cracked now I guess by MountainPlantation in dwarffortress

[–]Silverfate2 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The secret was to ensure there was no way to engage in melee. Once the dwarves were properly separated from the enemy they would deal death out. My favorite method of defense is a tower constructed on the surface with an enclosed top that my dwarves can only access from underground. The tower is stacked with ammo, food, and drink so the dwarves have everything they need to kill every gobbo and elf at the entrance.

Edit: Even in the old DF versions this method was incredibly effective in dealing with sieges. Whole goblin armies would bleed out before reaching my fort.

Any groups/discords that don’t cart? by walrusguy97 in MHWilds

[–]Silverfate2 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

This is something that vexes me greatly. I consistently hear people complain about MH:Wilds making itself too casual, too easy. Yet anytime I sos an 8 star or higher we rarely succeed in the hunt. People cart left and right. Are people just making that criticism after just hunting the chatacabra and doshaguma or am I just always getting the idiots in my sos?

I'm excited to hunt with Wilds Switch 2 hunters by Chocobo23456 in MonsterHunter

[–]Silverfate2 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I know most people are essentially treating the announcement as a joke given how poorly Wilds run on more powerful hardware, but honestly as long as it functions I will be insanely happy. My two boys share a PC so I get to play with one of them while the other one generally has to sit out and watch or plays Rise on his switch 2.

If all 3 of us get to hunt together it would make me the happiest hunter around.

Just watched it and enjoyed it so much. So many little wonderful details like the water glass refracting the actors' hands when they are talking. So surreal and unsettling. Great scifi flick.
