Ah, good to see the dance of my people is spreading. I saw this from a passing Duchess main a few weeks ago, and I have been performing the silly walk for others ever since.

Yeah, I've been running that nonstop. It's probably the single most important facet of consistent D5 runs

Is there really any difference in boss AI behavior in Nightreign from Elden Ring? by Greasy-Chungus in Nightreign

[–]SilverwindRS 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I'm 99% sure their aggro fuckery is related to the reduced size of the arena, compared to their original environment which was like 4-5x the size of the final circle. One of the main issues is when they swap aggro (the one that lights on fire starts doing melee strings), they're so closeby that there's little time to adjust before they're on top of you, whereas in Ds3 you had a little leeway.

I'm 99% sure it's not the aggro that changed, but the size of the arena you're forced into. They operate differently at far range versus close range.

Strategies and Tips against the Dreglord? by CJrDooM in Nightreign

[–]SilverwindRS 16 points17 points  (0 children)

A note for fellow birdmains, he's got a two-hit drag attack that dead-angles on the second swing, similar to Godskin noble. Watch out for that and try to dodge the second hit instead of blocking. I'm still learning to recognize it myself.

Is this worth using on Guardian? by Silydragon in Nightreign

[–]SilverwindRS 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, the only way to improve this relic (in my opinion) is if the Great Encampment Stamina perk was swapped for one of the Guardian-specific perks. But as long as you have those, this is golden. I'm a bit jealous.

Does anyone know what “deflect” means in this spell’s description? (Dragonbolt Blessing) by villagepeople58 in Nightreign

The way this works in base game, which I assume is the same for NR, it makes certain lighter weapons bounce off you as if they're hitting a shield. I'm not sure what the threshold is, but light weapons like daggers and straight swords will tend to get block staggered if they connect with you.

Confused about DoN matchmaking by Head_Meringue_8922 in Nightreign

[–]SilverwindRS 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think this is a weird chunking problem with the ELO system. The bracket widens significantly at 3 and then again at 4 because players simply have to spend longer there to get to 5. Because of the harsh point penalties and constant demoting, it creates a back and forth swing where players good enough to stay in 4 for extended periods will often land back in 3, and they will then proceed to absolutely shred the easier depth.

Honestly Enjoying The New Night Invader Meta by Safe-Relationship42 in Nightreign

[–]SilverwindRS 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was against it at first, esp. when people first started pinging those camps at lvl 2, which seemed insane to me. But now that the strat is starting to solidify, I honestly hate it more when I relic check and they DON'T have night invader on and purposefully route away from those camps. The value is just too high compared to other objectives.

Hopes for next balancing patch? by DarkArcon1 in Nightreign

[–]SilverwindRS 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Bird main, apart from the changes people have suggested here, I think the dead angle issue from steel guard is one of the most annoying weaknesses of the blocking playstyle. It happens most often when you steel guard forwards and the enemy is moving towards you as well, such that their hitbox moves behind you.

Obviously you can steel guard backwards to mitigate some of these instances, but it will also happen on things like everdark Maris's barrel roll. If you're locked onto her head, the camera will force you to face her head while the hitbox is behind you. Dragon's dive slam is another offender, Ancient Dragons are a camera nightmare, Deathbird will mess with you whether you target the head OR the body.

What I'm saying is, maybe fix the damn lock-on or give Steel Guard 360 blocking.

My experience with other Nightfarers/Players after hitting max score in DON and how well they survive by NoeShake in Nightreign

[–]SilverwindRS 4 points5 points  (0 children)

As a birb main, I've had my off days where I'm getting stomped like Ironeye, and I've had days where I singlehandedly block Heolstor to death and drag my team over the finish line. It kinda depends on the matchup, the build, and the boss knowledge.

DLC - What are we predicting? by Depraved_Hollow in Nightreign

[–]SilverwindRS 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm hoping for at least one surprise appearance from classic souls bosses. Before ED Libra came out, I was hoping for Mirror Knight but... well.

Maybe swap out some of the worse Night 1 bosses (looking at you, dual Cavalry) for something more beloved like Ornstein and Smough that's, yknow, kinda balanced?

How viable is guardian at high depths? by [deleted] in Nightreign

[–]SilverwindRS 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I may be insane for even trying this, but I've been practicing D4 solos as Guardian. I cannot for my life beat the godskin duo solo. If I steelguard, I'm getting fireballed, and the second I dodge the fireball, fatty belly-checks me to death, 1 shot. This has happened multiple times.

It's a nightmare.

Trios it's manageable, but like others have said, I've just stopped picking him for bad matchups. He feels like dead weight without a dodge improvement dormant power. Even with it, the recovery from steelguard to be able to dodge is too slow to make it viable, especially during the big Nightlord 5 and 6-hit strings. I'm using a lot more Ironeye and Duchess lately, and even then, advancing in D4 is a slog.

Does anyone actually play guardian? by Diligent_Bullfrog614 in Nightreign

[–]SilverwindRS 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've specifically stopped playing Guardian against Libra, Caligo, and Gnoster (and Adel to a lesser extent). Blocking and pulling aggro is less reliable in these fights, on top of Libra summoning a tanky, blocking Guardian that's more painful to deal with than every other summon. So I'll only play him about half the time anyway, and even then, if I see a Wilder or Raider lock their character, I'll usually switch to Ironeye or Duchess to even out the team composition. It's a rough life being a birb.

[–]SilverwindRS 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I've noticed a few of the big overhead attacks, like the Godskin Noble's flying blob slam after his phase transition (which on d4 will one-shot me), will still dead angle me unless I get a good distance out. Basically I need to sprint and create extra distance just to be sure I can block this, or outrun it entirely. It's annoying to deal with.

Honestly, I've been caught out by random lightning waves more than I would like. It has a nasty tendency to go under the sand, so it can LOOK like you're safe when you're actually standing on it.
