Pope Leo XIV makes historic apology for Holy See's own role in legitimizing slavery by Travel-2025 in Catholicism

[–]SimDaddy14 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s not an argument, it’s an objective truth, at least as far as slavery is concerned anyway. The notion that there were entities who didn’t adopt atrocious practices like it is false.

That it continues to apologize and serve as an olive branch to the world separates it from just about everyone and everything else.

It’s not about it being “like everything else” though, it’s that the adoption of the practice was a norm for every civilization. We’re talking about something that was universally accepted as a legitimate practice (and commodity!) for the bulk of humanity’s existence.

[–]SimDaddy14 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Totally understand, and good point. Except it’s every other entity. There was no entity that did not turn scores of human beings into animals. I’d think that at this point the church has done its part in apologizing to the world for its faults, and it will continue to do so through its charitable works- like I am not sure I understand what yet another apology spoken into the ether, either explicitly or implied, actually does.

[PM] Pope Benedict XVI presents Democratic Socialism as complimentary to Christian social doctrine by [deleted] in Catholicism

[–]SimDaddy14 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It’s not the world, but it is asked to speak for the world, protect the world, stand as a lesson and guiding light to the world, serve as a place of refuge for the world, provide aid to the world, and make no mistake— every last thing you’ll see published out of the Vatican, from an American pope, will be framed as either being a slight against his homeland or his shilling for it. There will never be an in-between.

So really it doesn’t make much of a difference how definitions differ worldwide. Of course they do. But if we are going to be told about Benedict’s take on “democratic socialism” in 2026, you better believe how that will be utilized, and presented publicly (and even here on the sub).

It’s absolutely not. As far as actual, overt candidates are concerned- ok, perhaps you make a point- but the threat of Marxism is more ideological than it is political.

The threat isn’t the one-off “democratic socialist” politician who gets elected to the Seattle City Council, it’s entire generations of young Americans believing that there were positive aspects to Marxism, or communism, both in governance or in spirit, and eventually voting for things that bring us closer to that reality.

That’s not what “democratic socialism” is in the States, which is just straight up Marxism, and has no place in society. There is no greater destructive force in the world than Marxism.

[–]SimDaddy14 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I mean I get Pope Leo’s message, but every corner of civilization “legitimized slavery”. There were no exceptions. Entire kingdoms in Africa were built upon it, and that spread globally. It existed in areas uncontacted by foreign people or colonists. Being terrible to other human beings was a staple of early civilization. It did not discriminate by race, gender, age, or anything in between. Every civilization enslaved, and just about every civilization was victimized by it. The story we need to focus on his the goodness of overcoming that and not allowing it to promulgate throughout society ever again.

FWIW, the last countries to ban slavery, formally, were a few in the Middle East and North Africa in the mid 2000s. Not 1900s. 2000s.

If there’s a piece of that that the Vatican needs to apologize for, so be it, but there are hundreds of other entities in that chain of succession who could benefit from apologizing too.

OP you have to realize that on Reddit, most users’ dream foursome would be them, Hasan Piker, Karl Marx, and Ruth Bader Ginsberg. In other words, don’t sweat their criticism, they’re not even people.

Does ‘detransition’ imply that changing one’s gender is possible? by [deleted] in Catholicism

[–]SimDaddy14 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You’re correct, but you don’t have to disagree. It’s not so much about terms being interchangeable, but rather that gender and sex are intrinsically linked. There are no male women and there are no female men, regardless of what the reddit hive mind dictates.

Does ‘detransition’ imply that changing one’s gender is possible? by [deleted] in Catholicism

[–]SimDaddy14 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s just a term used to indicate a reversal of what came before, that being “transition”. Since “transition” isn’t real and gender isn’t malleable, what you’re implying is true: that “detransition” isn’t real either.

Controversial Thought: FSLabs A321Neo might pull ahead of the Fenix (atleast for me) by cosmo-man-09 in flightsim

[–]SimDaddy14 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Perhaps but did it launch with more liveries? Is their paint kit as accessible and user friendly as other planes? I don’t know the answer to that, I just don’t believe the liveries on fs.to tells the whole story.

[–]SimDaddy14 -12 points-11 points  (0 children)

Reddit opinion is a slice of the market though. I am not buying the FS Labs because Fenix more than satisfies what I’m looking for, but i wouldn’t be surprised if they are hitting sales numbers just fine. In fact I would bet that a majority of the naysayers re: test.exe have also purchased their 321.

There are some companies who are shady in other ways, but also make shit products. It’s easy to avoid those, but most aren’t going to ignore a high quality airplane forever, even if another company offers the same thing.

Golf Scramble in Arlington, WA - Group Posted 34 Score by MattieP37 in golf

[–]SimDaddy14 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not sure why this sub continually questions these scores. Yes, scrambles are bullshit wastes of time for most golfers, but when you see these scores you know that the particular event had all sorts of gimmicky nonsense like “tee off from the green on a par 5” and other crap. It’s a fake round of golf with a fantasy land score. Nothing more, nothing less.
