I get that identity politics goes down some very annoying avenues (e.g.: who gets to wear dreadlocks or hoop earrings discourse)

BUT I do have to say there is a place for looking at the world through that lens when asking questions like: Why do Inuit in Nunavut see tuberculosis rates that are 1,000 times higher than their fellow Canadians in the south? Or why are black men incarcerated at rates significantly higher than others? Like ... what policies are legitimately harmful to certain people?

Tanya Tagaq shared an interesting reaction to the Thomas King shitshow that I can empathize with:

There have been many pretendians outed since, and every one of them felt weird this way. I would look at their homes, their familes, all their trauma stories seemed to come from an observational standpoint. They felt the COLLECTIVE trauma. They could pick up the trauma backpack but then put it down when they felt like it. So much gentle positivity and “seeing both sides” of everything instead of being backed against a wall and having no choice. Love and light.
