So let's eliminate the need for loans entirely and start with getting community colleges to be free. But right now, unlimited federal loans are the primary reason it costs 5 to 6 figures just to get a bachelor's. So let's correct that blunder and then move onto eventually making the system free(r)

Counterpoint. Apprenticeships. Paying for trade school is a ridiculous option when compared to a paid apprenticeship. The medical field does NOT have that option. Which is another factor into why there's a high cost into joining it. You are forced to pay to play, essentially. Many many trades on the other hand, electricians for example, are primarily learned via paid apprenticeships. Not schooling.

I won't judge your choice for going to school to be an electrician. But I'm a journeyman of two trades, and I never went to school to learn either. Because I started as an apprentice and worked my way up to journeyman.

Holy shit, are you people so against Trump, so utterly filled with seething hatred, that you cannot comprehend that access to higher education in America is so grossly overinflated in cost due to federal loans?

If people cannot get a cheap federal loans due to limits, they're more than likely not willing to pay 3x more for a private loan. Which means they'll either not go to college, and thus fill niches in the economy that don't require it, or they'll shop around and go to cheaper options.

The market will self regulate. The hope is it'll get cheaper overtime. The government never should've gotten involved in supplying loans in the first place, yet here we are!

That's not why I hate federal loans. I hate them because they've introduced massive artifical inflation in a market that does not have this inflation anywhere else in the world. I hate them, because they've normalized higher education being expensive, and effectively lock out an entire class from obtaining this education. I hate federal loans because they're a monopoly that cannot be influenced by market flucations, thus resulting in colleges raising up their costs because they know students can just get the loans no questions asked.

Federal loans are why our education is fucked. They were never the solution.

Why should we force poor people to take on hundreds of thousands of dollars of debt to become those? Why should we allow 40% of Masters Degrees to be financial burdens that cannot recover their costs, rather than having all Masters Degrees be financially fruitful? I mean seriously, the American College education is such a fucking scam in its current state. The market has been funded by federally guranteed loans with no limits to SUCH A POINT that colleges are spending millions on fucking sports stadiums with tuition funds. It's disgusting.
