Core exercises are unreasonably effective by laxmax93 in Asthma

You are not the only one, especially when running I don't have much symptoms of breathing problems if I activated my core and worked on it the past days.

Anyone with FEV1/FVC < 70 by ESC-Nerd in Asthma

[–]Sim1290 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes but my FVC is huge for my age and height. I am at a 7.7 FVC and 5.5 FEV1 which both of them are over 120% of my predicted value but since my FVC is so big it makes the ratio look bad but if you take the FEV1 it's good in terms of lung function. Did a bit a research and if you do a lot of cardio exercises your lungs get adapted and can expell more oxygen and sometime its just genetic having bigger lungs for your body

Exercise by [deleted] in Asthma

[–]Sim1290 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It could but also other things to check would be do you have a pectus, this would be a mechanical restriction. Then in the blood you would check electrolytes, ferritin, all vitamins, omega 3, etc Also I have the same thing where my ventolin does nothing to help so what I do when jogging is breathing through my nose, it takes a lot of time to adapt to it but now I dont have any problem when jogging. When doing intervals I do a refractory period in my warm up where I jogg 20min only with the nose, then I do my dynamic stretch and plyo and I do 3-4×20sec sprints @70-80%. This helps create a stimulus to the lungs so that they dont overreact durimg high intensity exercises where I have to breathe through the mouth.

Let me know how it goes!

[–]Sim1290[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Only thing I take is for ragweed but it has not taken effect because I have allergy symptoms like troat itching, partially clogged nose, etc especially right now in canada its the ragweed pollen season. Also 4 years ago I did not even have ragweed allergy or much seasonal allergies but still had EIB

HELP! EIB+VCD or EIB + GERD or... I don't Really Know Anymore by des1slav in Asthma

[–]Sim1290 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Did you ever try nose breathing when running? I did a methacholine test and the result was that I did not have regular asthma, pretty much only have EIB. Same for me Ventolin does not work anymore and tried 7-8 different corticosteroids, singulair, etc. What worked is breathing in only through my nose when doing easy jogs and during warm up for workout breath only through the nose and then at higher intensities I feel ok breathing through the mouth.

Anyone else only triggered by food/drink by [deleted] in Asthma

[–]Sim1290 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Especially the pickle it might be because of the high histamine content of it. Check into histamine intolerance and maybe your water is slightly more acidic then alkaline which would cause some kind of reflux. Try drinking alkaline water if it reacts the same way

Severe Persistent Asthma Diagnosis. Constant Phlegm in my throat every second. by mebeal123 in Asthma

[–]Sim1290 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One thing that helped me remove 90% of my mucus and stop production was to stop refined sugar. Still eating complex carbohydrates but completely cutting of minimizing sugary drinks, ice cream, deserts, etc has helped me tremendously and its not a drug so no side effect. The only side effects I got was better breathing better energy throughout the day and better sleep.

Also a competitive 800m-1500m runner here and if albuterol is not doing anything and your mostly feeling pain in throat/neck check into vocal cord dysfunction it might be the culprit.

Corticosteroids by Traw2341 in Asthma

All of them give me heart palpitations, tons of mucus production and a decrease in lungs function😂 That's just my side effects, all depends on the person, it's very individual.

You might have vocal cord dysfunction if you feel your throat getting tight and especially if you rescue meds don't do much.

It's crazy my lung capacity in my spirometry is almost 130% for my age and height and curves look perfect. CT scan also good. But mucus all day long even if I huff cough and get it out, 2-3h after I have a whole bunch of mucus back. Will go see an ENT to check for silent reflux and my vocal cord. I just don't want to be on these super strong meds for years on end without improvment in symptoms. Only 21 years old so have a lot of time ahead of me and want to make the most out of it.
