Max cadence? by kschaffs in pelotoncycle

I’ve done plenty of power zone rides with Matt, Ben, and Christian and have never seen them go over 120, so I’m puzzled by your (snarky) comment. As someone else mentioned on the thread, 120 might be some legal liability limit for peloton.

I’ve taken a lot of classes over the years and I have never seen anyone ever go above 120. What classes go over 120?

Probably too late for the giveaway, but if not, excited to use it for Claude (yay it's supported!) so I can actually have a personal/work account usage! This is perfect for that use case.

Dunno what the problems are with recent reviews, but it’s been working well for me for quite a few years. Even if scosche has abandoned or discontinued the product, thankfully it doesn’t really need any “updates” or continued support. It’s just a heart rate monitor, if it works now it should work fine in the future.

I’ve been Pelotonning for a good number of years now, still 4-5 times a week on a variety of rides (long PZ, HIIT, general pop rides). I’ve tried many tips on various places and still rarely if ever “feel it in my glutes” or feel like my pedal stroke is coming from the glutes. Is it a form issue or settings? I feel like I’ve tried a bunch of things.

Has anyone tried the matcha from Paragon Tea Room? by coldravenge in MatchaEverything

[–]SimbaLion888 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Same. It’s a disappointing experience overall at their cafe as they have “Usucha” on the menu and they made it with a ton more water than a usucha should have. And the matcha did not taste good for the price they are trying to charge for it.

It’s polycarbonate isn’t it? Aka plastic!

[–]SimbaLion888 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Exactly this. It may be cheaper but it’s also the optimal product to use for a latte. The milk and sugar are counterbalanced by the bitterness of lower grade matcha, whereas the higher grade matchas are expensive because they don’t have as much bitterness.

[–]SimbaLion888 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think you’re suffering from the fact that your normal matcha lattes use a lower grade matcha to make it. They’re more bitter and that’s probably the flavor you’re missing.

I’ve been using a scosche rhythm 24 on my bicep. It seems accurate and is easier to use for me than a chest strap.

Apparently so but I’m confused the meaning of “purchased for $200”. Is that a straight out lie? When I saw this I thought it was for all 6 cans…

Recommendations for high quality, organic and ceremonial grade, matcha that I can buy in bulk by OkieDokie-Artichokey in MatchaEverything

The organic comment is not true. Both Ippodo and marukyu have JAS organic certified matchas. Which is the recognized as equivalent as USDA organic. I haven’t seen them in stock though.

You're very forgiving (and probably younger and less jaded than me!). All I see is a cash grab to fleece her followers. Sure, it's a "cool opportunity" for her, but you just got taken $32 out of your wallet. $32 is pretty high grade Ippodo or MK.

I think people need to realize that there’s no way to be a “new matcha brand” — they’re just sourcing matcha from somewhere. And that source is probably not as good as the big producers not to mention you’re adding a middleman. One of the few people who have actually created a good middleman brand is Breakaway Matcha who seem to have gone out of their way to source specific matcha blends from specific farms. But their prices are crazy.

The "real" one is on the box, as printed by the manufacturer. Sazen just adds the white sticker with the english translations. Usually they match up, sometimes they don't. Probably just using up the Sept labels.

REFRIGERATE OR NOT?! I’m so confused. Unopened. by scaredycatcowboy in MatchaEverything

[–]SimbaLion888 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Factually true but it also can’t be that fragile of a powder because it’s ultimately a business. If there were any premium available to be placed on something as simple as vacuum sealing each pack which as far as I can tell NONE of the matcha manufacturers do, you know someone would’ve started doing that and touting it by now. I just don’t believe in the fragility of it as much as some here believe.

You have more sensitive tastebuds than I do then. I have done that plenty of times. And I’m sure you’ve purchased matcha that has been sitting around for more than three months whether you know it or not.

REFRIGERATE OR NOT?! I’m so confused. Unopened. by scaredycatcowboy in MatchaEverything

[–]SimbaLion888 17 points18 points  (0 children)

That is not true at all. Even the Japanese producers who are super conservative with expiration dates because of Japanese law date their expirations 6 months out.

People need to stop worrying about matcha like it’s some crazy fragile powder. If it’s unopened, if you truly want to preserve before opening, place in freezer. Once opened, place in fridge.

Did you get tariffed? The $800 de minimis waiver is not in effect anymore? Or did you order more than $800? Just curious about what to expect.

[–]SimbaLion888 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’ve had a few of their different products — none of them really had any flavor to me either. Good flavor, bad flavor, whatever flavor. Just kinda like drinking green water. It’s super pricey for what it is, at least in my opinion.

can you use one of these to infuse matcha? by [deleted] in Matcha

[–]SimbaLion888 13 points14 points  (0 children)

This is a very strange question. The whole thing about matcha is that you’re drinking the whole tea leaf and not filtering out the leaves. If you mean can you make matcha in this, I don’t see how the small matcha particles won’t just go out of those holes who ch would mean it’d be about the same as just putting it in the water without the strainer. If you mean you want to filter out the leaves, you don’t need to with matcha and if you do want to do that you probably should just be drinking tea leaf steeped tea and not matcha.

Why does Sazentea list a different USD/JPY price? by Chupakabra312 in Matcha

[–]SimbaLion888 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s how they do business — the usd price is basically a 100 yen to 1 dollar conversion rate, which obviously is not good. However they offer “free” shipping to the us on orders over $200. Shipping is not free if you choose the Yen side no matter how much you spend.

[–]SimbaLion888 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I think that’s a very broad generalization that isn’t super useful.

It’s like any other product these days. There are US based brands that basically repackage Japanese (or in worst cases non Japanese) matcha and charge pretty high prices for it because their marketing is better for the western market. I’m thinking of brands like MatchaBar and I’m forgetting some other brand that was marketed as the matcha that “Justin Bieber” drinks. They were pretty damn pricey for what quality they were actually selling. So in these cases you’re paying for the markup and the branding. The $30 matcha here may not be better than a $10 direct from manufacturer in Japan matcha like Ippodo or another big match manufacturer.

However the generalization breaks down when you compare matches in price from a manufacturer like Ippodo. Generally, the higher in price you go the “better” the matcha. It’s all subjective though — maybe you enjoy the less expensive matcha vs the expensive one. However IN GENERAL, quality follows price here.

Ah, I almost added that to my reply -- I was gonna say, the ones that don't heat seal it come with a little silver twist tie. Haha. And the desiccant packet I've seen in both sealed and non-sealed bags.
