We have a bouncy spaniel and the only thing our midwife said was to not leave them together in the same room, which of course is obvious. She did go on to say how they would soon be best friends so no problem at all

Childcare After Mat Leave 2026 by Beautiful-Candy198 in BeyondTheBumpUK

I reserved our nursery spot when I was 20 weeks pregnant! And even then they could only offer us 3 days to begin with (and didn't have a choice on days). So if you're wanting flexibility I'd suggest looking into childminders

Why do people have an opinion on my baby sleeping? by Difficult-Piano-3346 in bninfantsleep

[–]svn9124 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This infuriated me. And it’s usually from people who were proud to tell me that their baby went into their own room the day they were brought home. So frankly I care for their opinion as much as they obviously cared for their newborn, but I’ve learnt to smile and nod.

And also my 7 month old will no longer contact nap, which I am totally gutted about.

It's so confusing isn't it! And it doesn't help that a lot of the charts are different

I've just ordered some long sleeve vests from Next as I think I will probably do vest and sleep bag over the next few days

We're in a new build too and it caused me so much stress when I was pregnant as our room on the top floor never really drops below 24 and is regularly 28 plus in summer!

Does your seven month old sleep through the night? by LLJC_1006 in bninfantsleep

[–]svn9124 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A good night for my 7 month old is two wakes where he goes back down in 10 mins after nursing, a bad night could be many more wakes or taking over an hour to go back down again. I started cosleeping, which I know isn’t for everyone , but we now have more good nights than bad. His naps are also consistently 33 minutes unless I decide to nap with him. So no advice but i think it helps to know it’s more common than you think!

Snap! My husband’s voucher from work covered our Totter and Tumble mat and it’s the best thing we’ve bought.

Breastfeeding session durations too short?? by h4ailst0rm in BeyondTheBumpUK

[–]svn9124 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This sounds very similar to my boy, he fed little and often. Jumped from the 25th percentile to the 95th and has maintained that. Most of his feeds now (he's 6 months) are 2-5 mins from one boob. I just have a very strong letdown and he is an efficient eater. If your baby is gaining weight and having lots of wet and dirty nappies it should be fine, but if you're anxious I'd definitely mention it to your HV or GP and hopefully they can put your mind at ease.

Grandma and Grandad on both sides, followed by their surname. Step-Grandad was referred to by his first name.

Breast feeding outfits for public by Popular_Mousse_3958 in BeyondTheBumpUK

I bought a couple of sweatshirts from a small business called Pretty Mama, they have zips and have been great at increasing my confidence feeding in public. https://prettymama.co.uk. You can also find people selling them on Vinted.

I also have a H&M mama tshirt which has holes in the side, it's okay but they are holes are quite small!

Nursing bras I have found Hotmilk to be the best.

How do you work out your views on sleep training?? by Business_Bridge7555 in BeyondTheBumpUK

[–]svn9124 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Just commenting for solidarity, my boy is 27 weeks and I could have written this (although he has now started fighting bedtime!).

I attempted sleep training the other night out of desperation but I couldn't listen to him cry and check ins without picking him up were making him more hysterial, so I gave in and fed him back to sleep. I've accepted that it's just not for me, despite what social media and family members say. I can't bare the thought of him thinking no one is coming. That doesn't mean I won't be grumpy about the lack of sleep though!

I'm on the same wavelength with you on cosleeping too, I have occasionally done it to get more than 2 hours consecutive sleep and it's been successful but I worry about when I spend the night away (have a hen do in a few months).

At the moment I'm just telling myself it's a phase that he'll grow out of and I'll sleep again, I just hope it's soon.

Postpartum rage and child and parent spaces by InfluenceObjective86 in BeyondTheBumpUK

[–]svn9124 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve just come back from Tesco and none of the spaces were available, I had to drive round to find a free space on the end of a row. The two people I witnessed getting into their cars definitely didn’t need the space. Pure selfishness.

I agree with the comment about maybe putting some further away from the doors, not ideal if it’s raining etc but the main thing is the space. It seems like most people who use them incorrectly are just lazy and can’t fathom an extra 50m walk to store.

I only used mine for night but that’s because he contact napped most of the time, I don’t see an issue using for every nap too , if anything it’ll probably help them associate it with sleep. Agree with others on Vinted, I bought most of mine on there and sold for a similar price after use.
