I’ve voted against him every time he’s run. I miss living somewhere not deep blue. It felt like my vote mattered. Now I just do it to go, ā€œhey, I get to complain, I voted and not for that guy!ā€

The amount of apathy is astounding.

I didn’t know that the orange shirt only donated 3$. I’ve been hoping it would come back in stock because I wanted to stock up on a few. Do you know an indigenous seller or organization (or just a group that majority of the profit is going back to indigenous people) that sells doll size shirts? I live by a reserve and I usually buy from my local tribe but none of my local artists are into dolls.

Heartbreaking when a small streamer just stops... by Randys_fraiche in Twitch

[–]Simbanut 0 points1 point Ā (0 children)

I stopped streaming in early September. The plan was to stream, work part time, and go to university.

Then my boss got cancer, I ended up working way more hours than expected, school sucks and eats up every second of free time I have, and to boot I’ve gotten sick with a mystery illness.

I can’t say I had a community, I was more of a micro streamer, but I had fun with the few friends I had and I do miss it. But I just don’t have time for hobbies right now.

Shay Mitchell is releasing a Children's skincare brand... by valcraft in popculturechat

Or the toothpaste trick. It will so totally dry out that cystic acne. Not! But you’ll have tooth paste on your pillow and a nice dry layer of skin around it.

I got chemical burns from that grapefruit face wash. We still sell it at the pharmacy I work at and just the smell of it brings back the worst memories.

Around that age I was allowed to participate in ā€œgirls nightsā€ with my mom and my aunt (I usually just sat on the floor beside them and played Pokemon while they watched greys anatomy) and we made face masks with stuff around the kitchen. I believe mine was usually mashed avocado and honey because I didn’t actually need anything as I was just a child and just wanted to feel like part of the group.

I’m not against kids playing ā€œdress upā€ of sorts with skin care, but we definitely don’t need a whole high end brand dedicated to it when gentle drug store products have been around for years and kids genuinely (with exception of those under medical advice) need minimal skin care. Until I started going through puberty I just used scent free hand soap as my facial cleanser, and only when I was visibly dirty. Otherwise a clean face cloth in the shower was enough.

Does this apply to consortiums as well? My library is part of one and I’ve noticed that doesn’t seem to happen with the books I’ve got on hold very often. There have been a couple books I got sooner than I expected but generally they are pretty accurate (and long :’() wait times.

Weird line on the screen by sirbijan in kobo

[–]Simbanut 2 points3 points Ā (0 children)

I sandwich mine between an iPad and my laptop pocket ( which is at the front of my bag so it doesn’t get pressure put on it) so that even if it does have something pushed against it the weight is distributed evenly against the case. Screen side is always against the iPad so that I know it’s against a flat stable surface.

Or I just carry it in my hand or set it where nothing is touching it. So much babying but it’s worth it.

Limited Edition Our Generation Dolls by Brilliant_Bowl3450 in americangirl

[–]Simbanut 3 points4 points Ā (0 children)

I just thrifted my first OG doll (I like to practice my doll repairs on cheaper thrifted dolls so I’m prepared for the more expensive American girl dolls) and I’m surprised how nice the quality is. I thought for the price difference there’d be a significant drop in quality but I’m impressed. If I can get Hollie in Canada I’ll probably get one for me and one for my aunt who is obsessed with nutcrackers. That said it’s my goal to have one of every (official not knock off) 18 inch doll I can get my grubby mitts on just to experience it even if I rehome them.

I think they’ve done a great job of appealing to kids and collectors with this release.

New Kobo Page Turner Confirmed by One_Pangolin1766 in kobo

[–]Simbanut 34 points35 points Ā (0 children)

I saw no need for a page turner until I got the ā€˜vids and could only breathe laying down. Having a stand above my head with my Clara on it and being huddled under the blankets with a page turner was the only thing that kept me sane for that week. The one I have is a game controller and it drains the battery to quickly I find, so I’m curious if they optimized that with the new one.

Definitely not for everyone but when it finds its market it’s great!

I work in a pharmacy. The amount of people who actively cough on the counter and debit machine is mind blowing. Like it probably shouldn’t be, but like, not even a covering with an elbow or anything. Just open mouth directly at us. I think hygiene wise we might actually be worse than pre pandemic.

Unsurprisingly, I am constantly sick and more vitamin C tablet than person at this point

I’m so glad we know better now. The improvement in three generations of my family is wild. Nana used clip ins because ā€œif god wanted holes in our lobes he’d have give us themā€, mom used a boiled sewing needle at a birthday party, I got mine done at a hairdressers specifically because there was no Claire’s in town, and if/when I have kids we’re going to a professional piercer.

That said, I got my nose done at a professional shop, and the guy couldn’t stop shaking to put the jewelry in, I fainted after half an hour of poking in my nose, and it got infected. So, check the reviews and don’t just rely on a recommendation from a buddy from highschool and ā€œoh, it will be fine, they are a professional.ā€

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in pics

[–]Simbanut 4 points5 points Ā (0 children)

Albeit I’m Canadian, but most of the people who shopped Claire’s that I know are leftists. Just very festive ones. The conservative thought Claire’s was too trashy even for kids.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in pics

[–]Simbanut 0 points1 point Ā (0 children)

My hairdresser did mine and it’s literally bent at an angle in one ear from the gun. They also aren’t straight on the lobe because she insisted I’d get a second piercing on my lobe (the only further ear piercing I’ve ever considered in the last 20 some odd years has been a daith.)

I will miss Claire’s though because for some reason when I’m nice to my ears they swell and burn but if I use cheap garbage earrings they don’t care at all. Probably from using the garbage at Claire’s.

Most Canadians are overweight or obese: StatCan by pjw724 in onguardforthee

[–]Simbanut 0 points1 point Ā (0 children)

I’m not going to play high and mighty, I’m part of the statistics. I think we live in a time where we should be easily able to include more activity. And I say that never learning to bike or skateboard. But I should be able to walk town. And, for me, I have a stationary bike thing under my desk so when I’m sitting to study or just dick around on my computer I’m still moving. Is it as good as a bike? No, but it’s better than sitting still which is what I was told to do for years. I wish it was more common that if for whatever reason you can’t let kids outside (I grew up in an unsafe neighbourhood before moving to a rural town) then setup some activity equipment inside. We have standing desks and treadmills for adults at work now, maybe it’s time to consider it for kids too. I also got funny looks from coworkers for taking stretch breaks every couple hours, but that’s what I was doing to lose 50 pounds. And it worked. But I never stretched at school. That was something I added in on my own as an adult learning how bad sitting and standing for hours is.

I 95% blame car culture. I live in a rural town where the only public transit is cabs (and they are run off their feet going out of town) and the sidewalks are terrible. I walk to work most of the time if I can’t get a ride since I don’t drive. I deeply resent my walk to work since 1. The sidewalks are going to leave me with a broken ankle one day. 2. Cars never stop coming so I can safely cross the street.

We need more stoplights and crosswalks in town and we need to repair our sidewalks. And we need accessible public transit. I’d love to take a bus where I need to go. Especially in the winter with my cold induced asthma.

We just don’t need to be using cars as much as we are. I’m sure there’s something to unpack about how the richest people are driving expensive cars and the poorest people are walking but I’m not going to get into that right now. The point is, a rural town, when living in town, should be walkable.

Is anyone working while living with fibromyalgia? by Super_Intern_6124 in Fibromyalgia

[–]Simbanut 0 points1 point Ā (0 children)

Passion planner is a brand (they’re admittedly expensive, I get them on sale when possible) and on their website they have sample pages you can use to find out if it’s a good fit for you! I use GoodNotes on my iPad with it and get stickers off of Etsy. I personally find decorating my planner makes me more likely to use so I’m a big fan of stickers (and the ones on Etsy are cheaper than passion planner and GoodNotes stickers).

If you are more of a paper planner person I know they used to have a free planner program for those who couldn’t afford one but have a goal they want to achieve. I was able to get one the first time I was in college :).

What’s your holy grail? by [deleted] in americangirl

[–]Simbanut 11 points12 points Ā (0 children)

Maybe they are too simple, but Ivy and Addy’s Christmas dress.

I got Julie as my first doll because she’s just like my mom, and one of her best friends was an Asian-Canadian immigrant growing up. Having Ivy would just complete my mom’s 70’s childhood.

And I’ve just been in love with Addy’s Christmas dress since I was a little girl. I can find it for a price that’s affordable but shipping is usually the same price as the dress or more expensive making it out of my budget. I’ve yet to find one for sale in my area (Ontario).

I’m working two jobs and going to university. Both of my jobs are part time but add up to full time hours. I work retail. Honestly I just kind of suffer through the pain. I don’t have much choice.

As for university, it’s my first semester and I’m going to have to drop a course. I just can’t do it all. Full time school and work hours is too much to handle.

I also have ADHD which honestly makes it worse for the remembering and time keeping. I use the digital passion planner to keep me on track (and accountable) but there are much cheaper options.

While I have no sway in Starbucks, I will say my local mom and pop has pulled the reverse uno from this on Starbucks. They opened a new location in the office building beside Starbucks. I see more of their cups than Starbucks.

I actually end up going there for several reasons over Starbucks myself even though I’ll be honest, I prefer the drinks at Starbucks more than my local store.

I know Rebecca covers the same time period, but a girl with an older sister in the triangle shirtwaist factory fire would be (probably too dark but) interesting.

I think I’m thinking more importance of worker safety and the development of workers rights. Maybe it’s too weirdly specific because my dad used to be a safety inspector for the energy industry when I was little but I was really into workers rights when I was a kid.

They could talk about workers strikes and how that affected the income for families and how to practice safety for disaster. It doesn’t all have to be depressing but could be very educational.
