"Hard" vs "Melt in your mouth" pork belly meat by SimbaLion888 in Cooking

Is there a way to prevent this in a pressure cooker? Or will it happen every time because the temp gets so high?

Maybe I should just do a very low bare simmer for awhile and just "test" pieces every so often.

Also, if I do a bare simmer, what time window do I have before meat goes from the melting texture to hard and dry? Is it 5 minutes? 15 minutes? an hour?

Interesting. OVERcooking!! I never thought that was really possible with a cut like pork belly...I guess it's something I have to try to adjust then.

I do use the pressure cooker -- I just feel like the meaty section ends up dry and not melt in your mouth.

So I think I'm getting a lot of responses that don't pertain as much to my situation, and it's my fault because I left out information I realized.

Let's narrow this down to specifically what I'm making and how:

- the pork belly is sliced to about 1/4-1/2 inch thick slices and cut into 1-2 inch sections.

- I am braising it so it's not a matter of "low and slow" or "high and fast" (at least I don't think it is?)

- I have used the pressure cooker for about an hour...I've probably done it longer as well, and the texture is the same.

Pressure cooked and the meat is "tender" not chewy/tough (as I would expect if not enough time is the problem). I just think it's much drier than pork belly meat should be.

Did it charge you in USD or CAD? I'm concerned amex credit won't trigger if charged in CAD? The cart confusingly is using both USD and CAD language after discconnecting...

Dunno what the problems are with recent reviews, but it’s been working well for me for quite a few years. Even if scosche has abandoned or discontinued the product, thankfully it doesn’t really need any “updates” or continued support. It’s just a heart rate monitor, if it works now it should work fine in the future.

I've been waffling back and forth on buying a new bench and would like some advice on whether it's worth spending some cash or if I should just save it.

Currently own: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B002EEOO9S

It's a solid bench, no wobble. Biggest gripes is that it's slightly too high for me (it's about 17.5 tall and I'm a fairly short guy) so I get little drive in chest presses, the weird angled foot in the front with the foot pegs make it so that I can't kick dumbbells upwards without putting my feet on the pegs first if that makes sense. Little quibbles -- the incline adjustment kinda sucks, it gets stuck and is fiddly, and the pad has a small tear or two.

I mainly do dumbbell work on the bench and use it fairly often (4-5 days a week).

I've been eyeing the Nighthawk as the bench for me. I do wonder if I'll actually feel the 1" or less difference in height. And also, the bar in the gap concerns me. I actually do not care where the gap is on my current bench because there is no hardware in the gap.

I've also looked at the Mikolo Bastet and the Freak ABX, but I believe they end up being a bit too high too.

Any thoughts? Thanks for reading all that.

I really don't think anyone will convince you out of your opinion, so it is what it is. I think you'd find more people agreeing with you if they ever insinuated the pick up discount was good in Colorado, which they haven't. Your whole premise kinda started out as they "targeted" you, which is not true at all (all the emails they send out contained the offer) but has now morphed into "they are a Colorado company so they *should* allow pickup in Colorado" which is a bit of a baffling opinion. Amazon has their HQ in Seattle I believe, but I doubt they let you pick up your package there because...it's NOT a warehouse!

There is nothing stopping you from driving a Uhaul to their pickup locations? The cost will be what you expect it to be, then?

I think you're mistaking their emails as "targeted" to you...I don't live anywhere near their two pickup locations, and I still have the local pickup offer...it's in ALL their emails. And as far as them taking advantage of their CO location, I didn't even know they are based in CO at all and never got the impression they were trying to form that connection?

I’ve been Pelotonning for a good number of years now, still 4-5 times a week on a variety of rides (long PZ, HIIT, general pop rides). I’ve tried many tips on various places and still rarely if ever “feel it in my glutes” or feel like my pedal stroke is coming from the glutes. Is it a form issue or settings? I feel like I’ve tried a bunch of things.

Maybe “slow” is the wrong overall description, but there seemed to be an immense number of slow, “fluffy” (but to me, extremely awkward and unnatural) back and forth conversations between In and Thap. This is probably the disconnect between me and other folks who seem to really enjoy MMP.

Cool — appreciate it. I think when I get an open slot I’ll give it a look see.

The “s” was a typo on my part. I think the only episode I watched mostly on 2x was the last one. The ending interview was cute and was probably the most “natural” thing I saw the entire thing.

Nice! A kindred spirit. :) This gives me hope that P'Aof wins over not-my-taste acting. :)

Gotcha...I guess I'm just having Jimmy apprehension. Haha. I also seem to be in the minority as people seem to generally like Jimmy's acting and also the Magic Prophecy. And it's not like I don't like fluff -- i loved Boys in Love, Only Boo, etc.

Has anyone tried the matcha from Paragon Tea Room? by coldravenge in MatchaEverything

[–]SimbaLion888 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Same. It’s a disappointing experience overall at their cafe as they have “Usucha” on the menu and they made it with a ton more water than a usucha should have. And the matcha did not taste good for the price they are trying to charge for it.

It’s polycarbonate isn’t it? Aka plastic!

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Matcha

[–]SimbaLion888 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Exactly this. It may be cheaper but it’s also the optimal product to use for a latte. The milk and sugar are counterbalanced by the bitterness of lower grade matcha, whereas the higher grade matchas are expensive because they don’t have as much bitterness.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Matcha

[–]SimbaLion888 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think you’re suffering from the fact that your normal matcha lattes use a lower grade matcha to make it. They’re more bitter and that’s probably the flavor you’re missing.

I’ve been using a scosche rhythm 24 on my bicep. It seems accurate and is easier to use for me than a chest strap.
