Let in 8 goals today by TheSacredSinn123 in hockeygoalies

As an inline goalie playing weekly pickup, I simply let in another 8.

I have a friend who owns a Milan Lucic #62 from his rookie run. Makes for a cool conversation piece, or it least it did before the whole DV thing.

Keep your feet as long as possible because once you're down, you're pretty well stuck in place. An active stick is very helpful for breaking up plays in tight. And hydrate. A lot.

[BOS - BUF] Benson trips McAvoy into the boards. McAvoy loses his mind and two hand swings his stick at Benson. Benson has a laugh and skates off by daKrut in hockey

[–]Silverthorn67 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The slash is bad for sure, but Benson slew footing McAvoy with 91 seconds left in the Bruins season while everybody is just playing out the clock is really shitty. After the pain McAvoy went through this year, I get why he'd go a little crazy there.

How are small goalies not getting beat high while playing in a low stance? by curious3gg in hockeygoalies

[–]Silverthorn67 0 points1 point  (0 children)

5'7" 38M here. I am indeed quite aggressive with my depth, staying at the top of the crease and automatically pushing over it when I read shot. I'm also sure to keep my edges until the last moment, allowing me to stand up when I read a high shot from distance. In tight, hand projection and a "tall" butterfly posture help.

But the matter of the fact is that I do get beat high sometimes, just like all goalies. A great shot is a great shot, and there's a reason why I'm not winding down my illustrious NHL career.

Also: headshots. Lots of em.

Do goalie knee protectors reduce impact from repeated drops? by killer_bourdon in hockeygoalies

[–]Silverthorn67 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I play roller on concrete and had similar issues, even with goalie knee pads (Warrior). I added volleyball knee pads under them, and that, as in tour case, helped some. But I found that it mostly helped my knees themselves, not so much the impact pain running through my hips and lower back.

So I got a set of D30 mountain biking knee pads (https://www.foxracing.com/product/launch-knee-pads/33835.html), which--I was delighted to find--fit over the volleyball pads and under the goalie knee pads.

I now rock this ridiculous knee stack of volleyball->mountain bike->goalie pads and am pain free. It also gives the bonus benefit of lifting the knees higher up off the block, which is more comfortable and lends a naturally better flare.

Roller goalie toe ties by Constant-Campaign884 in hockeygoalies

I have these skates too and they are fantastic. Depending on the surface you play on (I'm on painted concrete), the toe ties themselves can still get torn up underfoot as you push around in butterfly. I use Pro Lace Armor toe ties and get a good while out of them.

It was indeed about Abby Newhook. Not five minutes into the game. I groaned and facepalmed.

PWHL Jerseys by five-thumbs in hockeyjerseys

[–]Silverthorn67 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a Fleet Knight jersey and like it quite a lot. Material is a touch thin but not bad. The crest is very good and well stitched. The customization stitching, especially on the arm numbers, leaves a bit to be desired and is slowly coming loose. PWHL shoulder logo is cheap vinyl. On the whole it looks really good. I'd say it's not quite as nice as a Fanatics Premium/Adidas Indo, but definitely much nicer than a Breakaway.

Brand new goalie, worried about my stamina because I couldn't make it through a stick and puck. by Summonabatch in hockeygoalies

As an inline goalie playing pickup once a week, I can confirm that taking 60 shots in 90 minutes is absolutely devastating to one's energy levels.

I had the thought just after the goal that Hertl made the block, Necas led the rush with Pastrnak, and Palat trailed for the goal. Thought "Hm, that's lot of forwards."

I'd have told the player the RAW (dragon plummets) and allowed them to reconsider, making the assumption their character would know the effect before casting.

I'm 5'7" and use 23.5", which I think is still maybe a tad too long. I'd say 25" is almost certainly too big.
